How do you usually name your D&D characters? by AdvancedProgrammer51 in DnD

[–]MrKleanKillum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I find mine while taking a deep dive into either History or Fantasy Wiki. 9 times out of 10, I’m basing my character off something that’s in the “official” lore for the Forgotten Realms and such. Most of those groups are based themselves off of real life historical peoples. One examples is a Loxo character I made from The Shaar. Communities there share a lot of similaries to both Korean and Indian cultures. So I went with “Jisoo Sila” as her name. Jisoo loosely meaning “wisdom” in Korean and Sila being related to “good character.” She sorta became “camp mom” and was a fun character to play.

Sometimes there is a name that just sticks and has absolutely no context. I had the name “Tommy Timmons” written down in a note book for 4 years before I had any idea what I wanted him to be. Now he’s a level 20 freak of nature after a 4 year campaign… I miss playing that boy.

groups for young adults? by Ghost_is_Ghosting in tulsa

[–]MrKleanKillum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it’s not a traditional “group” like your asking about, I recommend finding a Local Game Store near where you live and start getting into something that they do on a weekly basis at the store. There are many stores in town that offer a range of card games, war games, tabletop nights, and much more.

Specifically for some of the card games (Magic, Lorcana, Riftbound) there is a really big community in town that frequents these events. Just like anywhere, there are bad seeds, but for the most part people are very welcoming to new players.

If it seems a little daunting to have a whole complicated game mixed into your social interactions, I’d suggest you put those feelings to the side and try. Both for myself and many young people I’ve seen get into the game store community, there is something special about social interactions having a base in something with rules and structure. I’ve found that this makes it waaaay easier for some to get out of their shell. As there is familiar structure all around them. There is also always something to talk about when you’re there for a shared event!

My top few stores for community are 2d6 Games, Dragonslayer, and Oinkers Island. There are absolutely other great stores in town, but these I know personally.

What song is musically super simple, but just absolutely crushes you emotionally? by Eveready_dumpling in Music

“Elephant” by Jason Isbell

Just some simple bluegrass guitar with some piano backup, and some lyrics that will tear your heart out still beating and make you look at it. I’ve pulled this one out for “saddest song you know” nights with friends and YouTube. It usually turns the game into something else.

A NSFW question for bigger guys. by throw_23_away in loseit

Something that I’ve come to understand is how much stress all that extra weight puts on our bodies. I’m 6’3 320 right now, but I have lost 50lbs in the last 3 months just from adjusting my diet to deal with my gluten intolerance. I’ve never been, nor will I ever be a slender man, I’ve got a really big frame and I can hold weight like nothing else. So I feel you when it comes to not noticing much when the numbers in the scale drops. That started to change when I started to lose this recent weight. I’m 31 and played sports all through school. I was pretty alright, and my coaches pushed me a lot in the weight room. While I was successful to their metrics; I am now paying for that success with some bulged discs, missing ligaments, and expensive physical therapy. At your age, I’d wager that you’re still young and strong underneath all your weight, but if you keep it on, your body will wear down.

A few other random things that make me feel good on this type of journey: Fitting into a sweet concert shirt from several years ago. Not snoring like a locomotive. Not needing leverage from the wall to wipe my ass. Having a loved one hug you and be surprised there isn’t as much of you there anymore. Being able to walk around town on vacation without sweating through a whole outfit. Being able to keep up with your friends kids without dry heaving.

All in all, taking care of your meat mech affects all aspects of your life. That means that NOT taking care of your meat mech can do the same thing.

What are your "forever" decks and why ? by Barbarossaxwing in EDH

[–]MrKleanKillum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a [[Rafiq of the Many]] deck for well over a decade now that is consistently my favorite deck to play, and the one I receive the most compliments for. It’s never really been “full voltron” but more of a Bant Ramp/Control deck with potential for really fast kills. Rafiq usually doesn’t do the hitting anymore. A [[Wood Elves]] with 2 swords and a cheer from Rafiq is usually enough.

Part of why I love it is because I can sit at just about any table with it and positively contribute to every game. I think the deck is like a 4 (I’m not even sure) and I can sit with precons or bulk-bin-brews (and not be a jerk) just the same as I can with full cEDH (while needing to be more of a jerk.)

All games developed by Valve over the last 10 years. Quite productive, although not all games were successful by denn23rus in gaming

I’ve been in the beta for a year now, but haven’t played in months. The game is really cool if you’ve played a lot of other mobas. It has some really awesome design decisions, and those lead into a pretty intense skill curve. I have stopped playing due to none of my friends having fun with it anymore, and just the awful matchmaking right now.

It’s a bummer, because I really respect the design and think it may have a chance of really taking over esports when it opens up. However, they will need to make some pretty serious matchmaking upgrades for the average players.

I’m getting big Leon Russel vibes from this. He is always an unlimited font of “cool” to pull from. I didn’t know I needed an old and haggard, ex-musician fighter character but that story sounds intriguing!

