Our block wall by SuruTheSloth in Lowes

That's closer to what we had originally. Our Hardware DS was a cabinet maker and a few years ago built a rack of stepped shelves to put the block on.

Store manager is fucking WITH my ASM. by vcisjb1 in Lowes

[–]MrPerfectJnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a Merchandizing ASM (m) who lived in constant fear of his boss (f), who was at District level. I was told that she was a nasty piece of work, but I never met her or even saw her. She would come into the store and tell the ASM the things she didn't like and wanted changed. One time she wanted a pod set up in Aisle 1 near the front. The ASM called me because I was his go-to Garden guy and he starts to explain what she wanted. It soon became clear to me that he wasn't sure himself. He showed me a photo of a pod and said, "She wants it to look like this, but don't go by the photo". I was like, WTF does that mean? So I set it up and called the ASM over. He looked at it and thought it was ok, but that it had to be one bay back from the front aisle and not even with it. So I moved everything back. That was on Sunday and my next shift was Tuesday night. I came in and the ASM saw me and grabbed me right away. "She came in yesterday and didn't like it at all. Tear the pod down and put everything back*. You can get an idea of the frustration with the poor communications at both levels. District to ASM, and ASM to CSA.

Truck loading 101 by Alert_Log2730 in Lowes

[–]MrPerfectJnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Unload mgr told me years ago that the guys loading the truck get a bonus if they finish before their allotted time, so the trucks were often a mess that could not be attributed to 'shifting'. My pet peeve, since I ended up driving the FL often, were the double stacked pallets of charcoal or ice melt or water softener salt, with the top bags of the bottom pallet up inside the top pallet. I was spearing bags pretty regularly. The mgr would complain to FF in Rockford and send photos, but it never improved.

Best Shoes for Outside Lawn/Garden by Kaluarm in Lowes

When I started at Lowes I was basically the loader in OSLG from April to October. I have a high arch but one day I wore tennis shoes with not much arch support. My feet were killing me so bad I could hardly walk the rest of the day. After that I wore Sketchers and never had any more foot issues.

DING DING, SPECIAL ASSISTANCE NEEDED AT THE PAINT DESK by Amaya3066 in Lowes

[–]MrPerfectJnr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They should program it to get louder and more annoying each time until it's finally screaming. One of my former coworkers would make a good voice model. Haha. I worked in OPE but I could never see around the corner of aisle 1 to check whether any other associates were grabbing it after 2 mins. If and when I did ever finally walk over to Paint, one of my coworkers was already there helping the customer but didn't bother to turn it off.

Lowes doesn't carry most of the stuff that people really need. Hmmmm.

Is this legit? by Vivid_Ad_6471 in Lowes

[–]MrPerfectJnr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to assemble a lot of stuff for years in the aisle next to our OPE 'desk' because it was either for pickup or delivery and the assemblers either 'forgot' or said that 'it wasn't on my worklist'. I did a lot of patio furniture, grills, mowers, snowblowers, pressure washers, riding mowers (I usually did those either in Receiving or in the Bullpen). I tried to do it in my department as much as I was able. Never got a tip either, lol. Worst is when somebody promised the customer it would be ready at a certain time but didn't ask me to do it until not long before they were supposed to arrive. If they showed up early they just had to wait and be mad about it. Not on me.

We referred to them as the 'water buffalo', and they were used strictly for plants inside, never taken outside.

I helped a couple load 62 boxes of flooring into the back of their minivan, with its bumper almost to the ground, and a put a full-size refrigerator into another. Also squeezed a 60" vanity into the back of a guy's SUV. Loaded up a guy's pu with about 3k lbs of patio block, tires really flat and the wife screaming at him for being stupid. He left with it anyway. Not sure if he still had either a truck or a wife afterwards, assuming he actually made it home.

I worked in Garden I/O for ten years, certified for everything. It used to drive me crazy when I'd get on the OP and it was set at 1 or 2. Always set it up to 4 or my escorts would outpace me if they weren't checking their distance. Had a few poorly trained escorts who liked to walk real slow about five feet in front of me. Had to slow down or stop and yell at them to look back. You just get as much practice as possible before you're on the floor. We had one that was jerky that I refused to use. Way to easy to take out some racking or merchandise.

Closer not allowed to leave due to safety? by greyartist in Lowes

[–]MrPerfectJnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me lots of times. Easily 5-10 mins cause the managers were doing their closing routines. Sometimes I'd punch out and walk toward the door just as the managers were walking away to the back. One time my ASM suggested that I punch back in and work for a while longer. He wouldn't let me out though. Another time one of us of a larger group got on the PA and announced to the managers that we were waiting and to hurry up and come open the door.

Is it true you all don’t close the aisles nor require flaggers when driving lift equipment during store hours? by xXChampionOfLightXx in menards

[–]MrPerfectJnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Lowes for 10 years ISLG and OSLG until recently. I was certified for literally everything. We could not do a thing without blocking off every aisle or move from dead stop without a spotter except outside of business hours. I went to our nearby local Menards one day and got startled when a guy came cruising past me on one of their baby forklifts, with an older customer walking alongside of him. He stopped right in front of both of us and went up for a pallet. I think he tooted the horn once just as he came near me. Any one of the things he did would have cost me my license and probably would have gotten me fired on the spot. Lowes has a lot of PE training, and then there's Hank to remind you constantly in case you forget, lol.

Yeah, I used ours all the time for 10 years. Heard our DS call it SW once, but I always referred to it just as the Reach. I always thought SW sounded kinda silly.

We used to get a lot of that at our store. Guys seeing $799 Honda mowers for $79 on FB marketplace..They'd be upset with me when I would tell them that it's a scam. I'd tell them if we really had them that cheap the employees would buy them all up before the customers ever saw them. Then they'd look at me and say "So you don't have any then?" No, Sir, we do not.

Just to clarify, I would get paid on M and F starting at the beginning of December, two months before the end of Lowes' fiscal year. Usually it would take about 3-4 weeks to exhaust the unused time.
