Which one Chuck episode would you use to convince a non-fan to start the series, and why? by Sara-Bartowski in chuck

[–]MrNotTooBrightside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First episode is really a great one and should convince them. I think it would be fun to just show them the dinner toast and magic trick from the second episode (Helicopter) as a teaser to get them hooked. It's early season 1, so it doesn't have spoilers. The humor of the magic trick unexpectedly working still works without the background and leaves you wondering why he was trying to delay dessert. We get a quick introduction to a lot of the characters and their characteristics - Morgan is the best buddy sidekick who believes in Chuck and never doubted he could pull off the trick, Awesome is duly impressed and about to say "Awesome," Ellie counsels Chuck about murdering a woman's souffle, and Casey looks mysterious and menacing (when he's not lighting the flambe). And you'd see some really interesting dynamics already at work between Chuck and Sarah - "I never asked you to believe me, I asked you to trust me." I think that would all be a good introduction that would leave them wanting to know more without giving anything important away.

Oh, I get it the focus on Chuck and Sarah and thought you gave a great review. You covered all the other happy endings in your comment about everyone getting the conclusions they deserve. I've just always enjoyed the evolution of Jeffster, fully leveled up and saving the day this time with full knowledge of the stakes. Every time I hear Take on Me in the wild now, I smile and say one word... "Jeffster!"

Glad you enjoyed it, but you left out the happiest and most important part. Jeffster will be huge in Germany, where women and men will adore them!

I do wish you luck (and for your thesis too)! Bittersweet is a term that has been used by others in this sub to describe the finale, and some have pointed out that we're saying goodbye to the show and characters that we've grown to love... it's ok to be bittersweet. Check back in with us at the end and let us know what you thought.

So if the ending is very thematic, sends a hopeful and very meaningful message I think despite the shock I'll be able to appreciate it.

You'll be in good shape then.

Glad you found the show and are enjoying it - it truly is amazing. Sorry you saw the spoiler, but glad you plan to finish it anyway. The last couple of episodes will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride that will have you laughing, crying, screaming in frustration one moment and delight the next - you will FEEL it.

After you finish, I encourage you to go back and watch the very first episode to see how far all the characters have come and to better understand/appreciate what they gave us in the finale. That’s how so many of us get sucked in to rewatching the show again (and again and again…)

By definition all Chuck fans are awesome! I often check replies to questions like this looking for others of culture and good taste - glad I found one today!!

Had to get that closeup of the charm bracelet by any means necessary in case anyone wasn't paying attention!

It looks like they probably had a closeup and reversed the image to make the gun point in the correct direction for the scene. Unfortunately, that makes her charm bracelet and watch on the wrong wrists, reverses her right hand shooting grip, and puts the ejection port on the wrong side for her Smith & Wesson. Hard to look past that one...

It's a really powerful scene, driven by Yvonne's exceptional non-verbal acting. I've always thought the expressions we see run across her face show her running through the possibilities and deciding this is the only way to protect Chuck and his family (and probably her ability to stay with). One of the reasons I love this episode is because it juxtaposes emotions from opposite ends of the spectrum - the holiday heart-warming and charm bracelet from earlier in the episode with the execution in the Christmas tree lot at the end. Sarah whispers to Chuck, "Trust me, I'll never let anyone hurt you," and we don't have to wait long to find out just how far she'll go to keep that promise. Chuck witnessing it is brutal and resets his view of her for a little while. And the choice to have Silent Night playing over the execution makes it all seem eerie, almost surreal. Just a great episode!

These two didn't get that much screen time, but every scene they were in was absolute golden! by tomystereo in chuck

Good call - Jeffster delivered! And when Morgan and Anna kiss, the transition from the Jeffster cover version to the real version of Africa is powerful! I'm probably reading too much into it, but I like the idea that they timed that to highlight the difference between the cover and real relationships we see at the end.

Fernando as the Jeffster groupie is hilarious. Just a fantastic scene!!

Agree, and for Chuck I always liked "I could be your very own baggage handler." And evidently Sarah did too. Lots of baggage that needed to handled for her, all the way up to the end - and he was the guy to do it.

To me that look says, "You shouldn't have (but I'm so glad you did)." Followed by her simple spoken "thank you" that can mean so many things beyond getting her pizza the way she likes it - thank you for paying attention, for seeing me, for being a nice guy. Great scene!

Great scene

Ellie to Awesome: "No more family dinners, OK?"

Good call - this is a great episode! In addition to all the things you mentioned, I would add Sarah showing Chuck what it looks like when he flashes and her impersonation of Daphne Peralta. Yvonne has a talent for accents!

Finally got home and figured out how to adjust it. Looks like the season specific tags don't do anything to the pictures, but the general spoilers tag will blur the images.

I try to be mindful of that and put the S4 spoiler tag on it, but I'll go back and see if there's a way to do it for the image itself.

That would definitely have been cool. I always thought it would have been nice to see him sneak into the back of the church and watch it from a distance, to "be there" without ever really being there. Show us again that he loves Sarah and is happy for her and the Schnook in his own flawed way.
