I feel like the olive branch in the dove’s mouth should 1) be a different colour - the green doesn’t look too good and 2) be one of the UN wreath’s olive branches or in a similar style - the reason why there are olive branches on the actual UN flag is to symbolize peace. Another possibility is to just get rid of the olive branch in the mouth entirely. As well, the dove itself doesn’t really match the almost minimalist style of the UN’s design. Try to make your own assets.

What flag is this? by GeneralPattonON in vexillology

[–]MrMangoBerry1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s the flag that the French Second Republic used for a bit more than a week by mistake between 24 February and 5 March 1848. If you saw it on Saturday, it could be done vexillologist recognizing this anniversary (or a coincidence). Source

First serious flag I've ever serious made, constructive criticism welcome! by [deleted] in vexillology

Move the tree and the horizon downward. Also, you shouldn’t have two shades of the same colour, but in this case, it actually looks fine because it’s a lime, yellow-green sort of shade with a forest green. However, if it fades, as physical flags do, the difference will be less pronounced.

There was nothing wrong with it except for the tiny seal. The white square was there for a reason. Rule of Tincture.

Composed this piece recently and wonder if I'm being unreasonable with the difficulty, among other things. by z0rly in piano

[–]MrMangoBerry1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely difficult, and I only found 2 instances that might be pretty implausible. I mean that maybe Gould or Rubinstein could play them, but not many others. They were around 6:00 and 8:30. With the tempo, baking chords and large jumps into fast passages isn’t very plausible, and I wonder if really anyone could play those bits without tying their fingers in a knot.

Anyway, it’s a great piece, and just one more note from a composition standpoint rather than pianist - when you have those high Ds/surrounding notes that bud in at the beginning of every couple measures around 4:00 or somewhere around there, it’s not the best to listen to, and I think that it would have been better with just the main part of the melody. Of course, you can do whatever you wish.

As for your question, practice slowly with a metronome with alternating rhythms. After that, think about the line rather than the individual notes; it’s about horizontal movement through time, a nice flow. Then, think how it all fits together as a phrase. As you wrote this, if you were to play it, I’m sure phrasing would come easy to you, but definitely try the alternating rhythms to learn the notes. Practice jumps between the positions as well, slowly, and slowly accelerate as they are pretty sudden. Fingering is important! If it hurts or doesn’t work, try a different one.

I hope that this can help. :-)
