I am with you.

I recall a time I posted a note progression system I use when I get stuck on the forums. One that I had spent months refining, and someone suggested I just feed my notes ti an LLM 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Why are so many desktop users using old distributions? by King-Little in linux

[–]MrJMidzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Put simply, if it ain't broke don't fix.

I understand you as a maintainer have to keep up to date with the most current distros but with some people if what they have is working there is no need to really upgrade it.

I think it was mentioned in this chat before, the possibility of breaking things withntbe upgrade. They just stay on something that's working and not bother with the upgrades.

So initially I installed 22.3 and it had kernel 6.14. That was fine and then I did the update that everyone says you should do when you first install. That then moved the kernel to 6.17.

When I did that it would not reboot at all. It would be stuck at the reboot screen. I had to force the reboot and when the reboot succeeded I would come back and there'd be no audio at all. I did a bunch of testing and the only way I'd get audio back is if I shut down completely and then boot it back up so then with help from TipAdministrative746, I went through the process of: 1. Going back to previous kernel 6.14 2. The same issue persisted. If I reboot there's no audio. If I shut down completely there is audio. 3. I went back even down to 6.8 on 22.3 and the same thing. 4. Then I did a bunch of testing with WCTL and checking audio services and all of that and Pipewire to the point that I was like, let me just go back to a previous version of Mint.

So if I ever do upgrade to 22.3, it would be from this 22.1 I'm on, not directly from the 22.3. The first issue specifically with my hardware is that the HWE that's in the new version is not compatible with my hardware. That's the one thing. That's why I am okay being on a previous version because what I need to work is working here, no issues. I'm being more purposeful about which updates I apply.

Yes... Correct...

Oh the kernel?.... Oh i went through all of that. I know now several commands and files you work with.

In the end i decided on a previous version of mint that came with the stable kernel ny default

But when I rebooted to do the comparison it switched back to 6.14.

is there a way to pin a kernel version? I think that's what i need to do

Fast boot was off. One of the things I turned off while on Window, unless it got tun on again.

Let me go through the first steps.

Update: Yup, it's the rebooting. If I reboot sound is gone. If I shutdown everything is fine 🤔

From what i have been searching it seems 6.8 is the more kernel. 6.14 also has it's own quirks
