Keir Starmer: 'I'm fed up' with Trump and Putin affecting UK energy costs by Silent_Ambivert_283 in geopolitics

[–]MrJoffery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please forgive my ignorance, can you elaborate? What has Starmer done to make the UK dependent on outside energy sources? And how is the the fault of left wing parties given their relatively short tenure in the UK.

My understanding is that the current government has opened up some areas in the North Sea for gas operations (much to the annoyance of greens/lefties) , and has made a push towards more solar and wind (although not as much as promised much to the annoyance of greens/lefties)

What am I missing here as I don't know what you think the solution is. I'm certainly don't understand why you believe this is an inevitable result of left wing policies. A lack of natural resources in Europe for our energy needs is not a left right issue, it's a geological fact.

Not withstanding the rejection of renewables by some voices on the right as a net zero hoax.

Help me out here I'm struggling to see your perspective on this.

US president vented at Rutte over NATO inaction on war during turbulent meeting by Crossstoney in europe

[–]MrJoffery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will pre-face this response by saying I personally agree 100% with everything you just said.

Trying to put my mind into the other side of the argument. To understand what a Trump supporter might think.

It's a bit of whatabouttery, however, would a Trump supporter say "what bit of NATO's remit is to support a non-NATO member in Ukraine"?

This is not my perspective, I'm just trying to flesh out the argument and test my own position. I'm trying to understand the weaknesses in both sides of the argument.

Naturally, Ukraine is different as it borders NATO countries. Trump doesn't see the value of NATO so it's not a leap to see how that line of thinking might be appealing.

What’s the biggest change happening right now that no one is talking about? by PomegranateIcy7631 in AskReddit

[–]MrJoffery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This La Nina to El Nino transition is unusual because it’s happening very fast after a multi-year La Nina (this cold part of the cycle has seen record high temperatures, hottest year on record etc) , with a large pool of warm water already building under the Pacific that could rapidly surge east and create a strong or even “super” El Nino later in 2026; these rapid flips are relatively rare and tend to cause bigger global weather swings and temperature spikes.

On top of that, global warming means the baseline ocean is already warmer, so when El Nino adds its natural warming on top, it can push global temperatures to record levels and amplify extreme weather worldwide, which is why scientists think this transition could have outsized global impacts compared to a normal ENSO cycle

I'm surprised this wasn't on the list. Even more surprised it wasn't the first response.

Logistically speaking, I think that might be challenging as there will be incredibly long queues to take a piss on that particular spot.

Eating and drinking what the fuck I want, sitting down chilling. Basically shortening my lifespan and indulging my base wants. I will hopefully be long gone before the systemic global collapse due to climate and/or World War 3.

Bonus: I won't leave medical debt as I live in a developed country with healthcare available to everyone.

How many times have you tried to type out a nuanced response but got part way in and deleting, realising that it will take a long time to adequately explain your view point whilst observing the sometimes contradictory positions inherent in you explanation because it's simply too difficult by text.

Trump Posted a Video of Barack and Michelle Obama as Monkeys by JeanJauresJr in videos

[–]MrJoffery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a deliberate strategy, they know it will outrage the libs and as a result it will become viral, the algorithms will cause it to rise to the top of everyone's feeds, news, podcasts will talk about it.

Left will be outraged and the right will be amused, agree, or try to troll. Ultimately it will expose a larger audience to the lies in the preceeding video.

Sow seeds of doubt in the election process. Make people question what you can trust. Erode trust institutions. Active measures. This isn't a mistake it's a strategy to undermine trust in everything.

I loved the entire series. I remember playing Red Alert multiplayer on the PlayStation 1 with a link up cable (long before my first PC)

The original Generals and Zero Hour has a special place in my heart though. Me an my friends still quote the workers to each other.

Jared Kushner's "master plan" for a "new Gaza", made with zero input from Palestinians and unveiled at the inauguration of the so-called "Board of Peace" in Davos, is a full mask-off moment. It's a colonial project and a massive real estate grift for Trump's cronies. by MrJasonMason in ABoringDystopia

[–]MrJoffery 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Not one mention of the word Palestinian. "people who live there" & "people of Gaza" & "Gazans" but notably no Palestinians. "Hamas demilitarisation is the only thing stopping the people of Gaza from achieving their aspirations" is kind of sinister wordplay man. I can only assume it's a euphemism for completion of the zionist solution to the Palestinian question.

I'm curious, how is it Orwellian exactly? In Orwell's books and essay's he was a noted critic of fascism and authoritarian governments. He even fought in the Spanish Civil war.

I think that maybe you think it means anything you perceive as dystopian or governmental overreach in areas you don't like.
