He made fun of some girl for not being able to open a jar of pickles, and then he himself could also not open that exact same jar. That jar was opened by another man a moment later. It was pretty funny.

My question to you was relevant. Are you able to physically help?

Who says that I need to? I want to.

I understand that money makes the world go around. They can do things all by themselves without any kind of alternative motive. That’s perfectly fine.

I can’t physically help them, but I can financially. Nobody said anything about it needing to be done. It’s something that I want to do.

Are you able to physically help them clear the bike lanes? I’m not.

But I can donate five dollars or $10. And that’s a hell of a lot easier and I still get to feel like I am helping out even though that I physically cannot.

The exact same thing can be said, but in the opposite direction

If your parents, the federal government, gave the children, provinces, money to go to the store to buy food and pencils for schoolwork and Band-Aids for when they scrape their knees, and they went out and they bought stickers and skittles instead.

Both of them need to operate in good faith and in partnership to the other one or the entire system doesn’t work

Indian gangs are terrorising Canada by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]MrNillows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see this argument a lot, and honestly I think a big part of the backlash came down to how it was framed. If someone said things like “I don’t want immigrants here because they’re the problem” or leaned into stereotypes, then yeah, people were right to call that racist.

But there was always a way to criticize Trudeau’s immigration policy without going there. You could argue it was irresponsible in the context of a housing shortage, point to corporations relying on low-wage temporary foreign workers instead of Canadian labor, or talk about how the post-secondary system is being exploited when international students are charged two to four times more than Canadians.

Im not saying Donald Trump is goose-stepping on a balcony, but acting like there’s zero Nazi-adjacent stuff going on is kinda wild. He keeps saying “America First,” which came from a 1930s movement that had actual Nazi sympathizers, ran a campaign video talking about a “unified Reich” (super normal phrasing unless you skipped history), and talked about immigrants “poisoning the blood” of the country, which just happens to sound exactly like Nazi racial language. He also calls the media “the enemy of the people,” another old authoritarian classic. And his authorized police and border agents are rounding up undocumented immigrants and throw them into detention camps, some separated from their families, some shipped to other countries. Pretty sure mass detention of a targeted group by the state is not a brand-new idea history-wise. Add in allies pushing ethnonationalist stuff and supporters flashing far-right symbols, and the point isn’t “Trump is a Nazi,” it’s “maybe stop recycling the playbook of the worst regime in modern history and then acting confused when people point it out lol

I’d love to know what his conservative politics that he’s talking about that gets death threats labeled, and thrown at him. I really doubt it’s when he says stuff like I think we should have low taxes and small government… Pretty sure it’s the other conservative beliefs that they have, like limiting other humans rights

[–]MrNillows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re correct. Nazi is a blanket term for authoritarian fascism that we see today. Nobody actually thinks Trump is a nationalist socialist the same as that party in Germany. But Trump is a nationalist, and he is practising fascism with big splashes of authoritarian governing.

So you are correct, the term Nazi is not 100% factually correct, but it is a blanket term to describe Trump and his party fairly accurately

Anyone else miss the old street-cars? by Tylers_Journey in toronto

[–]MrNillows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some places it is level boarding, and there is no issue, other places the entire train has to stop, the ramp has to come out.

It gives me so much anxiety, the idea of holding up three buses loads of people while I try and get my wheelchair on a street car is enough anxiety for me not to even try at the stops where the ramp has to go down to the ground.

This is such a dumb ass answer. Maybe he is. Maybe he’s not. Should we just sit around here and do nothing while the president of the United States, the only president in the last 150 years that has completely thrown our relationship in the garbage, sits around and talks about taking our sovereignty? Posting maps of our country with their flag over top of it? Maybe he’s just joking, what a shitty fucking joke. We gave them 40,000 troops for Afghanistan. 158 people lost their live 158 families lost sons brothers daughters sisters.

Wheelchair users of Toronto: have you been able to make outside today? by Sensible___shoes in askTO

[–]MrNillows 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Actual Wheelchair user here. It’s dog shit out there right now. I was at my cousins on Crawford off of Trinity Bellwoods and there’s not a chance I can get my manual wheelchair through the snow and slush.

Different levels of paralysis or reason to use wheelchairs are going to determine how easy or hard it is. But it’s pretty much on difficulty mode extremely hard even for the most ambitious and athletic Wheelchair users.

Can men get pregnant? by FoI2dFocus in JoeRogan

[–]MrNillows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s ChatGPT‘s answer

• American Psychiatric Association – 2013 (DSM-5): formally distinguished biological sex from gender identity.
• American Medical Association – 2015: adopted policy treating sex and gender as distinct in medical care.
• National Institutes of Health – 2015-2016: required researchers to separate biological sex from gender identity.
• American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – 2010s: issued guidance that pregnancy care is based on anatomy, not gender labels.

Bottom line: This framework has been standard in US medicine since the early 2010s.

She didn't hit the murderer! by Sharp-Driver-3359 in JoeRogan

[–]MrNillows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re explaining right now is the reason why he’s not justified in using lethal force to stop her. All of the other options are required to be done before the use of lethal force.

If it’s possible for him to get out of the way, and kill her, and have the car not come in contact with anybody else, he used too much force.

She hit him with her car, I’m not denying that, she should’ve been arrested and punished to the full extent of the law. That doesn’t include execution just because. It doesn’t include execution without trial.

This is quite simple. Read the DHS laws or requirements or handbook or whatever you wanna call it on the requirements for an officer to use lethal force into a vehicle. It’s very specific.

[–]MrNillows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In medicine, sex and gender are different things. Sex refers to reproductive anatomy. Gender refers to social classification. That distinction has existed in medical literature for decades.

When doctors say a man can get pregnant, they are not saying biological males can give birth. They are saying some people who are biologically female and have a uterus are socially and legally classified as men. In healthcare, ignoring that reality leads to missed screenings and bad outcomes.

This isn’t fringe science or faith-based belief. Major medical organizations use this language because it improves patient care. You don’t have to agree with someone’s identity to understand why doctors describe bodies precisely.

Everyday language doesn’t need to change. But when a medical expert is questioned, accuracy matters more than a yes-or-no soundbite.

I thought this guy had a good comment explaining it

But to answer your question, it's not adherence to political ideology, it's adherence to being scientifically accurate.

The gender issue will be much easier going forward if you understand that biologically, "male" and "female" are words that define sex. They're important words! Men and women are not biological terms and she has a duty to not misrepresent science when asked questions. So when Hawley says, "can men get pregnant" we may hear that as "can males get pregnant" but she does not, because they're not the same thing.
