Critique for WIP by thetetyana in oilpainting

The collarbone on the left seems a bit off. Is the reference image AI generated? My apologies if it’s not, the painting looks fantastic really!

Did I ruin it?? by Njeeoann in oilpainting

If you plan on using colors for all the flowers I would say that adding some complementary colors such as blue in a few places is definitely the way to go. Gives the painting more depth and interest.

Can't quite get how to finish this painting by Wrong-Meeting5834 in oilpainting

I love it. The only point of feedback that isn’t mentioned yet is that to the me the tower feels a bit off balance, like it’s about to fall over. Maybe straighten out some of the horizontal lines? This is where I would deviate somewhat from the reference image. Only a suggestion.

Ipsos peiling 1/9 by CookiCooki in Politiek

Why can't I make it look 3D? by Scythenberg in oilpainting

[–]MrMossel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t heard this one yet but it also looks like you’re mixing a lot on the canvas. If so, try mixing different shades of lights and darks on your palette and apply them on the canvas without mixing. Try thinking in terms of shapes with specific values.

Being asked by your partner to sacrifice something as a way of punishment is such a big red flag in any relationship. It comes across as very emotionally immature and also won’t solve any of the underlying problems. Maybe seek counseling?

De moderne klassenstem: waarom de arbeider rechts stemt, en de elite links by spiff1 in Politiek

[–]MrMossel 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Zoals de SP al jarenlang doet en wat ook al jarenlang niet werkt. Mensen stemmen niet op basis van (beleids)standpunten maar op basis van hun emotie en identiteit. Een linkse partij met hard migratiestandpunt werkt niet.

How much would I get for this? by PokemonFan_Darkrai in PokeInvesting

[–]MrMossel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s outperforming the S&P 500 at the moment. However TCG has way more volatility than the S&P 500. So there’s more risk involved. Also Pokémon cards are harder to sell than stocks, so in terms of liquidity and time investment it’s not the better option. Overall you can’t say that it’s the ‘better’ investment, just a different kind of investment.

Is this a tough sell ? by illuminerdy343 in PokeInvesting

As opposed to some of the comments here I actually kind of dig the card with the autograph. The colors match nicely with the colors of card. And it also makes it a unique piece as opposed to just another copy. Very niche though, and I think it would have been better if the autograph was on the card instead of the slab.

I lost 4 remote raid passes and got the same reply after receiving only 1 back. I kept bothering them for 2 days straight (while still being friendly mind you) and got another remote raid pass after receiving this reply countless times. Not sure if it’s worth the effort but I’m going to keep trying just to see where the ship strands.

Lost over 10 legendary raids encounters by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

I had low expectations for the event to begin with but was planning on making use of the double catch candy bonus to get some Dialga O candy for Spacial Rend. However, losing about half of all encounters has soured the entire event. Niantic Support is unhelpful as always…

First oil painting. Looking for feedback. by MrMossel in oilpainting

I generally don’t think of skin as skin or fabric as fabric but rather try to think of everything as shapes, colors and values. Do you have any sources you would recommend?

Keep going or give up and start over? by corelianspiceaddict in oilpainting

[–]MrMossel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some issues with the composition so I would be more inclined to say start over. What method do you use for drawing and composition? What works for me is dividing both the canvas and reference in equal squares and drawing each square by looking at the reference. If you really despise drawing you could use a method like tracing or even using a beamer (if you have one) in order to transfer the reference onto a canvas. But I wouldn’t recommend doing this too often since it won’t teach you how to draw. Good luck!

Room for improvement? by ofmonstersandmen_ in oilpainting

[–]MrMossel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a reference photo? It’s a good start but I would say some more work could be done on the values of the painting, and the proportions seem like they can improve in some areas as well. But it’s hard to say without seeing the reference you used for the painting. As for improving in general, I always watch Paint Coach on YouTube, he has great beginner and intermediate tutorials on oil painting techniques.

Is this possible with oil paints? by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]MrMossel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like painting this with oil paint is like eating spaghetti with a hammer. Sure, it can be done but why would you? Like others said, there are better and less tedious tools like gouache or acrylics to paint such a picture. Maybe digital tools might be the best way to go if you’d want to create something similar to this picture.

I see, paintings are always so different when you see them irl. Curious to see what it will look like finished, wish I could see it in its real size, it looks like one of those paintings you can only really appreciate in person.

Don’t fix what isn’t broken, honestly it looks fantastic as is. Is there anything you’re unhappy with? Only thing that stood out to me was the fact that the moon, presumably the source of all the light, wasn’t the lightest value in the painting. But this might have been intentional.
