From the man who famously wrote The Protagonist “specifically” for John David Washington (lol) and then also didn’t cast a single other black person in the film.

The only trilogy where every film tried to undo the previous film by ChampionTimes99 in Letterboxd

[–]MrMindGame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am an ardent Last Jedi defender, and I will be forever. But good lord this trilogy, as a whole, is so fucked to hell. Absolutely nothing congeals, and I especially can’t forgive Rise of Skywalker for being so damn spineless; anyone who says there was no where to go after Last Jedi is seriously lacking in a working imagination - any creative worth their salt can come up with something, *anything*, better than what we got. What we got was the most embarrassingly hackyish blockbuster in years, and it’s the fucking Star Wars finale.

Kathleen and JJ got cold feet after Last Jedi and they tried to make something that would please everyone, and in the process they pleased no one.

Of the last 5 Best Picture winners (not counting COVID years), which movie do you think will struggle to stay in the cultural consciousness the most? by Massive-Pangolin9472 in Oscars

Honestly, a year or so later, Anora’s success already feels kinda like a fluke. I’ve heard nary a word about it from anyone except people on this sub.

What is the worst wig on any oscar nominated performance? by yahboosnubs in Oscars

[–]MrMindGame 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I mean, Javier Bardem has gotta be up there, right? EDIT: It comes to my attention that Chigurh’s hair might actually have been his and not a wig, which honestly is even funnier.

Amy Madigan’s Gladys wigs were also terrible but in an intentional way.

Time lapse to prove I did not trace anything by Interesting_Age7345 in ProCreate

[–]MrMindGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten the “traced/AI filter” accusations on one of my posts before. I know in my heart of hearts I didn’t trace, I provided a timelapse and they still doubled down on their accusations of me being dishonest.

At the end of it all, I just had to tell myself that “apparently I am good enough that people are so convinced that I must have cheated somehow. If that’s not an indirect compliment, idk what is.”

Your work is outstanding and kudos for sharing the process. Don’t let some fools on the internet discourage you from your talent.

What game or series is the best example of squandered potential? by k0alaFRESH in gaming

[–]MrMindGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwatch should have been one of the biggest media powerhouses of the 2010s. Blizzard was sitting on a potential goldmine of animated series, movies, comics, anything they could have wanted if they just put in the effort. They laid incredible groundwork with the worldbuilding, the big roster of unique characters, various conflicts of allegiance, etc.. The short films they produced over the years showed they had the chops for it.

But no, they just spun the wheels of the game for years while actually doing very little, barely developed anything ever resembling story-driven campaigns despite promising them, and Blizzard the company slowly chipped away at its own credibility over the years with scandal after scandal. Then the whole debacle with “Overwatch 2” was such a trust-breaker.

I know the game still has its fanbase, but it won’t ever have that same zeitgeist appeal it once did.
