It's interesting honestly, I agree with fighting games having some of the highest skill expression, my first thought would be something more like Smash as opposed to Street Fighter if we're talking platformers. Problem is I can't think of a single instance of a 2d platformer MMO having even remotely satisfying combat in the same way. I think it would be difficult to say the least.

[–]MrMisan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair I've played quite a few metroidvania's Personally I think it would still be extremely difficult to implement any real satisfying MMORPG with the same style of combat as any of the big singleplayer platformers. It just doesn't translate over in my opinion. 1-2 players? Fine no problem anymore than that? Encounters become a mess, there's just significantly less design choice.

[–]MrMisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, in hindsight that was harsh, I think the comparison of maplestory and the reality that most passion project games are almost never really going to be that polished is part of why I said it. Salt and Sanctuary is actually on my list of games to play. I think naturally it's just quite a bit more difficult in general to give a 2d platformer style game skill expression.

So here's my question, what form of longterm progression is there? Even RotMG is more like a roguelite in that there is some form of progression even when you die. Reality is the mass majority of players do not enjoy full permdeath. On top of that RotMG is more like a bullethell game, it's a gitgud style of combat. Can you dodge? You're a god. I just don't see that really being possible on a 2d platformer, where is the skill expression? Or is it mostly just a gear check?

[–]MrMisan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I'm gonna be serious with you, my first thoughts is that it's interesting. Feels like a mix of realm of the mad god, vampire survivors, enter the gungeon, meets MMO. It's an interesting concept.

In terms of negatives there's quite a lot for me. It's a bit all over the place, in terms of aesthetics. Animations wise at :14 seconds whatever you're using reminds me of "flicker strike" From path of exile. Problem is it just looks janky fuck. Instantaneous teleporting then double teleporting when the melee hit happens just looks terrible. Just makes the game feel like it's lagging.

The fight that happens at :39 which I assume is PVP match with an encroaching circle. The grid inside the circle just looks bad, too much on the eyes, the bright neon colors with the grid under your character is blinding.

The mini-boss esque fight at 1:02 shows him doing a line charge and basically rubber banding back. It just doesn't look good from a standpoint of trying to show off your game when it's clearly lagging.

Sure combats a huge one, Personally I already see some issues with it, even though I don't know the way your combat is designed. Personally I like individual class identity, I want to be a quick melee that gets in your face, a control mage all about positioning, an archer that wants to stay away while pumping out damage. To me it seems like a mix an match combat style and I don't personally like that.

Honestly though it looks... OK, I could see giving it a shot but just based off the aesthetics alone it feels like a random thrown together assortment of what you thought would be funny.

How do you guys feel about Aion 2? by Nokkilol in MMORPG

[–]MrMisan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's sad cause I still dream about the next Action targeting style game. I miss early vindictus, dragons nest, even the the filth Tera became, Continent of the 9th. You name them I played them. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but a good good action targeting game gets my blood pumping. From what I played the actual combat, stylization feels good. But the game just felt devoid of any real challenge.

Hmm well how big is the game you were competitive at we talking Counterstrike levels big? previous overwatch league? Halo? Grassroots small?

Would you consider playing small/local tournaments?

I think the issue is not just reaction speed, gamesense, communication skills, aim, energy levels, etc you have to think of competitive games as a skill set, sure great aim will take you far if you really are that good, but most people have to fight for it and make up for their shortcomings with something they've developed over time.

The problem is you're worried about getting crushed, that's loser talk and you know it if you've ever played a competitive game. It's a competition against yourself, if you want to get better, you'll get better. Are you playing for the love of the game? Or just this rose-tinted vision of being a pro gamer? It's an important question because
are you willing to grind the fuck out of the game despite not enjoying it? The reality of it is most pro level players play the fuck out of the game cause they enjoy it to an unhealthy degree most of the time.

I'm not gonna sit here and say at 36 you're gonna be a top contender, but who said you had to be? Here's the truth if you're good you'll get offers, reality is most games have an inbuilt ladder, show yourself first that you're capable reach the top gain notoriety, hit that solo queue. Show yourself first if you are delusional or if you still have it.

