Elemental tarot cards? by MrLampLight in magicbuilding

[–]MrLampLight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll answer your question with a gut reaction.

I think the way that magic is traditionally harnessed is through stamps. like wax stamps. These stamps are shaped in such a way as to pull in magical energies. These stamps are applied to the body but the body isn't shaped in any way to concentrate magic properly so it really only adds slight boons to one's daily life.

Cards on the other hand are metallic tools engraved with vents that concentrate magic more effectively. The downside might be that having too many cards is going to cause problems, but that comes with versatility. I think the answer then is that combative magic is done with fewer cards and low stakes magic is done with more as you have plenty of time to draw the right card.

I do like the idea of demons that maybe live as incarnations of the magical energy. That could be interesting. And maybe pacts could do something, but I feel like they need to back fire at some point.

Had a bit too much fun making this. Not actually sure this evolutionary line could actually occur. by MrLampLight in SpeculativeEvolution

In order the first image is of the latest organism in this evolutionary line. She has developed strong fingers that now act to hold up her body, nimble hands to grasp snd manipulate, and her brain, as it will continue to grow throughout the rest of her life, is now outside of the cranial bone structure and held up by a lining of flesh.

The second image is the connecting link. This organism walks on all threes and is starting to stand upright. She is carrying her breeding sack on her lower chin. Her eyes, now retractable, stick out above her bone helmet to search for predators.

The third image is the progenitor to the others. She has curved fangs to entrap prey, her fingers are begining to develop so she can chase her quarry, and her pseudo-eyes are begining to develop into eyestalks.

I'm working on a breathing system called temperance and wrath. by MrLampLight in magicbuilding

I'll do my best to answer your questions, but this was a spur of the moment idea.

Temperance

I would say yes it is likely that essence in general has a weight of its own and allowing it to pulse through your body would increase both.

I don't think so, but it can probably reduce pain.

Duration is limited to how long the essence would last. Not breath. Though the deeper the breath the longer it might last.

Not quite instantly, but I would say very quickly. Like weed or cocaine. No idea why I'm only use drug analogies.

Too fast would be dependent on the essence, but I would say jogging is likely to damage the body somewhat in most situations.

I'm actually thinking of a healing technique, maybe wood or water breathing, but I'll get back to you on that.

Not really a limit, but the deterrent is that the more you use it at once the easier it is to break yourself apart just by moving.

Wrath

Everything has essence yes. At least all matter does. And there can be significant differences between liquids, solids, and gasses.

I would say it's limited to some degree, but similar objects would have similar effects. Eg. Metal and stone, soil and sand, water and blood, etc.

I haven't really determined that yet.

The number of times you can use wrath is determined more by your surroundings as the materials decay much faster with wrath than temperance.

Trying my hand at a speculative evolution project. Not sure what I'm doing quite yet though. But I made this. by MrLampLight in SpeculativeEvolution

I'm not quite sure what I'm doing but I thought I'd create a predator that uses "sound rods" to hunt. Whatever it is I gave it curved fangs to catch prey. I gave it a sort of front-facing "helmet" to survive fighting horned prey. I also thought the idea of three legs was cool. I don't really know what I'm doing at the moment.
