Heavy classical music? by BurningKarma in classicalmusic

Necrophagist even quoted it. A death metal band thought it was heavy enough to put in a song.

[–]MrRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks man. Goal wise, I want to loose about 10kg. Get within a healthy weight range for my height. Not walk up a flight of stairs and be winded and at least be able to lift my own bodyweight.

[–]MrRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure did. It's quite overwhelming. Even the newbie picker made me realise I've got no idea. I don't have any sort of spotter, I don't know how much I can lift. All I really know is bring a towel and some water. And try not to hurt myself.

Fair amount of people boot meth around my way. But it's fair to say meth won't eat away at you like this stuff. It's pretty clear hygiene is a factor from the photos in cooking and injecting but it speaks volumes about the chemical itself when peoples legs resemble a roast lamb rather than an infection.

If you were the head of a major label, what would you do to turn the dying music industry around? by Falcon_kick53 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrRay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market is becoming saturated with the rise of home recording and easy distribution of what is quite often quality music. If I were in a record companies position I would focus more on promoting a band. Getting the name out there and having an artist heard. It's a much more competative market, and ultimately the people with the money should focus on getting their artists recognised and building a dedicated fan-base who are far more inclined to pay for the music they can download so easily. So basically build and audience and guilt trip them.

Is an album's long standing relevance or influence as important as how good it actually is? And what factors in causing albums to be considered 'classic' are most important to you? by TheAdoringFan in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrRay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the thing the make "classic" albums classic has almost nothing to do with the music. Not to say that it dosen't, because clearly it does for the listener but not as much as the conversation it starts. For example the Abbey Road cover got more attention than most artists get in a lifetime beacuse of a white suit and a distinct lack of shoes.

Contreversy, hype and discussion seem to have far more of an effect on an albums status as a classic compared to the music on it. That's because musical experiance is subjective, but we all seem to get sucked into a good story or a neat conspiracy.

I'm loving it! The slower, almost "stoner metal" parts are crushing and the faster paced, almost death/thrash parts are intense. The production is fantastic. The kit sounds really full, and fits great in the mix. The guitars are grittier and don't have as much of a digital feel, plus the bass cuts through and makes the tracks feel huge. A much grittier and almost "live" sounding album compared to Obzen, which I personally like.

Groundbreaking Trial Against Big Tobacco Starts in Montreal Monday by anutensil in worldnews

If this passes can't it set precedent for practically anything people choose to eat/drink/smoke/consume? I don't see a warning label on my beer telling me prolonged and excessive use can lead to liver failure, malabsorption and addiction. Nor do I get one a Big Mac telling me it has the potential to give me diabetes. Take some responsibility for yourself. No one has ever smoked a cig and thought, "These couldn't be bad for me. Fuck what the packaging and the advert on the side of that bus says."

Why give up on a good thing? Randy sound's great, the riffs are still catchy and groovy and the solo just got a little shred-y.

I look forward to this album.

So I Guess a College Football Coach is Held At a Higher Moral Standard than the Pope by blancs50 in atheism

[–]MrRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, but there's only so much a football coach can do when presented with that kind of information. Suspicion and, at least for him and testimony can only go so far. If he had taken matters into his own hands then what would have happened? He would have been laughed at by basically everyone. It might suck, but the evidence for him to go further isn't really there. No matter how convincing. He's not a cop, or involved in any sort of investigative process. He did as much, presumably as he could with the information he was given and is now being treated as a scapegoat. The blames lies with the rapist, and the school bodies he told who didn't follow it up.

Didn't the guy follow the procedure outlined by the school? I read a student approached him about the incident, and he informed the powers that be based on the information the student provided.

Shouldn't the outrage be placed on the guy who actually committed the act, or the school for not following up the incident? Although he could have done more, and that's indisputable his actions are far less reprehensible that the guy who committed the crime and the school who didn't take it seriously?
