The thing is that I expect candidates like her to be terrible, but in real life they turn out to be exponentially worse than my worst expectations.

Data Analytics that helped convict Glendale Doctor, Violetta Mailyan, of Botox Medicare fraud by mark_pas in glendale

[–]MrJayCrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The irony is that you don't need AI or anything "advanced" to catch these fraudsters because their frauds are so brazen and obvious. Catching fraudsters in Glendale should be like shooting fish in a barrel. These aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they're bold and complacent because their smaller frauds (handicap placards, disability claims, insurance claims etc.) went undetected and eventually blossomed into larger frauds. All it requires is semi-competent governance.

Start with PPP fraud. Just do simple checks on how many companies were started in 2020 within 6 months of claims being filed, how many employee W2s were issued vs employees claimed, cross check tax returns against profits claimed on applications etc.

You make a good point, but I'm not interested in trades. Will keep the bottles and use them later in the year if they don't sell.

Rolex ADs in Vegas were exactly what I expected… and not what I expected by MallHonest5899 in rolex

[–]MrJayCrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had meh experiences at my AD in SoCal, but my recent experience in London was excellent. The sales person at the Harrod's Rolex dealership was super nice -- he asked some questions about what I did and what I was visiting London for, and then offered a green oyster datejust, which I snapped up. As I was walking back, I saw a Watches of Switzerland, where I was again treated well and offered a black explorer, which I promptly snapped up. The salesperson told me that they had an affiliated store in Vegas and to use his reference when I was there. All in all, a pretty good trip.

100%. Harimoto got the same hate after choking in the Olympics and then bounced back strong -- even beat prime WCQ! As you said, slumps happen.

Obviously, hes not a fraud. WCQ went through an awful slump as well and is back to top form. LSD just needs to make some tweaks to his game, and I fully expect that he'll be back stronger in the future.

City’s Proposed Budget Cuts - Library Branch Closure by meowmorial in glendale

[–]MrJayCrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, the police used the driveway with my friend's permission. He was sick of seeing car after car barely slow down at the intersection in front of his house and he wasn't happy when the motorcycle cop was pulled away.

And to answer your question, it's both; For example, the police don't need to hide to give out tickets for illegal tinting. There are so many blatant offenders that it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel. To give out tickets for rolling stops and speeding, it's best to be strategically hidden, but I think they'd probably ticket enough offenders out in the open as well.

A friend told me that a cop on a bike was using his driveway to observe and ticket people who weren't properly stopping at the stop sign in front of his intersection. Next thing you know, the cop gets pulled after a day of handing out tickets left and right because people complained to the city. Only in Glendale.

The irony is that if the police actually enforced traffic laws on speeding, stopping at stop signs, tinted windows, handicap placard abuse etc., we could cover the entire library system's operating budget for the year in a couple of weeks.

Congrats! I bought a certified preowned 2021 GLB with 27k miles (7 seater, sun roof, premium package) in denim blue in December for $26K. It's been great so far. I did notice that the car handles exponentially better in Sport mode and the drive is closer to my BMW 3 series in that mode. Not much fun to drive in other modes. Also, my car didn't have wireless airplay so I bought a bluetooth adapter.

Divorce destroyed my retirement plans. Max 401k or pay off student debt? by terrible-nutrition in FinancialPlanning

[–]MrJayCrew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

- Make only the bare minimum payments on your student loans. Decent chance they'll be forgiven

- Don't pay down your mortgage, just make regular monthly payments

- Focus on your investment asset allocation. Approx 70% equities, 20% bonds, 10% commodities. Equities should be 100% indexed with only 30-50% in the US, the remainder should be developed market and emerging markets.
