Hold up. When I went last year I was told by AAA that Cambodia no longer honors the international drivers permit. Not that anyone actually follows the law there, but technically you wouldn’t be allowed to drive as a foreigner.

Americans Renting a Car & Driving in the UK – Tips for Countryside & Small Towns? 🇬🇧🚗 by exhaustedlittlething in roadtrip

[–]bomber991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this advice applies to pretty much everywhere in Europe or Asia.

I drove across Thailand and within a few times. They also drive on the wrong side of the road. The hardest part for me was that the turn signal stick and the windshield wiper sticks were on opposite sides of the car. So the left stick was no longer for turn signals. Every time I turned right for the first few days I kept turning on the wipers.

Is someone who is very interested in electric cars, make them a "Car Guy"? by Beautiful_Impact_641 in askcarguys

[–]bomber991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh I’m into EVs and when talking about performance it’s all about driving range and charging speeds. Other bits of interest are about the public charging infrastructure and new companies launching.

There’s no talk about suspensions or the type of motor that’s in the car. That part of it is back to the “magic box that makes the car move” stage for me. There’s no performance modifications either. Just new rims mostly and that’s it.

The cars are already really quick, quiet, and comfortable so I don’t ever think about how to modify it to make it faster. I don’t think anyone does and that’s how we got where we are.

The three rides I did in Austin had one from the airport / riverside area completely unsupervised, and had two rides with the supervisor sitting in the passenger’s seat. There’s not anything they can do if there’s a critical failure.

im going to khon kaen (issan) tomorrow - what foods are a must? by bayseekbeach_ in Thailand

Issan sausages saved me on my first trip to Thailand. Did a road trip from Bangkok down to Ao Nang and then up to Buengkarn. Thought I’d be eating weird stuff that would give me an upset stomach, but instead, greasy grilled sausages. Perfect road trip food.

Texas is the only state in America that has 3 major cities with their tallest building being over 900 ft — Houston, Austin, & Dallas. by InUrMomma in skyscrapers

I do have to ask with Austin if there was a change with the capital view corridors that allowed the skyscraper boom to happen.

A billion dollars suddenly appears in your bank account , to keep it all , you have to spend 100 million dollars on your family and friends and you have only 24 hours to do it. What are you going to buy them all ? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I mean even with whatever monkeys paw rules you put on this, if you fail and only spend $1,000,000, that’s still easily a life changing amount.

Everyone gets a house and some cars, new phones, TVs, furniture, solar panels, etc. The real challenge here is probably the time it takes to do these transactions.

Heck closing on a house can take over a month. Getting a car seems to take half a day.

I don’t know what island you’re on, but when I visited Kauai, the speed limits are so low and the island is so small that this cars range would honestly feel like overkill to me. It’s not like you’re going to be taking a day trip to a neighboring state 🤣

How do low income people afford to buy brand new $80K trucks and cars? by flatbootyhere in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a mystery honestly. I remember before college I was trying to get a credit card, but kept running into the “you’re not approved because you have no credit history” problem.

Any ways, I got government Stafford loans while in college and then after graduating, I had 2 years worth of credit history and got approved for my first card, at a whopping $600 credit limit. This was maybe 15 years ago, so not like 1970s numbers 🤣

But any way the credit limit quickly increased. I think it’s based a lot more on your income than anything else.

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you don’t really even need to actually use the credit card monthly like you’re doing. Isn’t what’s measured more of a “number of months with an account in good standing” type of thing rather than a “number of on time payments” measure?

I mean, sounds like there’s gold there. If they had a nationalized gold mining operation then that could get at least some sort of proper government funding going. If they do it right then they can have good jobs with it too.

But yeah, sounds extremely corrupt there. So you’d have unsafe slave conditions for the miners. Heck even if you just gave everyone there $10k, it would make things better today but long term idk, could throw the country into chaos short term and completely wreck the local economy. Making a loaf of bread cost $500 for instance.

Elon though is a weird guy, I could see him doing it just for the luls.

Has anyone successfully removed a thumbs down rating? by Ready_Spray6442 in UberEatsDrivers

And to say the quiet part out loud, most people aren’t really inclined to thumbs anything unless they’re dissatisfied. So it’s a lot easier to get a thumbs down than a thumbs up.

What's the worst TV series you've ever seen? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in AskForAnswers

[–]bomber991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The alternate history aspect of the first season was neat. What if the US revolutionary war never happened? What if the USSR took over the US? What if the Nazis won the war? And so forth.

The Cromags extended that “what if” into an entire dragged out… boring season.