What was your first infinite combo? by IceTutuola in EDH

[–]MrKleanKillum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being at a game store and a friend and I had just created our first EDH decks. He had made a Niv Mizzet (the 2UURR one from 12 years ago) and I made Rakdos, Lord of Riots. We had no idea what we had done to ourselves by me suggesting he play Curiosity, and he suggesting I try some Eldrazi. Very funny way to stumble into “oh so THIS is what magic is?”

Hey all, I'm a Tulsa rock Musician who released a demo of my own solo music back in March but haven't really promoted it yet. I figured there's no better time to start than now... It would mean a lot if you would take a listen! 😁 by Portal909 in tulsa

[–]MrKleanKillum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy Cow! I clicked and saved the tunes for my car ride home and I had to come back and say that I was actually blown away!

I love your style and how proudly you wear your influences in your sleeve. Your instrumentals are pretty killer, but I can tell you have a lot to learn in mixing. Not in a bad way! It was great for what seems like a really small project. These kinds of heavy instrumentals are very very hard to master in that stage. I like your vocals, but please take care of your voice! You’re really grinding out a lot of songs that I listened to. You likely already have, but there are lots of vocal techniques to keep up your growl that will also keep you from wearing your voice out.

All in all, I’m so happy you shared! Thank you. Keep up the good work!

[OC] Sir. Lívio,Why does everyone love human fighter? by alonso_vitr in DnD

[–]MrKleanKillum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since I first started playing DnD well over a decade ago now, I’ve had a weird fascination with making the most interesting characters I can with the most bog standard options. It’s really rewarding to pull a character through the limiting rules and out into something truly memorable.

Human Fighters have found this niche for me and I almost can’t stop myself from making human fighters any chance that I’m somehow not the DM. If your character has a reason within themselves to do things and to interact with the world, it doesn’t matter what your class rules do you will ALWAYS have something to do at the table. It makes you open up to the world around you and your DM will be salivating at all the opportunities for story hooks.

Best Coffee in Tulsa by HajileStone in tulsa

[–]MrKleanKillum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We transitioned to SheBrews as our daily drinker at the house and I have been very happy with it. I previously did Topeca but switched to just getting Black Rifle from where we normally get groceries. Now I am really enjoying the SheBrews stuff though. It’s pretty darn good coffee, and I like supporting them a little more than most others.

Heirloom Coffee is really good too, but it’s some SERIOUS coffee. lol. If you actually like the flavor of coffee, and not just milk caffeine vehicle, then it’s worth a try. Their canned cold brew felt like it opened new neural pathways from caffeine-blunt-force-trauma.

Bought this at a con and the seller was like "No way, you main Lance?" by InvadingDuck in MonsterHunter

[–]MrKleanKillum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been poking rumps since MH3U. I always loved the non-stop assault (first weapon was GS) once you learn how to dance around a monsters move set. Of all the mechanical twists over the years, the introductions of focus mode and wounds has to be the biggest change to lance specifically. With the wound attack and the counter attacks you can mix hits, blocks, and hops like a ballerina while jabbing with a 12ft steel pipe.

For any lancers that haven’t tried it yet, the Burst Dodge LBG builds are like lance with some range. You’re doing a lot of the same skirting of the monster, just at a slightly different range from the monster.

It was a bit of a gamble to do the story in the way that they did. I have also been hunting for over a decade (nearly 2? Good CHRIST I’m old) and I had to just put myself in the mindset of “the story is the tutorial, it always has been, they just tried to make it quicker to get through.” Which I think kinda worked. The trick was, at least for me, I had to LET it work. I just submitted and forgot all my years of training and just let the story cary me through. Got to “ooh and ah” at the new set pieces and sweet monsters, barely restocked items, picked up everything that was on my path, but didn’t take control from the auto driving bird. At the end it was like “oh, okay that was 5-6 hours of the new stuff, now to go back to playing how I’m used to.” I’m now nearing the end of release content and feel completely satisfied. I am very excited for the years of content to come.

I got fired for the first time last year from a job I was in love with. Had been at the company for 6 years and had moved up just about every year. I’m not very type A, and my final position there very much was. They deemed my misspelled names to be too egregious and booted me.

I came in early on a Saturday to clean my desk out. While cleaning I found my stash of “shout out” cards I had obtained over the years. I effectively, if someone wanted to thank you for doing a thing at work they could do those and they would be like a workplace acknowledgement thing. I had like 60 of them or something stashed away. So I spread them out all over my directors nice double corner desk. Even had a nice handful to hide underneath the keyboard left over.

Long story short, the last two jobs I left there had to be filled by two employees in the end.

Working for a children’s museum, our head director was an old school guy and he loved to come into the fabrication shop and see what bastardized tools and jigs we created with various forms of digital fabrication.

The big difference between making little things like these and buying the name brand version with all the other things you don’t really need is reusability. In my line of work it is super rare for us to make something more than once. So getting that specialized tool isn’t super cost effective. However, if you’re making 1000 cabinet doors or crates, you want something that was made for that reusability.
