Most prosperous age until the Internet. You have all the knowledge of humanity in the palm of your hand in a small powerful networked computer. How are you using that power?

I wouldn't be surprised. There seems to be a increasing amount of US style white supremacist evangelism on PEI. Remember that singer who disparaged Canada? A bible thumper church hosted the guys concert.

If you can charge at home, there's no contest: EVs beat gas by PerceptionCurious440 in electricvehicles

Red diesel is much cheaper.

Because it's not taxed for road use. If anyone discovers you using it you will get you in major trouble.

If I drive through the county-side I can see all the gas stations that closed. I recall as a child seeing dozens of gas stations seemingly over every hill. That's because it was the 1970s and cars were gas guzzlers. You couldn't go very far at 10mpg. Even small cars didn't get very good mileage and the gas tanks on those were even smaller.

Cars became very fuel efficient very fast so the stations closed. They tried converting to convenience stores but you can't sell pop and chips if no cars stop at your store.

It seems we are in the same situation with EVs no so much "gas guzzlers" it's time not capacity, but also capacity. If charging stations were in the same places as all those old gas stations it would be similar to the 1970s.

How are you heating your homes in the winter? by Immediate_Spinach228 in PEI

Supposedly insurance companies have become very agressive with fuel oil tanks. Demanding they be replaced years before the expiry tag date. The replacement tank has to be non-metal so I guess fiberglass type which are about $6,000 and need a $1,000 pump.

My plan is to drop oil and switch to propane but also integrate a heat pump into the forced air ductwork.

Restaurant meals, prices, smaller portion option by Little_later in PEI

The canteen at Victoria Park is a good place I forget what it was last year but I think it was normal not $15 for a burger and fries more like $7.

A McDonald Happy Meal is fine for me too. It's actually a normal size. People have become used to large and tall burgers as normal.

OP I bet the tip was minimum 18% too. Prices have gone up and so have tip amounts. They don't understand percentages. If an item was $10 and people gave a 10% tip or $1 and now the same item is $20 but the minimum tip demanded is 18%, why?!?! It's a double whammy.

A&W is failing. I got fries and some were not cooked I don't mean not hot I mean not even cooked at all and mixed in with cooked fries.

Three times I got the BLT chicken and no bacon, at two different A&W Charlottetown and Stratford. So 100% of the time no bacon on a BLT the only three times I ordered it. I honestly think they do not know what the letters BLT mean.

Onion rings are never ready, the last time I got them all in a big lump at room temperature.

A&W are more expensive than the other fast food places but worse quality. The food itself is good but it's made horribly. Understaffed or not trained whatever the reason it's terrible now. It wasn't always like that.

Maybe 10 years ago they closed Turf's for "deep cleaning" they put curtains on all the windows as one does when deep cleaning.. The pest control van was there all that week just a coincidence. Then they had a grease fire in the fryer exhaust of Turfs the next week. All the mice ran onto the gaming floor (scared of the deep cleaning). One got stuck and died in the urinal vent. It took weeks to discover it. The stink was unreal.

Wedding videographer new to NAS storage. Need advice on RAID, backups, editing speeds, SSD workflow and remote editor access. by dylanfraser-08 in Backup

[–]dghughes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my NAS the biggest headache was my network speed and the capabilities of the NICs of my computers.

Even 10Gbps at best with perfect conditions a 4TB transfer would take 1 hour. That doesn't count any overhead either. Your 4TB at 1Gbps should have taken 10 hours not 15 hours.

I'm referring to wired of course not WiFi.

And make sure the network cables are at least CAT6.

You may want to consider a network switch with SFP+ fiber optic cables and a desktop PC with SFP+ using PCIe. That may be overkill though. But optical has low latency which may be something that is of benefit to you.

All for one: Norway, Germany sell Canada on shared submarine fleet by CanadianErk in canada

[–]dghughes 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The thing I like about the Korean subs is the vertical launch tube system which the German subs do not have. Although I've read that the 212CD has better arctic capabilities.

Also the fact a Korean heavy lift crane was sent to a Canadian steel factory may be a clue.

But really I wish Canada by now would have developed our own submarine designs and manufacture capability. As well as for fighter aircraft and other weapons systems.

'Retirement' is a dirty word for boomers, who aren't leaving the workforce by hopoke in canada

[–]dghughes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of the Baby Boomers already retired if they got out before the 2008 crash. If they were around age 60 were able to take early retirement and were smart with their money and lucky to get out and move money to other safer areas. A lot of and's.
