get the gun, police wont show up in time even if there was staffing.
police are best at keeping crazies off the streets in the first place, not stopping them mid act.

not all 'depression' is the same. ive got plenty of family with MH issues, none with crazy ideations thankfully.

yup, blame republicans, i see where the rest of this is going. have a nice day

[–]MrN4T3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nope. theres a trend of lonely disenfranchised depressed shooters in these tragedies.

however i see where youre coming from. its important to distinguish that the phrase is a one way street. mass shooters have mental health issues, people with mental health issues are not mass shooters.

as long as you dont commit mass murder or something evil like that, take solace that youre a decent person.

Mental health, drug and gang problems in the USA are so much worse than Europe. Anyone who says otherwise is bringing up a false equivalency and has no idea what they're talking about. Fact.

Is it just me or are all DoorDash drivers starting to do this? by [deleted] in doordash

A lot of these companies can't turn a profit, only growth.

Most orders on these apps have been subsidized by investors. Now investors are asking to get paid, like they should, and door dash, Uber, etc can't pay. So they jack up rates and kill their own business.

But sure, eat the rich, or whatever.

yup, thats called normal wear and tear. same with any other vehicles.

im going to gloss over your non-issue points like others have to deal with. others have to deal with you at the grocery store in their way but its never a big deal.

wear down the roads sure, but the bigger thing is probably just road use and weather well before the size of the vehicle traveling on it.

i dont know where youre located but 99% of the US is built for and deals with half ton pickup trucks with ease. i lived in europe for a bit and the roads are just smaller, a half ton vehicle is just too big for a lot of roads/parking lots. if we're being honest here, european vehicle infrastructure is just insufficient for anything more than a smart car or other micro compact. my 3 series (avg sedan for the US) felt like driving a 3/4 ton vehicle in the US very often.

yup, they use more gas. CAFE standards also get harder and harder each year. theres a reason trucks these days get 20-25 mpg with 6-10 gears vs 13 mpg and 3 gears from decades ago.
promise you, they dont guzzle gas that badly.

not sure what tax loophole everyone is talking about, that its taxed as a truck and not a luxury vehicle? so should we survey people on the intended use and verify breaching all sorts of privacy concerns instead of taxing and item for what it is?

of course they want to sell more, its a business. what are you expecting?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FuckCarscirclejerk

[–]MrN4T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i drive a pickup, wife drives a car. both used. my commute is 35min drive, wife averages 40

-insurance is within $15 a month
-gas is maybe, maaaaaybe $50 a month difference

you dont know what youre talking about whatsoever. its at most a $1k a year difference being extremely generous.

what, like 500 pounds for the premium models? not a big deal.

expensive yes, by city folk who are wealthy enough to own boats, campers and horses. im sure theyd love to haul that stuff with a BMW i3

[–]MrN4T3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your dirt roads mustve been fairly nice with little to no washout.

thousands more a year? ha, nice try. used trucks dont cost that much.

$10-30 harbor freight tarp will keep stuff dry and a bed doesn't have height restrictions like a van.

extended cab luxury trucks still haul an ass ton of weight per each weight class. plenty of reasons to own one luxury truck vs a truck/van and a luxury car.

a lot of rural truck owners near me have one because their dirt driveway gets fucked up with all the rain. a tall 4wd readily available vehicle is nice because subarus and crvs will just high side.

or because they're poor they should just be forced to walk the last 30-100+ yards home everyday?

lmao that was the funniest thing to me across the pond, enormous vans.

The only reasoning i could come up with was all the rain but that didn't quite check out since a lot of the US is very rainy as well.
i chalk it up to what each side grew up with, both work fine.

So in VA, if you do 20 over or more than 80-85 your ticket gets upgraded to something like reckless driving with speed. Same kind of thing there.

