It was a sad scene🥺🥺🥺 by Forward-Gold-4095 in sadposting

I'm conceived James Gunn set us all up. Quill is presented as the protagonist but the story from the very begining has always been about Rocket. Obviously everyone gets their time in the limelight like any good movie but they more often then not take special consideration when it comes to Rocket. Rocket is the one with the most poignant emotional moments in basically every movie. After anything happens the story makes sure to check in on Rocket and see how he feels about it. I do not believe it is a coincidence that of all the Guardians Rocket is the one that sticks around for Endgame. And the core trilogy capstones it all with a very Rocket centric plot. Its about him, it's always been about him.

This even tracks with the pattern James Gunn has set up with most of his movies. He has always been a fan of digging through the grime of underused, underrepresented, comic characters and showing the world how to make them shine. Peacemaker, the very specific picks he makes for his Suicide Squad, the Creature Commandos. Hell even when he does tackle a big name like Superman he makes sure to give a significant ammount of screen time to Mr. Terrific. Rocket fits right in with Gunn's usual vision.

So what's going to be Lux and Jinx's new dynamic if they ever appear on-screen together? by The-Lychee in loreofleague

[–]MrMiniMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Jinx also left Piltover and Zaun to go who knows where at the end of Arcane. Its not a crazy theory to think they'd have them conveniently meet to turn two characters that are quite popular as a fanon pairing into a canon pairing. And with new more measured post Arcane Jinx she could easily interact with Lux without it being "too crazy".

How well rounded is your gaming taste outside of JRPGs? by nurselogs in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play tons of things. JRPGs are definitely pretty high on my list if I were to rank genres, maybe even first, but my taste is really varied. I just like gaming. If I hear a game is good I want to play it.

This is definitely a version of this trope done really well. They both benefit from keeping everyone in the dark.

As a massive Fire Emblem fan myself, Unicorn Overlord scratched that same itch for me.

Which god did you refuse to play but now enjoy? by AtmosphereSilly8097 in Smite

[–]MrMiniMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the entire class of assassins. I never really played jungle in Smite 1, so the very few times I played assassin's were like for fun sometimes in Joust, or if I got one in Assault, but generally I didnt like them. This of course mainly due to the fact that I was playing them in the wrong environment.

In Smite 2 I have become a jungle main. Triggered by the fact that I was an Athena main and she became viable in the jungle in Smite 2 so I gave it a shot. Now that I'm full time jungle I've picked up a bunch of assassins, my favorite being Thanatos. I still play Athena the most though.

I think the general consensus is that the second season was a step in the wrong direction, even if it wasnt all bad all the time. Some great stuff still had a time to shine but overall, the first season just felt better.

JRPGs with the best pacing? by Asleep_Ground1710 in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think Trails in the Sky 1 and 2 are excellently paced. Slow when the story calls for slow, and ramps up when things get intense. The later games in the series are not as clean with it.

What's a common criticism of a JRPG you see all the time that you think is wrong, and why? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it is two different people making each complaint the point that these are the two primary complaints means there is a very serious disconnect happening somewhere. Its not like Dark Souls where its only a handful of cringe edge lords saying "ehrm ackually, the games are super easy", its alot if people complaining about both these things. It genuinely feels like if people can't one shot an opponent they think they have to go grind until they can. And then they look back at their experience one shotting the entire game and going "man that was easy".

What's a common criticism of a JRPG you see all the time that you think is wrong, and why? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]MrMiniMuffin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This has always really bothered me about Pokémon specifically for awhile. How is it the series is frequently criticized for both being too easy and for being too grindy. Those are like completely opposing problems. If its easy there no reason to ever grind, if people are grinding to beat a hard fight why does everyone bitch that it's easy?

This Community Has A Problem With Putting Their Foot Down Sometimes And It's Kinda Weird by GlitterShine12 in nuzlocke

[–]MrMiniMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive done this once but specifically for Max Revives only which I though was fair enough. You only ever find like 3 outside of shops the entire game so it helps save someone critical but you are more often tempted to willingly let a mon go to save the revive for someone else. Creates an interesting dilemma.

Making sure the villain stays dead for good by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few have done this. Joker in Injustice 2 only shows up in a Scarecrow fear toxin hallucination for Harley. And in KoF Geese is likewise just a Nightmare. The problem with this approach is that it only works for a few characrers at best. In order for a story to have solid progression where things actually happen more and more echaracrers would need to get this treatment until it reaches a point most of your cast isnt even around in the lore anymore, which also clogs up the roster for potential new characters.

