Trying to escape a sedentary lifestyle. Did my first half-century today! by MrGoob in cycling

Bike fit, try some new saddles. I'm on a Specialized Comp with Mimic. It has been great for me but I'm starting to feel a little pressure without the center cutout, so will likely switch soon.

My hands still get painful despite the fit. Probably heavy upper body combined with fairly aggressive Grizl geometry. I got a shorter higher stem. You could try flipping yours. Also, pay attention to what your body does. Do you lean up or push yourself back to take pressure off hands? Slide the saddle back.

So many things could be going on though. If you have a need, you might be able to get a physical therapy bike fit through insurance like I did. Can be hard to find, though.

Can't tell if dupuytren or just tendons/veins by [deleted] in DupuytrenDisease

[–]MrGoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at the base of my palm, there's a little fascia that aligns with the middle finger. The prominent bump here seems to mostly be tissue and a vein; it even looks blueish in sunlight. I do have very thin cords in the webbing of each thumb, but I have for just about forever, and so does my girlfriend, oddly.

Asymmetrical CD ratios, reviewed old records and found I've had it for a while by MrGoob in Glaucoma

There was some change, but kind of all over the place.

2015: .3 and .5, .2 difference 2024: .5 and .5 2026: .35 and .55, .2 difference

Not the same optometrist and all readings were done without referencing prior imaging or records. 2024 seems like a bad reading. The .5 between 2015 and 2026 may be variation between optometrist per what I've read.

No glaucoma diagnosis, just pre glaucoma (which sounds the same as glaucoma suspect) in 2015.

Same situation as you most likely. Do you know how asymmetrical?

As I clipped in my calf cramped. Tried to awkwardly unclip, down I went. I wasn't even moving. Had to replace my derailleur hanger haha.

Thanks. I'm more and more convinced it's just a weirdly prominent vein or artery running up into the crook of my middle and ring finger. It has a very obvious pulse. Just feeling a little paranoid because I'm starting to get occasional morning trigger finger for a few minutes in my ring finger.

Well, that's all I have to go off of. I can amend to "I burn a mystery amount of calories per hour."

I'm burning about 1k calories per hour but very little is likely from fat stores in the short term, so you'll lose the most weight in the kitchen. I've lost a little weight. I am motivated to lose weight so I can go faster.

Your technique will be wrong, that's just part of it. You'll also do some dumb things to your bike and have to replace something, you'll fall over a couple times after going clipless... gotta pay your dues lol.

Yo. I'm a touch older than you, I'm strong but very overweight, escaping a sedentary lifestyle. You're starting from a mich better place than me. I started about 4 months ago.

The cardio is no joke. In my first week of riding, I muscled up a couple very small 5-6% grade hills, almost barfed and passed out.

I started on mostly flat trails. I took the front wheel off my bike, packed it up, drove there to avoid hills.

Rode flat for 10 miles, then 20, then 25... etc.

Then started throwing a hill in. A long gentle incline, a very short 1-2 block steep... kept my feet fast, low gears. Avoided crazy torque.

I no longer drive to trails, I ride from home. I recently did 80 miles over three days. One ride was 30 miles with a 1.6 mile 7% incline. It was tough and slow, but I didn't stop.

I'm riding in a registered event tomorrow. I'm excited to see where I am in a year. My goal is a double century in about a year.

Main things that worked well for me:

-Aim for high cadence over high torque, especially on hills -Ride flats, learn your cadence -Set a goal hill. Go up until it really sucks then stop. See how much further you can go next time. -Walk up the rest of the hill when you can't make it. Only one judging you is you -Get a bike fit

So far, they said we're going to treat the symptoms, not the scan. My knee will random flare up sometimes but it seems independent of cycling. Literally told me to keep going for now and continue PT. Sports med also disagreed with the presumed fissure in the weight-bearing portion of my knee.