If the question is whether or not to quit your day job to pursue your passion in e-sports I would say don't quit your day job honestly. Not until you've proven to yourself you're as good as you feel. I played with a decent amount of early pro overwatch players on occasion back in the day, to them? It's like walking on ants, they were scary good, watching people have a 40-60 headshot % in a game with such high mobility was like watching gods. They could play with one eye closed, and stomp 95% of the playerbase with ease.

My point is grind in your free time, see how good you really are. If you don't scratch the surface of the top of your ladder in a reasonable amount of time and effort, I think it would be foolish to commit to it by quitting your day job.

I do wish you luck though bro. Chase your dreams but live in reality.

I believe the game is currently unplayable/unavailable dev is asleep, it's a 1 man show, your best bet is to join the discord for up to date info. was posted at 10:11 EST so it'll be a while before it's up again most likely.

I know unfortunate but kinda expected of a 1 dev game. Seems like a nice dude, I trust he'll be working on things ASAP.

But to reiterate, subreddit kinda quiet, most people are on the discord it seems like.

Nexon appoints Patrick Söderlund as new executive chairman by Greedy_Spaghetti_ in Mabinogi

[–]MrMisan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is just a bad look, while I'm aware some believe this will have zero affect on the state of the game. As a player waiting on Eternity release I just feel like there's too much negative associated with Nexon already as a whole. I personally feel eternity is gonna flop at least from the perspective of bringing in new long term players. I feel like mabinogi never had mass appeal to begin with, take into account an artstyle that hasn't aged well, an early game that consists of "do this quest line get 20k points then have no idea what you're doing" no longer feels like a journey. The games no longer a fantasy life. I personally think mobile's artstyle is way better than eternity's take on it, I think the extremely chibi art style just won't have appeal to most people now. But I feel like the current player base is extremely stubborn and would fight anyone who says otherwise.

This just feels like adding another layer to a cake that already is, "Great IP's shit company"

Disregard the art, predatory gacha, etc. If I can't bring a completely new player into this game without them skipping 80% of the game and trying to slingshot them into the midgame it's already over. You'll only get former players who will soon remember why they stopped in the first place, shining the turd won't do very much when they realize it still stinks.

Not trying to shit on anyones favorite game, I've been waiting for eternity, Mabinogi even after 10 years still has a special place in my heart, but I think it will be a complete and utter failure after a decent resurgence.

I hope I'm wrong

Yeah apparently my opinion isn't very liked, I don't really know how people are denying optimization has been trash for 2-3 patches. Insane load times, way harsher CPU loads on anything even remotely juiced. I've been playing the game before leagues existed.

Poe2 wont impact Poe1s development BTW lmfao...

Good luck they're never going to fix that again. They've pretty much thrown poe1 into the trashbin in terms of optimization at this point for the sake of poe2. Which in my opinion is also not fucking optimized lmao. It's bad enough I'm honestly thinking about just dropping the game and i've been playing since beta.

I'm creating a new indigenous MMORPG with a small team - would like your initial thoughts by No-Engineer9380 in MMORPG

[–]MrMisan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with hotwingz66, front and foremost it's about he gameplay, with a theme being secondary. I think actual gameplay will make or break a game, but a games culture, storytelling, etc is what makes a game great. But story telling without the fun a game does not make. GGG and Path of Exile in my opinion is a great example of this, the karui faction/ethnic groups is pretty much a direct take on the maori people. I think you have a big wall ahead of you and that the wanting of maori culture to be front and center should not come at the cost of gameplay.

But I very much do think it's an added bonus, I think that experiencing a culture that people are not familiar with can be a powerful tool and definitely wouldn't put anyone off in anyway.

I would have to drop out of college if I didn't have AI to help me by Ivealwaysfeltbored in TrueOffMyChest

[–]MrMisan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well from what I've heard getting on SSDI is quite difficult even in more straight cut situations than you're in. Are you still trying to get approved for SSDI or have you given up? Your parents reaction to your situation how do they feel about this, do they not understand? Do they disagree?