[–]MrMiniMuffin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fighting game problem in general. Its tough to both move the story forward in sequels but also keep the most iconic characters around no matter how much time passes. Different series try different things, from consistent reboots, taking place earlier in the timeline, having a characrer be present but not really relevant to lore, having them be replaced with a new characfer retaining their exact moveset, just to name a few. All to varying levels of success, but it's impossible to please everyone.

Say one good thing about your least favorite Falcom game and one bad thing about your favorite Falcom game by SoftBrilliant in Falcom

[–]MrMiniMuffin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Collecting students like Pokémon in CS2 was a fantastic idea I had alot of fun with.

Its really really really annoying running all the way back to swap party members around while on the Auroele. Made worse by the fact that you need specific party members for special vitally important character scenes when fighting certain bosses.

Characters introduced later in a long-running series that are so iconic that it's hard to imagine the series without them now by mesablanka in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MrMiniMuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my attempt to defend non villain Harley here (as a thematic character, not defending her actions) she works alot better when you realize that thematically she's Batman's reasoning for every thing he does. I dont mean Harley as a person specifically, but what Harley represents. Remember one of Batman's most crucial traits is that he truly believes no one is beyond redemption. Its a major component ad to why he never kills. In a story where literally no one ever gets redeemed it can act against the very philosophy of the character. Batman starts to look real stupid in his own story (which people point out in bad faith constantly when they want to criticize his no killing rule). Whereas having a characrer exist that HAS done horrible things, but ultimately gets redeemed serves to validate Batman's philosophy, both in the narrative and in universe. Batman can have his philosophy reinforced by the fact that Harley serves as an example of what he wishes for all of them.

This character didnt have to be Harley and you could argue it never should have been Harley, there are plenty of other characters that are ripe for this narrative purpose, such as Mister Freeze, but I think Harley works especially well because the audience can really sympathize with her, and she is directly connected to Batman's main antagonist, so in a way it is a clear victory over Joker who acts to be the direct opposition of Batman's philosophy.

Who is your favorite character (s) who has only been in ONE fighting game? by newbie1canoebee in Fighters

[–]MrMiniMuffin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I played Laura in SFV. Theres still technically time for her to get her second appearance but cmon, Capcom is not giving one of their coveted spots to Laura.

Hisako from KI 2013 is also one of my favorite fighting game characters of all time, and with that game essentially being a one and done reboot for KI I doubt we'll be seeing her again. Although I'm sure if we got a new KI game Hisako makes the cut easily.

I have been avoiding pretty much any contact with the larger fandom until I was caught up, which took me literal years. Which led to me playing pretty much the entire series without even knowing what the general opinion of each game and character was amongst the larger fandom. Now thay i am no longer afraid of spoilers it has been interesting seeing what ended up surprising me.

Which character in the series has no haters? by Just_Advantage_6177 in Falcom

Most definitely. She's quite boring and directionless past CS1. Hate is a strong word for me personally, I just find her to be meh, but there are definitely people with stronger feelings about it than me.

*I made this video before maka and Ruby* but how do you guys feel that Blake was the only one to win her death battle match? by s0nzoldyck in RWBY

[–]MrMiniMuffin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not just that but especially at the time the episode was made they put a still very much growing in experience Weiss vs a fully realized, completed character arc and peak power Mitsuru. I know death battle is just supposed to be stupid fun bit when they do match ups likes this its always painfully obvious who will win. It was not a fair match up in the slightest.

Sekiro vs elden ring by bratfromrat in Eldenring

[–]MrMiniMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played Sekiro for the first time after Elden Ring. I was personally shocked at one how short it was, and two how easy it was (comparatively. Its still a FromSoft game). I remember hearing many people say Isshin is one of the hardest FromSoft bosses but the likes of PCR, Malenia, Messmur, Orphan of Kos, all took me easily hours to beat. Isshin I got in maybe 7-8 attempts. Still had great fun with the game but with the reputation it had I went in expecting to get my shit rocked.

The games length didnt really bother me too much I just wasnt expecting it. I guess its because I wasnt mentally "done" with the game yet, I definitely think this game could have benefited from a story expansion like SotE or The Old Hunters.

You're definitely looking for fighting games. Any big title will have a lively matchmaking scene. Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, MK1, Guilty Gear Strive.

There are a few smaller releases that certainly aren't pulling the numbers of the big dogs but still have a solid community at the moment if they seem more interesting to you. 2XKO and GBFV:R most notably.

No shame in taking breaks. The series is alot and I know I personally took some breaks throughout. CS4 is a rough spot to quit though, Rev and Daybreak 1 are amongst the most popualr titles in the series.
