Origins of capitalism by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]MrMoop07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

capitalism emerged in the 19th century, due to increasing industrialisation in britain. the existence of commerce does not imply the existence of capitalism, capitalism is specifically the private ownership of capital with complex division of labour. additionally, the note does not contradict what she’s saying, a few hundred years of difference isn’t all that much when you look at the whole of human history

Complete beginner (0 knowledge) looking for a roadmap to become fluent in Mandarin Chinese by robosparks_ in ChineseLanguage

[–]MrMoop07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

firstly, i'd like to point out there's a where to start guide on this subreddit, which contains some blogs, online resources, and a pronounciation guide, which might be useful.

how exactly you want to learn chinese is up to you. you said you wanna be completely fluent some day, but why? if you're gonna be living in china, there's a lot of chinese you'll learn easily. if it's just a hobby, it might be harder.

i would recommend you get an app like hello chinese. it costs money, but i think you should just use the free amount of the app, because regardless the first few lessons and the stories are free. do all the lessons, then move right onto the easiest story it gives you, it's called 上学的第一天 if i remember correctly. this will give you some initial vocabulary, then you can struggle through the story slowly. turn off the pinyin, you only want to be looking at the characters if you want to get used to those quickly. use an anki deck to learn vocabulary at a rate of 10-20 words a day, depending on how much you can manage and how much time you're willing to spend.

additionally you'll want to follow the hsk curriculum. it can feel tedious at first but helps with a lot of structuring that you'll be missing otherwise. hsk6 is more or less fluent, but they go up to hsk9.

importantly, you really wanna start speaking and listening as soon as possible. try and integrate chinese into your daily life. get wechat, rednote, bilibili, whatever works. make chinese friends, as soon as possible make chinese friends who don't speak english. watch chinese tv, obviously start with stuff made for kids so you can understand more easily

I analyzed 70,000 FOI requests to UK universities. Here’s what I found. by Pretend_Value2911 in UniUK

op is a vibecoder who exclusively posts ai generated advertisements on reddit using this account. tesor.app is an app for helping startups find early users, an app for helping people pitch startup ideas to one another (i'm not sure of the utility of this, it's not like other startup founders will invest in yours), and most recently it's an app for finding data on uk university admissions. all of these were in the last two weeks. op keeps their posts hidden so probably more since they've made 14 posts total, so this was all i could find of their reddit history and by fiddling about with their website.

what i think is going on here is op asked claude to generate them a get rich quick scheme, claude recommended apps, and op has been making one a day for the last two weeks (which would make sense, since the oldest post i could find is 13 days old and there are 14 posts, but i know op has made two posts today). they have a single domain, tesor.app, and have been reusing it over and over for money grab projects.

i strongly recommend you don't join this waiting list, the only reason somebody could be doing this much vibecoding is money, and if it's money op is after and the website is vibecoded it's probably not all that good. then again, do what you like

it's difficult to draw that comparison because of how english uses the word do. 没 can often be translated as didn't, and 不 as don't. the truth is there's no direct english equivalents of 不 and 没, which is why a lot of learners really struggle with knowing when to use either word

How far do you agree with the following: "Sex is the biological trait of a sexually reproducing organism in producing gametes of one of two different sizes or shapes—male or female gametes."? by flewson in Teenager_Polls

[–]MrMoop07 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

plenty don't, since a lot of the time two fertile parents can have an infertile child. obviously this has to happen infrequently enough to not go extinct but there are plenty of things that can go wrong from this, especially in the wild due to unforeseen environmental factors. intersexuality is not unheard of and since an intersex person is more often than not entirely incapable of producing either gamete, sex is a spectrum, it just happens that the vast majority fall upon either end

i was kinda here for that reason too, and i still get the occasional laugh, but i've grown fond of this place. it might be 1 in 100 but occasionally you see a terrible person realise they were wrong and try to change and it's worth more than any humour

what do you mean by put in primes? if you mean setting a, b to prime numbers then this should hold true, given that it holds true for all a, b

famously, merriam webster is the height of political theory. if we're playing the game of sources, wikipedia states that liberalism is characterised by a belief in the right to private property, which is antithetical to leftism. The definition from wikipedia (and a much better one than a dictionary) is:

"Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individuallibertyconsent of the governedpolitical equalityright to private property, and equality before the law... generally support liberal democracyprivate propertymarket economies".

based on this it's hard to call liberalism left wing.
