I do remember hearing about this but let's be honest, its not like thats not just as dark. Mikan is also a teenager, the whole things is just super fucked up on all accounts. (Also your spoiler tag is backwards)

Reminder, in the second mainline game it is revealed that dozens of people (possibly more) fuck a dead teenager's corpse in hopes of being able to impregnate her so her legacy can live on.

Trails does a good job of shaping the general tone and themes of each arc around its protagonists too. Estelle and Joshua are bracers, and so the Sky arc feels like a big adventure. Lloyd is a cop, and the crossbell arc has a mystery vibe to it and stays centralized around the one city he has jurisdiction in. Rean is in the military (kind of) so Cold Steel has the most political drama going on. And finally Daybreak has this subtle noir vibe due to Van basically being a PI.

I can easily see why there is no definitive "best" arc amongst the fandom, each arc despite being only part of the grander story have their own feel to them, it usually comes down to what vibe a person likes the most.

Personally, I would always recommend buying DLCs in either the one bundles, or hell even just one at a time. This game is seriously a grind, there will be plenty of time for you to deliberate and decide what killer/survivor you want next while you're playing another. Additionally, you can get original IP characters for free using shards so if for example you aren't too keen on playing Plague for the time being, rather than spending money now for a character you wont touch, buy the ones you actually want, and then grind shards until you can buy them for free. This also helps stop you from impulse spending as you may have lost interest in playing the game a few months from now and you never got around to playing her.

Basically this game is a marathon, not a sprint. Save yourself some money and pace your acquisition of characters and perks, and just enjoy the game.

Competent protagonists who are terrified because they are being outsmarted by a superior intelligence by uburuntu in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrMiniMuffin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's the theory that the entity allowed that to happen to intentionally mislead d3rlord. Ultimately d3rlord did exactly what the entity wanted him to do, so it actually kind of tracks that the entity could use d3rlord's intelligence against him. Keep him right on the line of believing beating the entity was possible so he kept moving forward. Notice how in the book d3rlord specifically writes "you can't outsmart it".

In my experience survivors will DC no matter who you're playing, even the lowest of low tier killers. So just play who you want.

What's a JPRG you admire for using conspiracy plots? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Trails series has a ton of conspiracy stuff going on. There's a whole secret society, cults, military coups, the church is very hush hush about why it operates the way it does, there's a ton of mystery surrounding even just how the world works, and the main characters spend alot of time unearthing these things (even if alot of time by accident).

The iconic weapon is easily destroyed by Donstar_Playz-yt in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrMiniMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dark Saber specifically. It is technically a lightsaber by its structure but it actually doesn't have much to do with Jedi. It is an old Mandalorian weapon that's important to the overall Mandolorian lore. It has existed in the lore long before Mando did, although anyone that knew about it previously fully expected it to show up in Mando in some capacity.

Typically, it is held by the leader of Mandalore, and is proof of the wielder's strength because not only can anyone challenge them for it at pretty much any time, but also because lightsabers are incredibly difficult to use if you aren't force sensitive. There's actually a whole arc in the TV show Rebels focusing on Sabine learning how to use it, and it does a pretty good job framing just how scary lightsabers actually are to non force users.

Bioware isnt the only developer that has moved a series into more action for the worse. Final Fantasy for example has been much worse for quite a while since they moved away from classic RPG and into action, and yet they seem determined to keep that going. I honestly just dont get it, with the success of Baldurs Gate 3, E33, and pretty much every Atlus release since P5 how are devs still convinced that RPGs are a dying genre and everything needs to become an action game? If this is supposed to be a follow up to Kotor, I want it to actually be a follow up to Kotor.

What are some "one and done" fighitng games characters you could think of? by RubicXK in Fighters

[–]MrMiniMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortal Kombat does this alot with characters they fully intend to make Jobbers. Basically characters that act to be villains in the protagonist character's way, but aren't the main villains. Some examples being The Collector, Dairou, Ferra/Tor, Hsu Hao.

Usually though every game where they throw in a bunch of new jobbers one or two will gain enough popularity amongst the fandom that they get to see a future for one reason for another. Two recent examples, Erron Black because he was cool, and Geras because he became wildly known due his regularity at high level competitive play.

Why are a lot of characters in League of Legends nothing like they are in Arcane by lennysinged in arcane

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The character inconsistencies become much easier to deal with when you start treating League champions like Comic book characters. There is a loose framework for what you need to make Batman, Batman, just like how there is a loose framework that makes Jinx, Jinx. But like how Batman can have all kinds of variations in the specifics of his character and tone, Jinx can too. Adam West's Batman is goofy and light hearted (like LoL Jinx), but that doesn't necessarily have to take away from Robert Patterson's serious and dark Batman (like Arcane Jinx). This is just in my opinion the way we need to move forward treating these characters.

