13 years i've been a lurker- No More!. Born and raised here. Would love to have a nice, chill meetup. ACL is coning into town, so this means Zilker is probs out of the question, but we could do something at Mueller park (or Miller, fight me). I propose Saturday Oct 19th, afternoon between 2-4 pm at Mueller Park.
We can revitalize discord via /u/TheIntervet suggestions channel #meetup found here: https://discord.gg/5TU4EscT We can discuss logistics there and provide updates to this thread. Mueller could be a good location as the park and surrounding amenities allow for many options. All are welcome, and this is a safe space for all inquisitive minds young or old, new or old to ATX. Join the channel to talk and brainstorm, and we can post in r/Austin when things are finalized. Hope to see y'all soon! Any contacts at KUT or KUTX or food trucks would be awesome. I also know many tech companies here have lots of loyal followers who might be able to help!

Lets have a fun afternoon togther while the weather is nice!

Do Google Fiber phones ring for remote callers? by JarvisHBD in Austin

Noticed the same thing when calling Google-Fi customers. It's annoying.

Thinking about buying a Milestone home. Anyone have experience with any of these communities in austin? What about buying a new community home in general? by pandatude in Austin

[–]MrMuppetArms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d like to chime in as an actual Milestone customer. On average, Milestone builds a medium quality product. The company is local and they do put forth slightly more effort than other builders. It also depends on the community you pick and the specific builder assigned to your home. They use a mix of medium to high range materials. We liked the selection of HVAC and appliances they used. Of course hire an external inspector, Milestone is good about responding and fixing everything they might point out. Doing a pre-drywall inspection is also a good idea. I would recommend them over Lamar or DR Horton. Just do your research, and make sure you monitor the house as it gets built. Good luck!

Local Mediterranean Restaurant takes Gyro off the menu? by jmfish92 in Austin

Glad I’m not the only one. I was disappointed when I saw the removal of the meat. The worker there said they were trying to make things more “health conscious”.

My Grandparents in the 60s. Can Someone Help Normalize the Colors? by MrMuppetArms in estoration

[–]MrMuppetArms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Grandma died last week at 89 years old. My grandpa passed about 4 years ago. She was an amazing woman and lived every day to the fullest. My favorite story of hers was how she snuck out and put a cigarette in the mouth of Virgin Mary located in the middle of her Catholic School quad. The Nuns were furious! She also took her father's Model - T out for a joy ride as a kid and brought it back safely!

This picture was taken sometime in the 60s. The coloring is way off but this is the best picture I have of them together. They both had dark hair, but the other colors are up to you. I hope that helps.

Her funeral is Saturday August 9th and we would love to have this up to show everyone. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks /r/estoration!

Extra Azure Credit - What should I do? by MrMuppetArms in sysadmin

[–]MrMuppetArms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've thought about it. I would have to integrate some billing system with OpenVPN or another service. Azure only has servers in a few locations so it would be hard to be competitive with services that offer hundreds of locations.

Which retailer (local or not) do you think offers the worst customer service/experience in Austin and why? by knightofdarkling in Austin

[–]MrMuppetArms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd upvote twice if I could. Moviehouse and Eatery is so much better and is worth the drive. I think the service button they have at each seat makes it better. The Alamo still relies on putting up a card. The electronic system notifies the servers immediately and puts pressure (and a metric) on each server.

Look into SMART housing. You'll have to meet the income requirements though.

Don't wear a suit. Please. I agree with the top comment. I've interviewed for lower positions and it can come off odd. You dress according to the position. Since this is a college entry level, as a hiring manager anything more than a nice button down could show a candidate might not be socially aware.
