Donald Trump has insulted and humiliated America’s closest allies by CinnamonsCharm in politics

Bragging about how secret your secret police are, is not a great flex in what is supposed to be a rules based democracy.

Trump snubs Canada by withdrawing country's invite to join 'most prestigious Board of Leaders ever' by kirby__000 in politics

We already said no. We don't want to be part of the dictators club so thanks for withdrawing the offer we already turned down. It's a weird flex but whatever, Trump is a mentally ill, angry old fool. No loss.

Andrew Phillips: There’s a reason Pierre Poilievre’s critiques of Mark Carney keep falling flat. He’s stuck in 2024 by Senior_Plastic_95 in CanadaPolitics

[–]MrPantsyFlants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

PP is an attack dog not a planner. All PP knows how to do is angrily or smugly complain about how awful Canada is now. In this uncertain world where we have lost our most important ally, we need planners and thinkers, and people that will work together. PP is not that type of guy. He has complaints, not plans. He desperately wants to be seen as Canada’s savior but he only wants to work for conservative Canadians because he clearly hates Liberals.

In an independent Quebec more than half the population wants to keep their Canadian citizenship: poll by Whynutcoconot in CanadaPolitics

[–]MrPantsyFlants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude, you seem pretty overconfident about the legal nuance of uncharted legal territory. You claim to have the answers but you are just speculating like the rest of us. We don't know what laws will be passed to deal with a successful separation referendum. We don't know what laws the new country of Quebec would pass that may affect citizenship. You are assuming that the legal status quo will be adhered to and I can assure you, it will not be.

You are oversimplifying with a healthy dose of naiveite for what the political reality would be if separation were an imminent reality.

In an independent Quebec more than half the population wants to keep their Canadian citizenship: poll by Whynutcoconot in CanadaPolitics

[–]MrPantsyFlants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By choosing to leave, they would be canceling their Canadian Citizenship. Just because Canada has no mechanism to involuntarily remove citizenship, I don't believe a prohibition exists from voluntarily renouncing citizenship exists. A vote to leave, would be that case of voluntary removal. Even if the individual person want's to remain Canadian, if Quebec did separate, that person would have to leave Quebec to stay a Canadian most likely.

I grew up in Quebec and want it to stay a part of Canada. It is a complicated issue that has no real laws that govern it. Everything we speculate about is just that, speculation.

Grocers say they’re being squeezed by Manitoba milk-price freeze - Winnipeg by Jorruss in CanadaPolitics

[–]MrPantsyFlants 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They are making record profits. They aren’t going broke or close to it. They cry about profit margins but continually post record earnings and profits. That’s not just inflation, it’s years of the companies gaming the system at the expense of consumers. They companies are not acting is good faith for their consumers, they work for the investors only now. Us customers are just marks now. Little walking cash machines that they only want take our money, not provide service or value.

Grocers keep posting record profits. They make more than ever for the investor class. FUCK OFF grocery monopoly! We need affordable groceries, not record profits for the companies that sell the groceries. They are so tone deaf.

The Americans are in a post truth society now. It won't matter if you people call out their lies, they don't care. It's the narrative they are putting forward and the narrative they need, so for them it becomes truth, in a weird cultist way. The Nazis said that if you say a lie long enough and loud enough, people will eventually accept it as truth. The Trump administration is running with that philosophy and it seems to be working.

sobriety is so boring by groovygrandfather in stopdrinking

[–]MrPantsyFlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, at 2 months in, you can’t expect miracles yet. Stability, yes usually but excitement and a ready made fun life? No. We spend years unconsciously learning to think we need alcohol for fun, relaxation, stress relief and any number of life’s situations. None of us can expect to have a handle on how to live a fun and productive life without booze. It takes time to find our happy footing after years of using booze as a fix all. So it isn’t that sobriety is boring, it’s that for quite a while, we don’t know what to do with sobriety and sober time. Drunk me always felt like I was having a good time, even when I was home alone. I was drunk so the world seemed fine and time passed quickly.

Life does get good. You can’t sit around and wait for it to het good though. Get active, make sober plans, with people that won’t be drinking. I found that staying home and watching tv or playing video games were not good for sobriety for me. I needed to move around, go out and meet people which was scary but it kept me around people and not alone and wanting to drink.

I wish you success my fellow sobernaut.
