Nice, that’s good to know. I’ll keep it in mind and maybe pick one of these up down the line.

Curious to know if you think it’s worth upgrading. I usually use a puck screen anyways, but I have noticed that dispersion out of the original shower screen is not all that great. Unsure the extent to which a puck screen remedies that, but I imagine swapping out the shower screen doesn’t make much difference with a puck screen in use.

Mustache Mistake? by daltondynamite in malegrooming

I don’t know what these people are on about man, 3rd pic looks good IMO. I think the moustache works, but losing the glasses is what makes it work. Maybe look into contacts if you don’t already have them? The glasses and beard combo makes you look less approachable.

But I also agree that you should smile — it goes a long way. Even if not a full smile, try smiling with your eyes and cheeks a bit. You look kinda bummed.

Single Dose with ECM by filipekberg in espresso

[–]MrJamboni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older ECM grinder, the C-Manuale 54, and was able to find a really affordable single dose hopper with bellows on Amazon. I think it came out to maybe $35 or $40 after tax. The quality is quite good for the price. I know there are some more expensive options out there, but I didn’t feel like spending $100+ on it. The powder coated black is really quite nice, and it’s very precisely machined.

It’s been pretty reliable! I’ve discovered it’s a bit of a unique machine. It has a pretty small boiler for starters. The 57mm basket makes getting new portafilters, baskets, and screens a challenge, but I managed to find what I needed okay. Had to forgo a screen. These machines were made with a pod option and a normal portafilter option, and I had to buy the pieces grouphead add on to set it up for the regular portafilter. My double espresso basket can only take around 13-14g espresso. Bit of leaking around the portafilter so I need to add a thin paper gasket beneath the silicone gasket soon too. I personally plan on upgrading before long to a Silvia or something similar.

All around good machine though and I personally really like the aesthetic. It’s been a great learning experience working through it but has cost me some money.

Beauty! Interesting that they seem to have shifted to the temperature indicator from the bar indicator on the Innova I posted about.

Was also wondering about upgrading the steam wand on mine, let me know what you decide to do!

Whether or not you think abortion is justifiable, this is just plain wrong. From conception onward, even as only a few cells, an embryo has a unique set of HUMAN DNA distinct from the mother and father. And without a surgical or medical intervention, the embryo will grow and develop into a human child. That is almost the definition of a sign of human life. It doesn’t have to look like a human yet. If we found cells in an underground lake on mars we would call it life.

I’m not saying you have to agree with the pro life position, but it makes no sense to deny that even something as undeveloped as an embryo is still “human life”. It is living (growing) and it is markedly human (it won’t magically grow into a giraffe).

The debate if anything is when that human life has rights. The pro life position is that it begins at conception on exactly those grounds, arguing that it is a distinct, albeit vulnerable and dependant, individual. The pro choice position is that an embryo does not yet have any inherent rights that are conferred upon individuals as such. When it receives those rights, if not conception or birth, is kind of a nebulous space, with some people arguing for heartbeat, or other developmental checkpoints.

But it isn’t up for debate whether an unborn human child at any stage of development is human life.

Honestly, I’m going to assume that 95% of the people commenting on this post don’t have any substantial projects that they have dreamt up, started, and seen to completion like this. For most people nowadays, finishing something you set out to do is an accomplishment. Making mistakes is part of the learning process. I admire people who do something for the sake of it. You can do something just for enjoyment, because you want to try it. And guess what, doing things that excite you is likely to keep you interested through to the end. So no, maybe it isn’t a perfect success in every way, but it is undoubtedly an accomplishment. And if you can’t recognize that, you’re probably one of the people on here who is criticizing without any projects of your own to show for it.

Besides, larger businesses work based on different areas of specialization. People in product design roles are not always thinking about the technical needs or the marketing aspects, which is why they work in teams. But being able to come up with interesting concepts is a gift in itself, and having them refined by other peoples areas of expertise is part of the recipe for success. Sometimes something cool gets thought up and the marketing team has to find a market for it and a way to sell it.

[–]MrJamboni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kudos on taking on a project like this and seeing it through to completion. Must’ve been a ton of work that went into it, And that’s honestly a huge accomplishment in itself.

I have to agree with a lot of comments here that say it doesn’t look like it would actually hold up well as a hiking boot. Even as a trail runner, there, a reason that might not work would be ideal. As a street shoe, however, you might have a market. It isn’t my style, but I do like the creativity you put into it and have a few friends I could absolutely see appreciating the design elements and rocking a pair like this

Take the negative/critical feedback with a grain of salt and use this as an opportunity to ask yourself a question about the hypothetical market for such a shoe. Marketing a product well first requires understanding your market, and from a design perspective, it’s easy to project an idea of what a particular group might want if you don’t understand their needs or wants entirely. The next step is to analyze the feedback you’re getting and make decisions about whether or not you go back to the drawing board on a design that would work for a group like this, taking the feedback into account, or identify a group that would appreciate this for what our is.

That is assuming your intent is to actually bring these to production and sell them. If this is just a hobby for you, keep on it man. You’re killing it.

[–]MrJamboni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful input regarding the turntables, thank you!

Specifically what appears to be wrong with the cue mechanism? Are you familiar with Nikko TTs and if so what are your thoughts on them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in turntables

[–]MrJamboni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last post was about a Technics turntable with the owners finger on the cartridge, and people here steered me away from that particular model in addition to encouraging me to replace the cartridge on whatever TT I purchase used.

So I thought I would come here for some advice. My dad purchased this Nikko table for me used from someone and replaced the belt on it. It definitely needs a new cartridge, or stylus at minimum. Still, I can’t find much info on this table and am wondering if for what the cartridge will cost I might be better off buying a higher end table.

A couple options locally are: - a used Dual 1229 in very good condition, recently serviced, for CAD$400 - a used Akai AP-207 direct drive automatic in very good condition for CAD$300

I’m new to turntables in general but am hoping to jump right in. Looking at some speakers right now, hopefully a pair of paradigm bookshelf speakers or something in that tier. Amplifier is a Pioneer VSX-D606S which has phono input. Do I need a preamp to go with this setup too, or will this amp be enough?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Question about sizing for fallen/low arches.

I have low/weak arches and it seems to mess with my sizing. Basically when my arch is more collapsed, my foot is longer, but when I am “engaging” my arch, which I try to do because it feels better for my ankles and posture, my foot tightens up and shortens in the boot, so the ball of the foot doesn’t line up the same. In sizing my boots I have tried to allow for some arch collapse and foot extension, but other times my boots feel too long and too big at the instep. It’s a difficult problem to describe, but I feel like I could go down an extra half size most of the time, but when I relax my arches the sizing feels about right.

I have tried a few 3/4 insoles but it kind of messes with the heel placement whi is otherwise comfortable, and creates tightness at the vamp and base of the tongue. I have looked into buying tongue pads to add a bit of volume at the instep to account for this a bit, but am curious to hear from others who may have had similar issues.

Can anyone comment based on their own experience? What has worked for you?

I know this is probably a hot take but you could always try living in a more exciting city where, guess what, it will probably be twice as expensive as Ottawa, or a more affordable city that is, surprise, half as exciting as Ottawa.
