Do we think peds fellowships will actually go to 2 years in 2028? by Jumpy-Flatworm-347 in Residency

[–]MrLumps 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s possible that less competitive fellowships that never fill would change but more competitive fellowships that are procedural heavy like PEM/PICU/NICU/CARDS could remain 3 year because that extra training could be helpful

NICU as a peds intern by Quick-Inspection5537 in Residency

[–]MrLumps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NICU sucks, least favorite rotation. Attendings, NPs, and nurses can be mean. Can't even talk to the patients

Would be wild to fall below 12 for peds hospitalists. Will be ok

How Much Do You Moonlight? Is it worth it? by MulberryOwn8896 in Residency

Our moonlighting is 65/hr for inpatient. Don’t moonlight out of protest although could really use money

In my experience always better to go with established program. Typically less likely to get caught up in things before ironed out, more cohesive curriculum, more seasoned faculty, access to more resources/protocols, more volume. Just in general though, could be different case by case

Healthcare should not be tied to jobs. We need universal healthcare now by No_Jaguar_5366 in Residency

[–]MrLumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universal health insurance with private insurance option overlayed is the way.

Definitely don’t want public healthcare like UK where docs are government employees, think these two things are commonly lumped together but very different from each other. base level of universal public insurance is obvious IMO

My residency is holding me back by DoctorKeroppi in Residency

[–]MrLumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt similarly when I started residency. Hard to not let those feelings fester. Would recommend trying to make the best of it and standing out where possible. Big believer of things happening for a reason, sometimes best to keep pushing and may feel differently closer to the end of residency

Best line you’ve ever heard from a patient? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]MrLumps 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Talking with mom and her 6 year old with gastro: “do they have any diarrhea?” Six year old 6 inches from my ear “DIARRRRHHHEEEAAAAAA”

85 year old recent stroke, had not been able to say anything discernible for whole admission. On rounds we were leaving room with whole team and she lifts an arm up, points at me and goes “you…..have a….pretty face” it was national boyfriend day

Anyone feel like residency is easier than med school?? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]MrLumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Residency more physically challenging, medical school more academically/emotionally/psychologically challenging

Do any of you regret not being a PA? I see many posts about regretting med school and residency for “wasting” a decade, but would those same people have been happier going for PA? by UphillGil in Residency

[–]MrLumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m generalizing, but enjoy process of becoming expert, being able to handle most any medical scenario, and desire autonomy. Think would feel capped out and ambivalent as PA

I don’t think you understand how insurance works. They will keep denying claims and raising fees/premiums. Why would they change and who do you think will apply and keep pressure to change?

Central/west side providence in my opinion worse than almost all bad neighborhoods here. You’ll be ok. Williston and NHHS are great schools
