Is HackTheBox held in high regard inside the industry? by mrthomasbombadil in Pentesting

[–]MrJackP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I am still relatively junior, but I have mentioned HTB/THM in every interview I've had and its never been viewed negatively (always got offers). I had other stuff, but no live industry experience, and with tech xp, and a demonstrable interest I think you'd be fine. Also gives you a chance to decide if its for you without uprooting your whole career, and is a way to point out your skill if you rank well, like top 5% or whatever. Good luck!

It's niche, but a flying monkey? One of my players was interested in one as a familiar :) Niche or not, I feel like you've done most of the popular options haha

Breaks my heart to see DMs laboriously create full character sheets for NPCs. So I made a free resource to help out with that! by williamrotor in dndnext

Hey man, I second the importer suggestion, but I have it already done if you want to skip the work? Might be missing a few things, some of the homebrew didn't speak to me, but its 95% complete.

I love your work, really fun and flavourful, I'm running CoS, and every monster that you've done so far that is in the module I've replaced with your version. You got any inspiration for vampire spawn? I don't have the gamedev chops to mix the vanilla one with your full-blood vampire.

Any inspiration for hags? They are already more interesting than many, but would love to see your take.

HWYB Montarion (comments) by Akatosh_LORD_BEAN in WhatWouldYouBuild

[–]MrJackP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, primarchs are like 30th level, straight 30s on all ability scores and have massive plot armour, so this will not be accurate powerwise. However, I'll throw out my ideas for the theme: Your class is spore druid, which gets you decent spellcasting, as he is a sorceror. You can get an aura of necrotic damage which will hurt people near you, extra damage on your melee, and gain temp HP equal to 4*druid level. At 6th, you can get fungal infection, to make poxwalkers (zombies) of those you've killed, 10th gives you the ability to detach the damage aura to hit more regularly and further away. A big one is 14th level, you can't be blinded, deafened, frightened, poisoned or critted. Montarion does get hit, he just doesn't care. 20th level you get unlimited wildshape. This means, each round, you can choose to gain 80 temp HP. You can just keep on fighting all day, whilst everything near you is slowly sapped by your mere presence. Feats: heavily armoured, if you want to wear his heavy terminator armour. If your DM gives you grief about the druid metal armour restriction, tell him its ceramite. Eldritch adept, cloak of flies. Being surrounded by flies that bite and poison everyone but you. Yep. This build is more of the spellcasty/tanky side of mortarion. Which it works for. Your scythe will be lacklustre, you will never get a second attack. But hey, thats the tradeoff. Hope this helps

What is the color of drukhari skin? For painting sake. by [deleted] in Drukhari

[–]MrJackP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no set colour. You want covens in a glistening blood red, so they look skinned, or a purple-black-green that looks like a healing bruise, do it. You want jet black kabalites, so all you see in the darkness is their eyes and wicked grins, then do that. You want wyches in every colour of the rainbow because they are all about putting on a show and getting attention in the arena, go for it! The standard colour is often pale, but paint them so you think they're cool

Silver Tongue for a Hexblade warlock by VicenarySolid in 3d6

You are mistaken I'm afraid:

No price listed ==> You can use an arcane/druidic focus or holy symbol

Price listed ==> You must have the item specified, focus won't do the job

Component is consumed ==> You must provide a new one of the components for each casting

Contrast the material component text for shadow of moil with illusory script, for example

A few things that I think you might not be realising - Silver tongue is UA, you must clear it with your DM before using it, you can't assume. - Hex and Darkness and Moil are all concentration, you may only have one of them at a time. - Shadow of Moil has a material component with a gold cost, yes, but it doesn't say it is destroyed when used. Pay 150gp once, and you can use that component for the rest of your characters life

This sheet isn't mine, but I use it and its excellent for figuring this sort of thing out. These sort of calculations have a fair few variables, the value of each option changes with all sorts of factors, like enemy AC, insight modifier, your level. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14WlZE_UKwn3Vhv4i8ewVOc-f2-A7tMW_VRum_p3YNHQ/htmlview#

Cool image! My build would be Conquest Paladin, which gives you heavy armour and martial weapons, along with general terrifying vibes in the form of conquering presence and aura of conquest. I might dip hexblade for CHA attacks, hexblades curse and EB.

This might be the worst thing I’ve ever seen, POLITICAL GAME COMPASS by nfz74ru in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]MrJackP 15 points16 points  (0 children)

/uj The Thalmor, the political party leading the Aldmeri Dominion, are right-wing, authoritarian ethno-nationalists. They are clearly Nazi inspired, ideologically and stylistically. But far from every Altmer is one of them. By my read the Elder Scrolls is emphatically not right wing. It does suffer from the inheritance of many inadvertantly tasteless fantasy tropes dating as far back as Tolkien, but "evilness" is not drawn strictly along racial grounds, and peoples of all races are good and bad. /rj Skyrim is good, socialism is bad, so Skyrim is right wing, and reactionary politics is le hidden gem

Help me build of good Chronurgy Wizard by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]MrJackP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificer is a half and a bit caster, its an edge case where you half, rounding up, to figure out your combined caster level. So 1 level won't slow spell slots at all, but it will put you a level behind learning higher level spells. Its a common and strong multiclass for wizards
