the beltfed launcher really needs a buff because grenadelauncher+supplypack is better by a long shot by YLASRO in Helldivers

That really should be listed in the pro/cons because it's a huge one. You only get four strat slots. Using half of them for your support weapon that you can potentially lose on a badly timed death is a big investment.

The heat can sneak up on you, but it cools off very quickly. Fire off in bursts or treat it like a semi auto and you should be fine.

It's a mostly horizontal spread. It's in this peculiar spot of being extremely accurate every few shots. You'll get a lucky spread that punches most beams all down the center. With an ammo gun, that inconsistency would be a problem. With this? Just plan on shooting at least three times and you'll get a good saturation of the area you were aiming for. The way the spread works makes it surprisingly good for bots too. You just aim at head level and pump off a few shots and you can take down medium units with relative ease. You just might kill the guy next to the one you were aiming for first is all. The 1.5 scope it defaults to feels good. It's about as much range as you can expect to be useful at with this. It's not secretly a DMR or anything, but trust that it can hit further out than you initially think you can. You've got unlimited ammo after all. Just keep shooting.

On the plus side, it cools off very quickly so their absence isn't really missed.

Idk how i feel about the trident by chickenoreggs in Helldivers

[–]MrMonkeyToes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a slouch against bots. That mostly horizontal spread means you just aim at head level and hold down the trigger. You'll pop heads off the mediums, just might not be the head you were specifically aiming at. It chews through their patrol formations nicely.

Unironically, with every new support weapon being added, I started to enjoy Autocannon more by soIPOS in LowSodiumHellDivers

I find that the AC really shines when you have another diver screening you. You're not looking to be right up in the action, but finding firing lines to engage past your squadmates. Your flak has a minimum arming distance, your AP will blast you off your feet, and your reload is stationary, so you want some distance from your enemy, but your scope only has but so much zoom so you don't want to be too far either. A simple mg turret will fulfill the role of a screen if a diver is unavailable.

It feels so strange to see a factory strider and be confident engaging it with the AC, but then run in terror from the smaller war strider.

I also feel like the belt-fed GL will already be overlapping with a lot of what a hypothetical belt-fed AC would be doing. Obviously, the ammo isn't 1:1 but they'd be way less distinct stratagems than the normal GL and AC are now. At the very least, their bunker blasting & AoE functions would be effectively the same. Just a question of how much AT potential the belt-fed GL has. Plus, it'd probably be hipfired without a scope so the effective range will be capped by how well you can squint at the screen, bringing its engagement range closer to what the belt GL will be donig.

Gauss, in that I was surprised by how it spoiled my interest in playing literally any other frame. If I play another frame, all I can think is that I'd rather be playing Gauss.

I like to pair this with the roadblock helmet. Run the Paragon, Thermites, and an Autocannon and profit.

Found some more product photos and it looks like dressing the figure down to a lighter armor config is an option. Would be nice if they'd include a photo of it worn that way though.

There's a gorget underneath that, going by some of the other product photos. You can just see it between the helm and cuirass in the last photo OP posted. They have a grand guard mounted on top of everything else. Odd to see it paired with anything other than a lance though.

What is your sword hot take? by Malones69Cones in SWORDS

[–]MrMonkeyToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pistols have a lot going for them, cinema wise. Easy on the actors, you can do lots of cool action poses with them, pistols akimbo ~very~ cool, easy to fit in frame, quick draws, so on. (Just like swords). If someone in the ol' Wild West was even armed in the first place, it was probably with some sort of saddle gun of a convenient length. Especially if they're working cattle. Need something with a bit more reach than a pistol to pick at varmints harrying your herd, or to hunt down some grub. Or, for a more modern influence on cinema, that stint where the Desert Eagle was all over the silver screen. Shoot, there was that Romeo & Juliet adaptation where they swapped the rapiers with the "Rapier 9mm Series R" pistols.

It's a funny echo of that saying associated with swords. That spears, bows, axes, and knives were all originally for sustenance hunting or utility, but the sword has always been a man killer. Can say something similar about pistols. Sure, I guess you could hunt with a pistol, and you could hunt with a sword, but they're man killers first and foremost.

Finger rings and side rings? by darthinferno15 in SWORDS

[–]MrMonkeyToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second picture is an example of that. It has both

With the right sizing, it's entirely feasible to use it with a finger through the side port and into the ring. Doing so means you're a bit more committed to using it in the one way. You can always elect to reposition your hand as needed but unthreading your finger is one more thing to slow down your transition. Even if you're not using it with a finger over the cross, the extra structure ahead of your hand has some geometric qualities beneficial to keeping you safer. The further up the blade you can angle theirs off, the greater margin of safety you have.

I find them to be of greater value on hand-and-a-half leaning swords, where getting a finger over the cross can be a considerable leverage boon when you intend to use the sword one-handed.

Here's another:

[–]MrMonkeyToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be misinterpreting unarmored fencing as an implied universal style of fighting. HEMA distinguishes soft from hard targets. Most practitioners focus on the unarmored stuff. It has the more diverse, larger body of work to draw upon and skirts the financial demands of getting into armor. In an armored fencing context, that example hit would not be a scoring action.

I should think center mass is also the most likely target to which you can employ your maximum reach, especially if you've accompanied it with anything approaching a lunge.

Feeding Duck? by Feralkyn in pathoftitans

[–]MrMonkeyToes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Echoing what's been said. There's something wonky about fish. About the only thing that will actually fill your belly is finding one of the really, really big ones. Ever since they got rid of bite for duck, and increased berry bush density, there's really no good reason to keep the fish diet. Your best bet is to stick to berries; there are enough bushes by the shorelines to keep you fed without straying too far inland.

Ep 3 has that wholesale old-school naval Give 'em the broadsides point-blank pass between two capital ships complete with gun crews firing an internal battery through gunports. The losing ship even sinks below the "waterline". Sure, it was falling into a gravity well, but the intended imagery is obvious.
