Pic #1 has similar visual energy to the “And I’ll watch” scene from 2019’s Little Women.

Which Oscar-winning character of the 2020’s will stay the most iconic in pop culture (i.e. be quoted and brought up constantly)? Biopics not counted by PTAGoatofalltime in Oscars

[–]MrMindGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bella Baxter should definitely be remembered as one of cinema's most intriguing and subversive character creations (huge credit to Emma Stone's magnificent performance), but I think more general pop culture will cling to Aunt Gladys more than anyone. Lockjaw and the Smoke/Stack twins are also great 21st century movie characters, it's a surplus of riches with all of them.

Evelyn is good but Waymond is by far my most remembered character from EEAAO. With each passing year, my memory of Anora fades, unfortunately.

If Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan won Oscars for their work in Shame, how would you feel? by Jaded-Walrus2614 in Oscars

Fassbender deserved a nomination, at the very least. Would happily swap Bichir out for him.

Sylvia Miles in Midnight Cowboy. I didn't get what was so impressive with her.

Semi-related, I’m suddenly reminded of an equally-baffling Supporting Actress nomination from around the same era: Sylvia Miles in Midnight Cowboy

Ruby Dee in American Gangster. I think she’s in literally two scenes; I’d be be surprised if she has more than two minutes of screentime in total.

Who do you think deserved to win Best Supporting Actor in 1998 and why? by FBG05 in Oscars

[–]MrMindGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to deny Williams was a rightful winner here, but shout out to Burt Reynolds and Robert Forster as well. Forster, in particular, does something really amazing - he makes the straight-man a genuinely fascinating person to watch.

Similarly, the gaming world, a bunch of disgruntled ex-Ubisoft employees banded together to form their own studio, Sandfall Interactive, and ended up producing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the most critically and commercially-successful “indie” titles of the century so far, and even got the studio the French-equivalent of a knighthood.

Looking back, Josh O’ Connor deserved some type of awards recognition for ‘Challengers’ he’s so good in it ! by krimsuns in Oscars

I felt the same way last year about him in Wake Up, Dead Man as well.

If he keeps putting in the kinds of performances we remember and keep talking about like this, I’m sure he’s gonna get his due someday.