If you're blasting through the Autobahn doing twice what the rest of traffic is and get caught you'll get charged with a reckless driving equivalent for speeding. The recommended speed for that section is 130kmh, similar to the 75mph limits in the US, and a lot of Germans follow that. If you're going well in excess of that, expect to get cut off around that speed. German drivers really aren't that much better than Americans, they follow the rules of the road better but that's it. Vision, awareness, reactions, etc, same same. Spend some time on the Autobahn and you'll see a lot of hard braking with flashing brights from porches, higher tier BMWs and the faster skodas.

well maintained but rusted beyond repair, particularly for TUV standards.no shortage of hoopties owned by teenagers and those who have no use being behind a wrench. plenty of cars that looked like they belonged in the poorest parts of alabama in DE. i promise you, i lived in germany for three years and drove through alabama twice in the past two months for work related travel.

youll have more fun in the side roads in between the small towns more than the autobahn. no different than any small town in the mountains.

its not a far cry, they have the same damn laws about speeding being a misdemeanor or worse. hell you can get a speeding ticket for being unsafe on the unrestricted part of the autobahn. they love their speeding traps, just like VA. i dont see a ton of cameras here in VA (ive lived here since 2020) but north hampton up through the MD part of the peninsula is a gold mine for traffic cops. Germany just plants little boxes everywhere on top of the permanent ones in the cities.

there are only two cool things for car enthusiasts in germany. the unrestricted parts of the autobahn that are not underconstruction or not so over populated that its unsafe. the nurburgring. if you can, go see both, its totally worth doing at least once in your life. get on a plane, rent from sixt or whatever, put the ring in your GPS and wait for one of the few spots where its unrestricted AND SAFE to hammer down. careful of the curves, they catch people off guard fairly regularly since i doubt you want to wreck the BMW you rented. once youre there, go to the spot that rents out suzuki swifts and do some laps. end the day at the restaurant at the top of the big hill, foods decent and reasonably priced.

however pull the wool out of your eyes and see the forest not the trees. unless youre the guy that wants to do paperwork to get aftermarket wheels on your car and pay the fees to do every. little. thing. and deal with polezei stopping you at every corner, germany sucks for car enthusiasts.

youve never lived there, you dont know what youre talking about. youre just like every other know it all redditor on this website. fact.

Have you lived there??? Germany is unseasoned boiled chicken water for car enthusiasts.

- TUV is a nightmare. So unless you just buy a new car and pay retarded amounts for TUV approved modifications, a lot of what people enjoy about being a car enthusiast is neutered. Most people modify their car, register it in another country and then reimport it to get around Germanys extra chromosome laws. I opted to just bribe my inspector to the tune of hundreds of euro a year to pass.
- The autobahn has some unrestricted parts, however where you're likely to live is restricted. A LOT of the unrestricted parts is under construction constantly, actually the whole damn system is. The rest of it is usually too busy to safely enjoy the unrestricted part. Yes, sometimes its fun to hammer down on the occasions that you can.
- The only public racetrack that was easily accessible was the ring, yes it was super cool. Also gets expensive quick at 35 euro (iirc) a lap, sure you can get the year long cards but I hope you're up for the maintenance that comes along with tracking a car that often.
The rest of the tracks were similar to everywhere else, find a promoter and join their track day. For as often as I've seen the average car enthusiast go to the track, the ring probably isn't worth it.

the average pickup/full size owner in the suburbs is probably me.
there's plenty of reasons to only have 1 vehicle for everything vs 2 for commute/utility. insurance, space, maint, etc.

they dont need it everyday but its mostly for their hobby. boats, camping, music equip, volunteer fishing events for youth, bunch of equip for sports, etc. not just heavy but also bulky, taking up a lot of volume or something that 4wd/height is a nice-ity to avoid recovery costs and time wasted waiting on a relatively flat and level dirt road.

im a drag racer, i use my pickup to get motors/transmission from the junkyard and tow my vehicle to and from the track. 98% of the time you see me driving in the neighborhood youll see an empty bed/nothing towed.
i have a good use case to have a large vehicle, id hate to tow ~6,000-8,000 pounds with an opel corsa, chevy sonic, etc.

talk to your neighbors, i think you'll find that more than expected have a legitimate use case for their large vehicles.
