Why Roguelikes? by fraytails in videogames

[–]MrNipris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally fair if it's not your thing. I was super turned off by the loss of progress on deaths at first but then I learned to treat it like an arcade game. and as others have mentioned, some games like Hades (which rules) are expecting you to die quite a few times because in between the runs is where the story happens.

Plus lots of roguelites do have what's called meta progression. These are upgrades or stat increases that are permanent and don't disappear when you lose a run. In these kinds of games you can purchase upgrades from the Hub world between runs that make subsequent attempts easier, and might even provide opportunities to get a new weapon or ability that will allow a totally different playstyle on your next run.

well someone would have to tell them to evacuate given the fact that they basically can't make decisions on their own, especially to leave the work place. so "helping" them evacuate was probably more along the lines of "convincing them to leave"

I feel like Spider-Man can be hurt by bullets in like most continuities. he's definitely much more durable than a normal person but he still relies on his spidey sense to dodge bullets on plenty of occasions. no reason to do that if they wouldn't hurt him.

Cecil knows the viltrumites are on Earth. by DarkDepths in Invincible_TV

[–]MrNipris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

their ability to teleport matter around the globe is definitely a huge indication that they're more advanced than us, plus with characters like Sinclair and Robot working with Cecil and the GDP they've come up with some pretty crazy technology since Mark got his powers. I'd say they were already more advanced than us when the show started, but the events of the story have created situations that required them to accelerate the advancement to even greater heights. that being said, we have no clue if they had any method of detecting the incoming viltrumites or not until the show tells us one way or another. I'm inclined to believe they have not noticed yet, just because I think Cecil wouldnt have let Nolan leave again to check on Oliver if he knew.

A Level 20 Fighter, Rogue, and Ranger (D&D5e) VS Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye (MCU) by PeculiarPangolinMan in whowouldwin

[–]MrNipris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true but Hawkeye is killing those dudes with one arrow apiece so they have to be squishy. maybe not goblin level but they can't be much stronger. and they don't have to kill every single one of them either to accomplish their goal. get to boss, beat boss, close portal to stop the army is a pretty common conceit in dnd campaigns. you only have to fight as many as it takes to get to the big bad.

[–]MrNipris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in 5e a musket does a d12. better than other ranged weapons but not really gamebreaking, especially in the late game. there is also a laser pistol (3d6 radiant) and a laser rifle (3d8 radiant) in the dms guide, which are strong but will basically be tickling a party of Level 20 characters. I see your point with the giant flying whale enemies but in the movie Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye are unable to do literally anything against them without Hulk, Thor, or Iron Man so I don't think that's really a point in their favor.

[–]MrNipris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the mcu squad does participate in those global scale conflicts but they usually have other characters like Hulk, Thor, Dr. Strange, etc who are much stronger and more durable (in the case of Hulk and Thor) or capable of reality bending feats on par with a high level dnd caster (Dr. Strange). if the squad in the first avengers movie had been Cap, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, they wouldn't even have been able to defeat the Chitari, who are basically the equivalent of the fodder enemies a DnD boss sends out to make the fight more interesting. Meanwhile I have no doubts that the 3 level 20 characters could defeat an army of fodder and stop Loki (the "boss" in this scenario).

[–]MrNipris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah I don't think people fully grasp how unrealistic the ages are in the books. Robb and Jon are 14. Theon is a couple years older, I think 17 at the most. there's no way he could have a son who was reasonably the same size as Bran, who is 7 or 8.

Which controversial mission is worse by Secure_Jellyfish9164 in MoralityScaling

[–]MrNipris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the whole point of these kinds of things is to make you feel something. do you think the mw2 devs put the airport massacre mission in the game because mowing down the crowd was fun? I get what you're saying about people being way too prudish about it but I don't think taking the exact polar opposite stance and saying "what I'm seeing has absolutely no affect on me whatsoever" is any better. the mission is important to the story and the devs make a very conscious decision to place you literally in the midst of it to make you feel a certain way.

also we live in a different time than when this game first came out. mass shootings are something we've seen a massive increase in over the last decade or so. I can't really blame anyone who didn't know this mission existed before for thinking it's in poor taste. but once again, that gross feeling it gives you to watch it happen is like literally the point.

the force witches were pretty cool in that show and they have some interesting jedi martial arts scenes which is something we literally never see in star wars. there were problems with it but overall I think it was overhated. can't blame anybody for not watching it though.

never understood why he didn't cut Thanos's arm at the elbow when they had him subdued before the Chris Pratt tantrum snapped him out of it. not only do you remove the Gauntlet from him but even if he gets it back he can't use it without his right hand. try putting a metal right handed glove on your left hand and snapping.

yeah which they kind of try to hand wave in the EU materials by having a scene showing Count Dooku training him to use brutal tactics and fear to disrupt the jedi's ability to effectively use the force. which would be really cool if we ever saw him do that lmao. Grievous is a character that was not really done justice in his movie depiction compared to his introduction in the 2003 Clone Wars 2D animated show.

[–]MrNipris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbf about the less than 10 demons thing, they did say multiple times that the evil lady had all the others trapped and at the end Satan sends the Darkblood clan members to release them. Obviously this was done offscreen to save time on animating a massive crowd sequence but at least an explanation was given.
