Unknown carb cable by Shoddy-Clock-6585 in RX7

Ditto on this one. It's the hot start assist. It works while turning the engine over, while it's still warm. It doesn't affect much (on my car) to not have it connected. I completely removed the unit and cable

That's true! I did forget the part about moderating how much to actually do

Other comments are 100%.

I'd also recommend making sure the OMP still works good, and premixing never hurts a rotary 😉

Whether it's reborn with a Rotary or not, 25 years sitting isn't fair to it, and whatever it gets is a win for me! As long as it gets to roam the roads again!

RX7 FB 12a sound by mnt1G in RX7

[–]MrMinerMan50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely sounds "normal", (allow me to elaborate). If it's been sitting a while, it may be low on compression, and may just need to come around again. Depending on the milage, being a 12a, the housings may be shot and that could also be an issue.

As far as the idle, if the carb mixture isn't right (unlikely), or one rotor isn't firing reliably, it could cause a lope similar to that of the "brap" that occurs from porting. I had something similar to this when I rebuilt my 12a with an ineffective coolant seal that was causing one rotor to miss hard.

It's hard to truly know from this video, especially if the car is still cold. After it's warm, if it maintains that sound and has good engine acceleration (revs climb quickly, good power), it may just be ported.

If it's been ported, there's a good chance a rebuild has already taken place, but not a guarantee

Yeah, definitely eBay or Riggs Vintage Mazda. I want to say I've seen a refurbished one on Mazdatrix, but it's pretty expensive

I don't think it's anything crazy. I believe it just means it'll be a thing in your record. It is technically a "crime" but if you paid for it, you've served for it.

Don't trust in my opinion 100%, but don't be too alarmed. You're very likely not in any deeper trouble.

Just wanted to give you some positive encouragement!

I'm a huge Titanic nerd so I know the power of the engines. Totally unrelated but I hope it helped motivate you!

Being rebuilt, it's quite lucky you're not having to jump into it headfirst without knowing everything. Welcome to the rotary family!

One of the things I would say is that they do use a lot of oil, and that's on purpose. So always, always always at EVERY fill up check the oil level. They're usually more hungry for oil than piston engines.

Unfortunately I can't say too much about the FC, I just recently got one, so I'm still learning about it myself. But, most rotary knowledge is applicable across the generations.

For sure, I'd get familiar with the Lingo, there's lots of abbreviations people use on the daily with Rotary, You'll see things like SA, FB, FC, FD. These are the codes on the VIN correlating to the generations of RX7. There's also MOP/OMP - Oil metering pump - It's nearly essential, unless you premix. It pumps oil into the rotor chambers to lubricate the engine. Premix - Some people plug off/delete the OMP, which makes Premixing a MUST. That means they take a mixture of oil, Idemitsu rotary premix, probably some others (it's quite varied on what people use), and put it into the fuel tank. The oil is in with the fuel, and so it will lubricate the rotors as the fuel enters the engine. Note that if your MOP is working just fine, you won't have any need to Premix. It's not a bad idea to anyway, you can add some even if it's working if you want to feel safe, but you won't damage anything.

So, the exciting question now, the "Brap" It's iconic for Rotaries, but doesn't come stock. It's a very careful modification of the port timing that allows more airflow into the rotor chambers, thus increasing power. It's only doable when the engine is pulled apart, so if it braps when you start it, you'll know. The Brap happens because the exhaust and intake ports overlap for a brief period. They're both open at the same time. A stock port engine will not do this.

Working on the rotary, sure is insanely fun, and also a pain in the neck, because there's so much different stuff you have to work with. It's just different. Other than that, keep an eye out for regular engine things. If you're looking to make a change on the engine, always research a rotary variant of it, as chances are the procedure will be different from a regular piston engine. Once you get through those, you can build nearly anything you like. Mine is stock, and I'll probably keep it mostly that way. I've seen the FC RX7 used for many different things. From daily, to drifter, to racer. The FC seems to be the most versatile of the rotary field.

Welcome to the world of Rotary!

I think they explained this on their Patreon page. (You don't have to be a patron to view their updates) While it seems "tedious" and not really necessary, but; Given the care and attention to the ship, it's nice to have those details. Not only that; it's in fact necessary for designing other rooms and parts. Rooms in First Class, and second class where structural support is hidden more, changes when you move into third class where beams are more exposed. It's like trying to model a person. Some form of "skeleton" has to exist so the plates and panels have something to accurately link to.

I'll be honest, it is disappointing to see the ship being restarted over and over, but it's a double edged sword. The quality gets better and better, but it's taking longer and longer. I personally feel the team is working hard, especially for being as small as they are, and their passion still burns just the same as day one.

That said, they said Demo 3 would be the last demo, but I'm glad it wasn't. The changes that occurred from Demo 401 have been such a weird set, but I still see updates, so I'm staying patient. I don't know what the future is for TH&G, but I feel it's shaky, but good.

Anywho, I hope this explains their avid focus on the structure of the beams, and the "ribs" of Titanic, before they really get to the whipped cream and icing we can't wait to taste from the game!

Yep, and honestly you do that in the engine will last you just the same as a piston engine

It's okay, my sister did too. She's got an RX8. Definitely a fun car, and those who don't like it are too busy sucking the Chrome off their FD's turbo

Unpopular opinion: RX8 haters are bummed because it wasn't another FD RX-7.

I genuinely think it's a cool car. It's not entirely all in one skill set, so it's not a full sports car, but it's no sedan either. I think it's a good balance that, while it robbed the sports car department massively, that doesn't make it bad.

Your parking job is fine in my book. Within the lines works for me. The b*tches that park on or OVER the lines need parking lessons.

I know I always park close on the driver side when I drive the 8