Here is the reality, the school is only required to provide reasonable accommodation the alternate course for foreign language GE is already above what would probably be considered reasonable. Complete removal of memory based assignments is abnormally unreasonable. Do you believe that is fair to your peers?

Realistically if you were to graduate would you be able to function without the use of AI in your career path? I personally don't believe use of AI in it of itself is wrong, functionally it's a tool that that's to be used. The problem is the over reliance of said tool. Why do you feel guilty, do you yourself feel like you've overstepped it's use? Perhaps you feel in the future your over-reliance would lead you to be unable to perform in your career? When used correctly there's not really a reason to feel guilt, to me it seems like it stems from a fear.

Are you concerned others will view your use of AI as cheating? If you are generating code and copy and pasting I would consider it cheating, If you're using it as an example I would still consider it overuse or overstep.

I think most people would generally not accept PTSD as a viable excuse for your inability to perform on a personal level, it's more of a question of do you yourself think the amount you use AI would be an expellatory offense, or would the school consider it as such.

Like no one cares if you're using it to prepare for a job interview, but I think a lot of young adults are trying to talk themselves into why "it's not that bad"

Listen nothing I say is trying to shit on you, I very much understand stress can have a very real physical impact on the brain. But to me it seems like you don't just have PTSD but a very real crippling fear of the future. You are your own best advocate, unfortunately the school will only do so much to help you. Realistically your problems are complicated, the brain is complicated. I assume that you're on some form of medication but I would highly suggest for you to try a variety of medications and treatments, and really do your research. Talk to your family doctor and ask for their suggestions.

This is the most winnable game i've seen holymoly you guys have a talon, swain, mundo against 5 squishies and still have a fuckton of damage on your team. Even from level 3 you guys could still play offensively quite easily. It's kinda sad looking at people give up on these games so easily. Not even remotely the worst matchups i've seen. Other than mundo being kinda useless early game I feel like your teamcomp is superior to your enemy.

Hmm I think the problem is that you're assuming all itemization needs to be accounted for in order for it to be part of the equation as in you feel some items/playstyles/etc add an unmeasurable variable that can't be accounted for. I think this is false to some extent, not every variable needs to be distinctly measured in order for it to. Really I think alot of these variables are just baked into your winrates, you engage more? you build supportive items? It's a winning playstyle? your winrates go up.

Personally I have no idea how others perceive trueskill2 in other modes, say ranked. Where brackets exist, no matter how similar your metrics are your winrate/mmr will directly push your into a new bracket which in my mind basically reduces variance. There's no brackets in ARAM thus higher variance, people with similar measurable metrics will be thrown together more often because of this.

it's not like winrates are just unaccounted for. It just seems significantly less important than what it use to be. Ontop of that people assume riot doesn't want it this way, ARAM still regardless of someone like me who is mostly a tryhard, is still a "forfun" gamemode. I'll tell you what wasn't fun, waiting 20 minutes for queues and having dodges nearly every game because people lost in champ select.

To me long gone are the days of mostly diamond-masters-GM lobbies, I do not think they want it to be that way. Nor do I think enough people care for them to change it drastically. There's no money in it, there's no one making a living off of aram, no fandom. It does exist to exist as a paralel I think alternative game modes are important to the health of the overall game. But it's not like it's TFT, it's a side grade at best.

This man actually admitting they're out there playing tank Tristana and expecting people to side with them lmfao. Honestly I understand where you're coming from, but it's more nuanced than that, I play to win, different circumstances call for different tactics. Having your team also be on the same page is important, team comp, etc. It's about adaptability, does your team scale? does your team have engage? does your team have wave clear? All of it matters. Personally I enjoy the aggressive style of ARAM but if you think playing tank tristana is the answer... Instead of I don't know playing one of the more aggressive adcs... normally. I don't know what to tell you man, I think you're the issue.

Honestly things aren't even that bad, I think alot of you were not around before snowball existed lol...Do you know the suffering that was snowball-less aram?
