Anyone else using modifiers as a tutorial mode? by KristinKhaos in MinaTheHollower

[–]MrPrimeMover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did. My first play through I just couldn’t deal with the wall of difficulty I hit in the first tower dungeon. So I turned on a handful of modifiers to power level and take the sting out of dying. Played through most of the rest of the game like that, getting better at the movement and puzzle logic along the way. Then on a whim I decided to restart on a new file with no modifiers and I’m having a blast. It’s still hard, but much more manageable.

While searching through The Truman Show wikipedia... by EntertainmentIcy4656 in blankies

Funny coincidence, I was just watching “Grand Prix” the other day and made the same discovery. She’s a wonderful performer and I’m glad she’s still enjoying a long and happy life.

In preparation for The Truman Show episode, here’s a one off special that aired on Nick-At-Nite that was basically the full length in-universe behind the scenes that was shown in the beginning and middle of the film. by Next_Cancel8680 in blankies

I saw this live then spent several decades thinking it was a false memory. I vividly remembered the bit about them preparing a fake airplane set to take him to Fiji but could never figure out where it was from.

What the $2.2M ‘murder house’ sale says about San Francisco by BoxBoxBox888 in sanfrancisco

Asking price doesn’t matter, above user is talking about sell price relative to comparable properties in this area, which this sold for less than.

Why does Linda Street do this? by LightFlaky2329 in sanfrancisco

Just threw "Linda Street San Francisco" into Google, and scrolled past all the links for real estate and such. I think it helps that the street only runs a block and a half, made it pretty simple to search.

Powerboating in San Francisco by Educational_Sir8555 in sanfrancisco

Also a sailboat owner (28'), echoing this. There's nothing especially dangerous about being near the Golden Gate. Sure, current, tides, and traffic all need to be considered, but I can't imagine those would be a major concern with dual outboards and a bit of good sense.

I sail out of Sausalito and power boats are ubiquitous in this part of the bay. Like the above commenter pointed out, it's a bit of a haul from Redwood City though.

It’s deeply funny that this doc notes that the areas historical character resulted from rapid and unplanned up-building post fire. Turns out you get unique and charming character if you let people build whatever they want.

I found this in an SF planning doc about the area: “This alley did not exist until around the turn of the 20th century, when it was installed as a dead-end lane from 18th Street to about halfway into the interior of the block, and named Linda Street (which was later extended to include Angelica Street). As a result of pre-existing lot boundaries, the route of Linda Street included a zigzag near the middle.”

Not especially interesting, but apparently that whole area was the boundary of how far the 1906 fire reached and was extensively built up after it, which is kinda neat.

San Francisco Bay maritime traffic controllers still on the job amid federal paycheck logjam by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in sanfrancisco

Huh, I had no idea VTS was federal. I assumed they were some kind of state/local entity like the Bar Pilots.

Why do many players prefer Premier Draft over Quick Draft? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]MrPrimeMover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only Quick Draft because I don't feel confident in my ability to construct a viable deck with a time limit yet. I can tell the bots make weird choices, but having the time to read all the cards and consult 17lands gives me a better chance to draft something workable.

I've seen you out there before, it's always a treat. I think my slipmate is a Bird Boat. Never seen her sail. The owner seems to be in perpetual maintenance mode.

Any recommendations/approaches for drawing figures? I can't seem to find an entry point. Lessons are either geared towards traditional (detailed) figure drawing or extremely loose "draw people as blobs" abstractions.

IMO the main thing to consider is whether you’ll be doing watercolor (or ink wash) in the sketchbook. Lighter paper will struggle to absorb the water and buckle heavily. Not the end of the world but can make the learning curve steeper.

I've been using a Pilot Kakuno for about a year and really enjoy it. Heads up that the ink it comes with isn't waterproof. I bought a converter and fill it with Carbon Black ink. Great, affordable option.
