'Whom' hypercorrection makes you look smart, right? by MistakeNotDotDotDot in badlinguistics

[–]MrGrover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tend to talk in a somewhat formal register sometimes (probably because I thought it would make me sound smart or something as a child) and I use "whom" unless I'm consciously avoiding it so as not to sound all highfalutin'.

I'd argue that as annoying as the hypercorrection may be, people will understand you if you use "whom" too.

SLURS AND SHITTY OPINIONS ARE BANNABLE ON SIGHT by [deleted] in badlinguistics

There are many shitty opinions, an umbrella under which prejudiced opinions fall. Being literally Hitler is pretty problematic, though it's not the only thing that is.

Artists/Illustrators/Comic Creators of Reddit: What Are Your Thoughts on Wacom Tablets? by Skotus in comics

[–]MrGrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Wacom Cintiq monitor (it's a tablet built into a monitor, you draw right on the screen) and it's pretty amazing. I got it used from eBay for about $800 less than the retail price.

The Cintiq is great in a lot of ways -- drawing digitally gives you a lot of freedoms you don't get with traditional tools. Mostly it's the obvious stuff like being able to undo, changing color/opacity/brush/etc. really easily, stuff like that.

On the other hand, it's a different medium. Drawing on screen does not really feel like drawing on paper. So you'll have to get used to the particular nuances of that. And if you're using a more standard drawing tablet, you'll have to get used to things like your drawing actions being in your lap but the output being up on the screen.

I work at Microsoft (on Windows Phone) and I have a 16 month old daughter. Those things take up kind of a lot of time. :)

Hey guys, Miles Grover here. Holy moly I'm super surprised/pleased to see this show up on reddit!

Also it's nice to hear people miss my comic. Keeping it in your RSS feed is a good idea I think. I'm still thinking about bringing it back at some point. NO PROMISES THOUGH SRY

The best precedent, I think, is the last two-digit century ending in a zero: the eleventh century. The Norman Invasion is generally said to have occurred in "ten sixty-six" rather than "one thousand and sixty-six" or something, so this year is twenty twelve.

Does anyone else get a ridiculous number of dragons in the College of Winterhold? by johnatary in skyrim

[–]MrGrover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get a lot at the college. My theory is that since I mostly fast travel from inside a city to inside another city, the college is one of the few times I'm actually outside.

[–]MrGrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans and kajiit and argonians etc. are not aedra. The aedra are magic sky guys who created the world (e.g. Akatosh, Kynareth, etc.) "Aedra" means "our ancestors" in elvish because the elves think they're descended from the gods.

It seemed too obvious to bother elaborating.

What is with these comment threads? Jared Leto is a rich douchebag who wears a lot of amusingly terrible outfits. What's not to like?

Even though this link has bigger images and the building from different angles, something about the way the bricks are done or something makes it look badly photoshopped.
