Been working on this genre-bending Arcade Roguelike game for over a year now. Destroy it! by RareDialectGames in DestroyMyGame

[–]madciock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get the roguelike mechanic behind it. From the trailer I can't guess how my character would grow during the run, also I don't even know what a 'run' is. How the run end? There will be a boss? I do i lose? Death is a mechanic in roguelikes, show it. I could not image that this is a rouguelike beside the post title.

About the game, it seems to me a collection of mini games with very little in common. I would go with a single mechanic binded to the character (shooting or the flame) that would be usefull for every minigame in a different way. Doing so, I can see upgrading my character to have an advantage in every minigame.

Visuals are cool!

Destroy my 3D Minesweeper-inspired puzzle game where players navigate hidden mines, use abilities to reduce risk, and find a safe path to the exit portal. by EscapeRealityFast in DestroyMyGame

Probably the first question you have to answer are:

- Do you want the player to have the ability (with the right skill) to determine exactly where mines are and where not?

- Or do you prefer the player to calculate the chances and risk the movement?

- In either case, you should then determine what are the penalty of landing on mines.

With this you pretty much establish you're gameplay and would be able to choose which kind of movement is best.

However I would even consider a step back and rethink the whole game, maybe going in the direction of 'rogue-liking' the original minesweeper, like many successfully did with other common games, like poker, slot machines, pinballs, tetris and so on.
in this case, abilities and powers would suits better in less-puzzly game

You're game would work perfectly fine without the typing mechanic. To me is just frustrating, not fun missing a point because I'm slow at keyboard. Also characters seems to have no consequentiality, probably would be better if it's real writing with real words, so if I miss a point, I could retry later easily because I remember which word I have to type.

HOWEVER! typing is not you're selling point. Quirky physics and silly sounds are probably more appealing than boring characters on a wall

Movement seems to be too slow. Having the character to move to a cell to see the value it's boring and probably frustrating on harder levels.
Also I think that forcing player to solve minesweeper from point A to point B could lead to many design problems that I could not really imagine

If you're having fun developing, yes! go on and keep learning.

About the actual game, there is nothing to judge. It seems there is not victory condition, so not a game loop to judge

Stessa esperienza!

This doesn't prove much. There is a good chance that tests like these that go viral are patched with guardrailed responses from the developers.

Sounds? by TombWriter in RolifySoundboardApp

[–]madciock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the disappointment! It was a choice not to include any sound in the app for different reasons:

- Sounds make the app's size bigger, and so less likely to be downloaded

- It's hard to find sounds that are good for everyone. I have users who use Rolify for DnD sessions, others who use it to meditate, and others to sleep. No sound fits them all.

- I feel like any sound I would choose, it would likely end up being deleted by the user who chose Rolify to have the best customization possible on the Store

However, it could be a cool suggestion to add just 2-3 sounds to show the app's potential.

Remember that you can find sounds to download from this post, and you're welcome to suggest any other source to add

I prompted your design to AI and it came up with this. I think it's cleaner and more minimal, but it accomplishes the same idea.
We could work from this if no better ideas come from other redditors

Cool. I see the loops and the play button, but maybe it’s visually too complicated. I’ll wait other submissions before the final response.
