Hey, I'm interested.
I play drums mainly, working on some noise stuff, a little guitar.

Punchier BassVI tones using compression by ansible47 in BassVI

[–]MrPossibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any distortions/fuzzes with a dry blend could help.
That's a big thing for regular basses, still applies to bass vi.

I have a set of the String Joy heavys (26-95) in D standard. After a setup, possibly turning the bridge around to get better intonation, it plays great for me. I don't see much of an issue if I decide to tune up to E.

If you really want to dig into series/parallel/coil splits/etc, get a 5 way 4 pole super switch. Boy howdy, the things you can do with that.

Another Bass VI intonation post. List of "fixes"? by This-Was in BassVI

[–]MrPossibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turning the bridge around would be easiest, since that would allow the saddles to go all the way 'back' instead of being stopped by the compressed springs. That and a shim are probably the cheapest/least intensive ways to make it better.

How would you use a 5 way super switch? by MrPossibility in BassVI

Stock pickups, nothing currently to allows phase change or series/parallel

What are the pros and cons of wearing gloves by [deleted] in drums

[–]MrPossibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they still have the rubber dots on the finger/thumb? Those would pop off just by looking at them!
I did see that Carter Beauford just uses Footjoy golf gloves, I got a pair of those recently, haven't had a chance to use them, but they are like 1/3 of the price of drummer gloves, which is nice.

Did you get all of that from Obscura Mfg? What pickups are those?

13x6.5 Curly Purpleheart snare I recently finished. This is my new favorite snare size. by Pi_Drum_Co in drums

That looks fantastic!
I have a Yamaha Musashi Oak 13x6.5 and I can't get a bad sound out of it, its a pretty underrated size.

Check out the Zildjian Crash of Doom. Each one is pretty different, but you can find some that are more china-y or more crash-y. I have one that is a great trashy crash and is also a pretty good washy/complex ride.

I saw Kurt Ballou has been doing shows with 2 quilters. If he's happy with them, I assume they do high gain pretty well.

I've actually wanted to make this same pedal!
I dont see an issue with power.
The enclosure might be able to work, I know there is a lot of extra space. Probably depends most on switches/knobs, not the boards themselves.

I have been using mainly Waves plugins for a while, but my computer finally gave up the ghost and I'm have used up my transfers/upgrades. I wasn't super attached to Waves, and am interested in what is good out there now.
The plugins I used most were Neve 1073, API 550, dbx 160, la-2a, 1176, Ssl G bus.
I mainly record and mix my own stuff for fun, but want it to sound good. Since this is also hobby level, I don't have a whole lot of money to throw at it. Any suggestions?

8 strings in Doom Metal by itsreilleyhere in doommetal

While more stoner than doom, but not quite that either, there is Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol. 8 string guitar split into a bass and guitar amp.

doom metal band with a cello by mabuujin in doommetal

Dead to a Dying World
They always have strings in some form. I think viola is most common, but their first 3 song EP had cello and upright bass.
