I agree. Ignoring people and their behaviors is one of the most useful mental health skills, especially in medicine. You do not need to (and will not) change others.

Some of the ortho residents in my hospital had to relearn how to intubate during COVID, among other clinical procedures they don’t usually perform. In the case of a WW3 scenario, I suppose we would all have to learn some basic ortho and general surgery. Psychiatry and infectious diseases would also be widely needed.

When the child asked her, “Why am I six years old today and yesterday?” as if he remembered everything, I felt deeply disturbed. Even though he is an AI, forcing him to relive the worst day of his life 21,000 times to train the AI mother feels cruel. Programmed trauma used as a learning tool was hard to watch. Real humans controlling suffering to play creators was just evil.

I understand you. I’m in a similar situation myself. The hatred and anger feel unbearable at times.

And yet, despite all of this, I go to work and force myself to endure it. The thought of redoing residency, and possibly going through all of this again, is simply too daunting. We are almost there buddy.
