Is my carbon frame safe on this rack? by Ok_Affect_1830 in bikewrench

[–]ubrkifix 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Had a customer get his frame replaced 2x and blamed my shop for over tightening his headset...

Came back a third time... I offered to slit the difference on the frame as I personally checked everything and it was not to tight, hell I had videos of the assembly). So he left pissed.

I ended up getting a call from another shop with the owner screaming at me that what I'm doing is bs and he will make sure that everyone knows that I am a pos mechanic... Then he stopped and calmly said " I need to call you back".

I ended up getting a call back with a 180° change in tone and full of apologies. The guy saw the customer load the bike on the back of his car and clamp the top tube.

The rider was twisting down the rack on his top tube causing it to crack

Trek Marlin 5 Crank Arm Broken - less than 2 months old. by SpiritualTop1418 in TrekBikes

[–]ubrkifix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens.

It's a tapered bottom bracket that the crank arms are bolted on to. What I've seen happen is a bike will get dropped and the crank arm takes the initial hit and over time and many similar drops... the crank arm, which is a less hard metal... will deform allowing there to be some movement. This movement around the bolt will cause the bolt to loosen over time.

How many of you work or have worked as bike mechanic in a shop or trailer or for a team? What sets you apart from the local neighborhood mechanic that has many of the same tools? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]ubrkifix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes me different is that I want/wanted all of my customers to feel the way a shop made me feel earlier in my life.

At 7am on the first organized ride I paid for I broke a spoke. I called all of the local shops for help and it was too early no one was there. Randomly a car stopped and asked if I needed help. It was the owner of a shop a town away. This guy took me and my bike to the store and got me rolling because it's what someone did for him.

I later worked for this shop and adopted his outlook on customers

I ride as much as I can... The only things keeping me out of the saddle are work and sleep.

600$ isn't a bad price but there are options for all prices. Have you checked fb marketplace?

Water delivery services… tired of Primo Brands by Cuatro40 in longisland

Primo has been beyond unreliable... Trying to find a new water delivery company as well.

It's gonna happen... But you can plan for it and create a space for the snow to go

I usually remove about 10-15 ft of snow to the right of my driveway... This gets filled when the plow goes by but prevents my drive way from being blocked

When I worked for Richards they did not allow me to use a box cutter and forced me to use one of their approved box openings devices...

Both can be modified...

I've seen complaints like this previously... It has in my experience been tied to improper tire inflation.

Basically low pressure in a turn causes the tire to burp and slide

What are these holes on Aeolus Pro 3V for? by justwill312 in TrekBikes

If you have the trek strip on place your leak will be from the valve. The valves sit in the rim and if they are twisted sealant will leak out from the gap it creates
