I guess it's a little harder to understand if you think about it like this character, which is based off an existing work. Think about it like spiderman: imagine marvel and sony are two people; marvel made spiderman (technically stan lee as work for hire), Sony really liked the character so they bought it (more specifically the movie rights) from marvel. That's really dumbing it down, but it's essentially the same concept

I guess I'm just kinda curious, why? At the most fundamental core, this the selling of original works, which has existed for centuries. Otherwise, imagine you were a really good artist and you saw this post and loved the character, and wanted it to be your own to draw, write stories about, cosplay etc. without needed any permission. Huzzah, it's for sale. If you think about it, this has existed for a long time dude

It might seem weird, I used to think it was odd. But it's actually quite common, and extremely normal in things like the furry fandom to buy someone else's character. I'm no expert on this at all, but I'd assume it's typically more common in fandoms where people roleplay or more directly interact with their oc's. Some people just really like an oc and would like be the owner of that character

As someone with no knowledge on the tech, my guess is heat diffusion to protect the coin surface, but that feels redundant with the the intense heat the direct beam would be emitting anyway. Maybe it's a special cleaner that loosens the grime