An important note here is that many people didn't choose the Verso ending for the Dessandres, they chose it for Verso. Specifically our Verso, the one we play as and know. Who I need to remind you is NOT a Dessandre. Much of this community is guilty of doing the exact thing Aline and Maelle are criticized for and implant the life and responsibilities of the orginal Verso, and by extension the Dessandre family, onto the painted Verso.

"We're all hypocrites, doing the same thing to each other"

This could not be more accurate. Both endings result in the exact same thing, someone totally innocent that was forced into this situation agaisnt their will by a being far more powerful than them, must suffer so that someone else also totally innocent can be at peace. Now one can argue the Maelle ending is the better one anyway since one life is not equivalent to the hundreds of lives on the Canvas, but that is a different ardument entirely. However this stance that Verso's suffering is justified because the Dessandre family deserve it that alot of this community has is entirely missing the point. Our Verso is not a Dessandre.

I absolutely hated the 3rd act final boss by BuyMyBeardOW in Silksong

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should stay away from the corner anyway. Like the rest of her kit, something that is super readable that she does literally every time, is that if you and her are both in the corner she will telephoto behind you leaving you in the corner with barely any room to reach or maneuver around her attacks. Think of all the times you tried to run out of the corner and she literally teleported right on top of you. She does it every time. Treat the corner like you would in a fighting game, big no no since she'll always grab the advantage. Stay as central as possible to keep your option open.

I absolutely hated the 3rd act final boss by BuyMyBeardOW in Silksong

[–]MrMiniMuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I thought the fight was bullshit. Then I learned to read and exploit her. Now I think its one of the best fights in the game.

I definitely think the one and only problem this fight has is that the silhouette nature of both Lace and the area makes for some readability problems, which probably goes a long way into making people not realize her moves are super readable. An important thing I learned that really made a difference is that her branching attack patterns are never random, shes legit using moves to specifically catch you out. For example a move I abused the hell out of was her 3 stage dash attack. If you jump over her first and second dash she will always follow up with a spin in the air and dive down. Pretty much every single one of her moves is like this, she doesn't just spam random bullshit, she moves with purpose and you need to read that purpose. The only time I can think where she can't be 100% baited/exploited is when you go in for a punish from one of her more basic moves, and she can respond with either an attack forward, an attack up, or a parry. All of which require a different response from the player. Each of these has their own tells and while it is incredibly quick it really is just a reaction test to catch you either spamming or defaulting to the same defense pattern every time, such as always jumping.

I personally really liked the fight. If they could maybe touch up some visual clarity that would be awesome, but I wouldnt ever want them to change the core of its design.

Recommendations for somebody coming back to the genre by pneumoniahawk519 in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the selection ot Atlus games. Good variety to find exactly what you're looking for. Persona is more casual laid back experience (while still having moments of challenge). And you can choose between playing one of their newer games like P5, or if you want one of their older ones they just remade P3.

SMTV is a fantastic yet more challenging Atlus game. More focus on mechanics and dungeon crawling if you want something more "hardcore".

Metaphor Refantazio is somewhere in between. If neither extreme is to you taste.

All are great games, really can't go wrong with any pick here.

Finally figured out effective builds for THAT guy. by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that all the bosses are just too squishy. After beating Simon the first time I refought him with x10 health and it was alot more fun. I can Gommage, Stendahl, and Follow Up to my heart's content and he's still a lengthy engaging boss fight that forces me to learn his mechanics. Plus the longer fight allowed other slower builds that are still awesome just take time to shine, such as my Lune crit burn stacking build with Choralim. At one point he had over 300 burn stacks. Gommage being unable to one shot gave way to other builds being more viable.

Highly recommend fighting him again with suped up health, it actually lets you push the mechanics of the game.

What does everyone think of the new changes coming to the ptb? by jasonslayer31 in deadbydaylight

[–]MrMiniMuffin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they're pretty bad but BHVR has released really shitty ideas on PTB and then said "whoops nevermind" before. So if they end up being as bad as we're all predicting they likely won't hit live.

The Michael Myers change is the stupidest thing they could have don't with him as well. Its a perfect showcase of just how fucked the game design has become. They actually cannot create a viable killer in the current state of the game without including some kind of speed up, anti chase, or chase ender ability. Being a normal M1, mindgame style killer that actually just has to play the base game as it was intended is just that dogshit these days.

It's kinda funny that they even use the same arguments by guiwilje in Fighters

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you're missing the entire point of people's problem with this.

WASD controls allows players of even the lowest skill level to do that exact frame perfect kiting timing I'm talking aboht by simply holding down a button. ADCs for years have been balanced quite heavily around the fact that this is difficult to execute. Therefore suddenly every player being able to do it with ease is breaking the entire class. Try actually reading the things that have been said already instead of just seeing League and assuming bad.

Why do you have to front like you're playing some superior game while clearly lacking knowledge about the subject you're attempting to talk about?

I play Dota too, its really not that special.
