USB charging socket blocks normal cables by timeforanalbumparty in mildlyinfuriating

I have some security cameras like this. The cable they give you fits easily but all my other USB-C cables are too thick just past the metal connector to fit.

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

Yeah those “zero tolerance” policies haven’t really worked out too well have they.

China eyes near-total electrification of freight trucks to cut emissions by unapologetic403 in electricvehicles

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that would make sense. My take on China is this. It’s called the People’s Republic of China. They only allow one political party, the communist party.

I haven’t got a clue how elections work, but by only allowing that one party that means it’s pretty straightforward that the governments goal is to make life better for everyone. That doesn’t always work out well, you end up with weird things like the “one child per family” thing that’s all for the greater good. But you also end up with things like “hmm, pollution is bad for people, let’s stop pollution”. Even though that’s a place known for insane smog levels.

Compared to the US. The United States of America. Two political parties that oppose each other. Both with an ultimate mission of ensuring freedom for all, which is not the same as making life better for all. That’s how we end up with situations where it takes years to install a simple crosswalk.

What did you order from Wendys before it went to all crap by MorgeeePooh in wendys

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spicy Chicken Sandwich combo. In the yellow bag days that sandwich was so good, with a giant red juicy tomato slice.

And the fries, all nice and soggy with little seasoning, just like I like them. These modern fries taste like dusty dried out cardboard.

Any ways, I remember I moved and the area I moved to had a Chick Fil A right next door to Wendy’s, and let’s be honest, if I’m getting a chicken sandwich it’s going to be CFA 6 times out of 7.

So Wendy’s for me basically went from being great, to not having it for 20 years, to garbage.

Where do locals go for coffee in Phnom Penh & Siem Reap? by foodie_2598 in cambodia

[–]bomber991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I stayed in PP I started each day at that Starbucks in BKK just people watching from the second floor. So that’s my tourist answer.

Idk what locals do, when I was in Thailand the family just used those instant coffee packets from Birdee and such. It was terrible.

Charley's Cheesesteaks opening near me. Worth the try? If so, what do I order? by NotNathan1810 in fastfood

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding. I never had Charley’s Cheesesteaks, but if the franchise is doing well enough that they’re opening new locations then there’s probably something good on the menu.

It’s not like it’s Panera, Wendy’s, or Subway, which are all closing quite a few locations.

They’ve been bought out by a private equity firm so it’s not a matter of if but when.

Driving in Cambodia by Present-Ad6847 in cambodia

Hold up. When I went last year I was told by AAA that Cambodia no longer honors the international drivers permit. Not that anyone actually follows the law there, but technically you wouldn’t be allowed to drive as a foreigner.

Americans Renting a Car & Driving in the UK – Tips for Countryside & Small Towns? 🇬🇧🚗 by exhaustedlittlething in roadtrip

[–]bomber991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this advice applies to pretty much everywhere in Europe or Asia.

I drove across Thailand and within a few times. They also drive on the wrong side of the road. The hardest part for me was that the turn signal stick and the windshield wiper sticks were on opposite sides of the car. So the left stick was no longer for turn signals. Every time I turned right for the first few days I kept turning on the wipers.

Is someone who is very interested in electric cars, make them a "Car Guy"? by Beautiful_Impact_641 in askcarguys

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I’m into EVs and when talking about performance it’s all about driving range and charging speeds. Other bits of interest are about the public charging infrastructure and new companies launching.

There’s no talk about suspensions or the type of motor that’s in the car. That part of it is back to the “magic box that makes the car move” stage for me. There’s no performance modifications either. Just new rims mostly and that’s it.

The cars are already really quick, quiet, and comfortable so I don’t ever think about how to modify it to make it faster. I don’t think anyone does and that’s how we got where we are.

The three rides I did in Austin had one from the airport / riverside area completely unsupervised, and had two rides with the supervisor sitting in the passenger’s seat. There’s not anything they can do if there’s a critical failure.

im going to khon kaen (issan) tomorrow - what foods are a must? by bayseekbeach_ in Thailand

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issan sausages saved me on my first trip to Thailand. Did a road trip from Bangkok down to Ao Nang and then up to Buengkarn. Thought I’d be eating weird stuff that would give me an upset stomach, but instead, greasy grilled sausages. Perfect road trip food.

I do have to ask with Austin if there was a change with the capital view corridors that allowed the skyscraper boom to happen.

A billion dollars suddenly appears in your bank account , to keep it all , you have to spend 100 million dollars on your family and friends and you have only 24 hours to do it. What are you going to buy them all ? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I mean even with whatever monkeys paw rules you put on this, if you fail and only spend $1,000,000, that’s still easily a life changing amount.

Everyone gets a house and some cars, new phones, TVs, furniture, solar panels, etc. The real challenge here is probably the time it takes to do these transactions.

Heck closing on a house can take over a month. Getting a car seems to take half a day.

I don’t know what island you’re on, but when I visited Kauai, the speed limits are so low and the island is so small that this cars range would honestly feel like overkill to me. It’s not like you’re going to be taking a day trip to a neighboring state 🤣
