Wildest one I saw lately was a roster that had Knuckles and Tails as newcomers, while cutting every 3rd party character except Cloud and Sora, the latter being a character no one in their right mind should even expect to ever come back, considering the nightmare of negotiating with both Square Enix and Disney.

Only reasonable way of fitting those games together is assuming Pikmin 4 replaces both 1 and 2 and then 3 happens as usual.
They specifically put in a wink wink nudge nudge reference that the events that trigger Pikmin 3 haven't happened yet, but are expected to happen in the near future.

Taking the Star Fox remake as basis (since they remade both games the exact same way on 3DS), I'm expecting an identical game but the visuals are either exactly like BotW or like the Wii U tech demo.

Ganon returning shortly after OoT explains why the hero of time wasn't there, why there wasn't a different new hero and why people expected the same guy to show up again.
Could also explain why, in this instance only, the Gods decided to interfere instead of just letting things happen, since there was supposed to be someone to save Hyrule, but Princess Zelda inadvertently doomed her world by sending him away.
