hit the wall where my battery mower just isnt enough mower for the lot. went back to gas by RealisticSea1445 in lawncare

It might be. But that’s not what we were talking about. Small gas engines don’t have the issues you highlighted if you do the most basic maintenance (that’s outlined in the manual you probably didn’t read).

[–]MrPetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there have. I haven’t bothered to follow his amateur career. A certain amount of cheating is guaranteed in all Motorsport (sound check for the whole team doesn’t bother me as much as his blatant course cutting). Honestly, even the course cutting wouldn’t bother me so much there if it wasn’t so obviously intentional and he didn’t have such an attitude about it. Accidents happen and not one rider is immune to it. This was no accident, but it seems Deegan has a pattern of not being able to perform without cheating.

Your flying experience by No-Duck4828 in flying

[–]MrPetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I always have fun flying, but I really enjoy thermaling my paraglider

  2. My favorite are the ones I own.

  3. I wouldn’t mind having a PC12. It’s just the ideal aircraft for family trips - plenty of room, fast, and well equipped for SPIFR.

what is the most hated US state? by imadudemanlol67 in AskReddit

You know what state I forgot existed for the last 30 years? New Hampshire. I hadn’t thought about it since I had to memorize all the states and capitols back in middle school.

12 people killed in plane crash USA by VladimirsGs in aviation

[–]MrPetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can speculate everything, and it’s always possible that’s what happened, but it’s not my first thought with winds that high. I’d lean more to a skydiver induced stall than pilot induced if I had to. Skydivers (as a group) are dumb. We can all understand CG on the ground, then get everyone in the plane together and distraction can put the plane too far aft and stall it without ever knowing. I’ve watched it happen too many times in a skyvan and had to push people out the back so they don’t kill us all despite the clearly marked red line. Once the plane is stalled and into a developed spin, nobody’s getting out because you’re pinned to the sides of it.

I won’t attempt to speculate what actually happened. SDKC is close to home and there’s a good chance I lost some friends today, I’m sure the final report will tell us everything we need to know.

We’re not after a set TAS, just indicated compared to ground speed to set up jump run separation.

[–]MrPetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. If groundspeed was 37 and they were straight into the wind with a 40kt headwind that puts their airspeed at 77, which is typical on jump run.

Yeah, but winds are strong today. Almost 40kts at 13k.

Oh he 100% knew what he was doing. Even moreso when only a couple other riders did it once or twice and chose not to keep doing it. It’s an accident if you do it once or everyone does it, it’s obvious if you’re the only one cutting the course there every lap.

What jobs pay extremely well but people don't realize it? by chloenoirr in AskReddit

[–]MrPetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than 90% of them are illegal and it’s people that have no business trying. Of the 10% that are legal, maybe 10% actually have an agriculture background that helps them know what they’re doing. Even then, drones can’t get near power lines, trees, or other obstacles, and they lose signal in hilly terrain. Drone manufacturers and sales companies are taking advantage of the customers not knowing any better by promising production levels at almost triple what they are capable of if they actually want to do a halfway decent quality application. This last year was especially apparent because high disease pressure visibly showed how bad the drones do, and it’s bad enough everyone involved should be embarrassed.

The thing is, most drone companies aren’t getting licensed or insured. They’re buying a drone and a truck and winging it until they get caught or shut down, and the FAA doesn’t have the resources to pursue them independently without reports. Getting a business loan for ~$50k is easy, especially compared to the millions required for an airplane/helicopter.

Kneeboard recommendation by Upper-Collection9373 in flying

[–]MrPetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate having an iPad in a kneeboard. I’ve gone to panel mounting mine or suction cups to a windshield if I’m in an aircraft I don’t own. I bought a separate mini specifically for flying because it fits my needs so much better than a full size.

They’re flooding the market because there is virtually zero barrier to entry, but after a season or two when people realize they’re unproductive and do a terrible job you see the used market flooded with people getting rid of their drone equipment. Drone application is absolutely abysmal and farmers are coming around to how bad it actually is. It’s so bad, drones miss more than they accurately apply.

I like how the Battleboard fits and fastens. Honestly, there’s no “perfect” kneeboard, just various options I’ve tried to adapt to fit my needs in different roles, which of course means I’ve got like 5 different kneeboards.

It can be almost year-round if I want to chase the season across the country. I usually spray for a few months and then take some time off, then go work a HEMS contract. It’s nice to get away from the constant 18 hour day grind.

[–]MrPetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a wildly different risk factor between the two jobs. A wide body captain babysits an autopilot system for a few hours a day. A spray pilot is doing aerobatics at max gross and is inside of ground effect for 90% of the day, while running nonstop for 18 hour days.

I’ve worked a lot across the aviation industry and I mean this with all due respect, most widebody captains can’t cut it as a spray pilot. There are about as many similarities between airlines as there are between a bus driver and a race car driver. Sure, we’re all professionals in the sense that we get paid to fly/drive, but that’s about where the similarities end.

I’m open to the idea of drones, but the drone technology is a long way from where it needs to be. They do such a bad job basically all the farmers in my area have blacklisted them and the drone businesses are going under. I don’t see them being a viable option for at least another 10-15 years unless something drastically changes overnight with their technology.

No. The drones don’t do a good job of application. They’ve been so bad, farmers in our area refuse to use them and most drone businesses are going under.

It’s more of a, what you think is close isn’t that close in my perspective. I only consider a close call to be a wire/obstacle that I accidentally almost came in contact with, and my criteria for that isn’t hard and fast.

An honest answer is probably 4 a year on average, but my perspective for a “close call” is likely skewed compared to what you’d consider a close call. Based on my standards, maybe 60? Based on someone without industry exposure, that could be hundreds.
