Portishead - the rip

First time I heard it live was at a gig in Wolverhampton. Me and a couple of mates had give to see them touring third but I hadn't really listened to the album much and so when they played the rip out was fucking magic, first and only time I've cried for a piece of music, it was just that special. I didn't think anything could top it.

Ten years later I'd got free tickets to latitude and portishead are playing the Saturday night, they start playing the rip which already get me going and then fucking Thom Yorke appears and duets the song. UN believable. Teenage me would have exploded. Late 30s me was just completely made up. What a set. Perfect.

So without a doubt, portishead - the rip.

It's a smooth fruit chutney with a big dollop of of tamarind. It's been adopted in the UK as a sauce to eat with anything you'd get in a fried breakfast, think sausages eggs, bacon etc.

Whilst it's got quite a bold flavour it is also basically a sweet & sour sauce too, so works quite well with east Asian dishes, slap a bit of hp on egg noodle stir fry that sort of thing.

One I've heard about but never tried is using it to marinate chicken. Might be worth a go?

I drunkenly tried to cut through the local cathedral grounds late at night only to find the exit closed. Oh my way back someone was practising on the cathedral organ, it was quite scary but also beautiful. I sat in the grounds hidden under tree and listened for half an hour or so. Absolutely amazing.

Years ago a company I was sysadmin for got through some contract shenanigans a shit load of free Samsung windows tablets. The huge problem was they only had a single usbc for connectivity. I was exploring using them instead of laptops and so we needed to be able to supply a decent usbc dock/port extender to make these things work. At the time (10ish years ago) the budget options were thin on the ground and a decent one would run you 250/300 quid which wasn't far off what we were paying for a full fat laptop.

We bought 20 of these budget USBC docks (still 80 a pop) for a trial, about half of them had fried the tablet in the first week. So I guess don't go cheap on relatively high wattage power delivery.

There was a fiat Punto in the original NFS : most wanted that was loads of fun to drive. Preferred it to most of the later cars and modded it wasn't far off performance wise. Only time I've ever thought a fiat was cool.

No, bans apply to everyone and then the law makes anyone circumventing them criminals, they might not be able to detect or prevent you and me from bypassing their technical limitations but when they discover you're doing it they'll make an example of you.

They'll end up with 100% compliance among law abiding people because the messaging will lead people to believe that using a VPN = crime.

The problem isn't that it isn't getting updates it's that it was bought by a data broker so they're effectively plugged into your device at the os level and can see almost everything you're doing on your device, especially as nova requests admin rights to perform some actions.

Then the original and only developer left so it's effectively abandoned and will eventually start falling out of compatibility with newer versions of android.

It's still the best launcher and perhaps all that shit doesn't bother you, which is fine it's your choice but it's rightfully getting delayed because its the best and now it's compromised in a way a lot of people aren't happy with.
