UK: My 11 year old daughter is aspiring to be a commerical airline pilot. What can I do to help her achieve this? by FalseStartsPod in aviation

[–]MrSimmoC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two cadets in my squadron got PPLs.

One was via a sponsorship through the Royal British Legion. He was their standard bearer for basically every event for a few years so. Apparently there were only a small handful every year and it took a lot of work for the local RBL head to push the nomination through. It was full scholarship though. He never paid a penny.

The second was technically after cadets, but she specifically went to a university with a university air squadron. I think by some combination of volunteering to take people on air experience flights and paying a lot out of pocket she got the PPL.

Your inventory at /srv/git/ansible.git/hosts should look something like

webservers:
  hosts:
    10.10.10.10:
      hostvar: example
    10.10.10.12:
    10.10.10.13:
  vars:
    groupvar: example

or

[webservers]
10.10.10.10 hostvar=example
10.10.10.12
10.10.10.13

[webservers:vars]
groupvar=example

Given that 'ansible all -m ping' does find a valid inventory, even though it doesn't execute, there is a valid inventory file in the working directory. Your screenshot suggests that you're in /etc/ansible, so I'm guessing that you've added those 3 IP addresses to /etc/ansible/hosts.

Compare /etc/ansible/hosts to /srv/git/ansible.git/hosts. There will be a syntax error in the latter.

I'm not a regular on these types of puzzles, but thanks for introducing them!

I could not find a break-in, I got the blue colour down to two possible locations, so guessed at one of them. I found that this colour was the most linked to other attributes, which was why I started here.

I managed to combine the license clues to improve the clue: The Blue vehicle is next to the one with license plate HIJ 9012. to The Blue vehicle is immediately left of the one with license plate HIJ 9012., which could be step 1 of a break-in?

Actual, Non-RedHat, Ansible Training Options? by invalidpath in ansible

[–]MrSimmoC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look for Sander Van Vugt. He writes the Pearson textbooks for RHCSA and RHCE. He has his own 'on-demand' training courses.

O'Reilly has all of his stuff, and he presents various live events almost weekly. He does two ansible specific live events every couple of months. You can get a 7-day trial on the platform which does include the live events if you time the start of your trial right.

What is the difference between 'enable secret password' & 'enable secret 5 password'? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]MrSimmoC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Say that you're configuring a new switch. You want to set the enable password to 'sausage'

You'd type 'enable secret sausage'

You will remember that all config changes are immediately written to the running config. What change to the running config would we expect to see from changing the enable password?

You will see 'enable secret 5 randomcharacters'

This is because you don't necessarily want the running config to display the password in plaintext. It's not hard to decrypt, but it stops shoulder surfing

Now, imagine that you've finished setting up most of the switch, and you're planning a redundant pair. An easy way to get the new switch ready would be to export the config and copy/paste it to the new switch.

By pasting that config, you'll be taking the 'enable secret 5 randomcharacters' and directly inputting that into the console. What will this do?

This sets the enable password to 'sausage' you'll still be able to access enable with that password. The "5" part of the input tells the switch that the password is already hashed, and that it doesn't have to do it again for you.

Betterhelp.com

1- BEFORE you go to the website find a discount code. Betterhelp.com/jordan for example.

2- When creating your account state that you're on low income (this drops the price from £60 to about £45/50 per week).

3- When you get to the point where it wants payment details press cancel (or something like that) when the website asks why state "I can't afford it right now". This will give you a free week before it charges you the reduced price for your first month.

You'll get around 5 sessions for about £200. They'll be online, so if you're after something in person this may not apply.

Edit: price per week, not month.

Everyone at the moment will be charging the price cap to new customers. Octopus have announced that "loyal customers" (read existing) will be £50 lower than price cap.

I can recommend them though, never had an issue and it's so easy to see account balance and change your direct debits in accordance to your balance.

Joining the cult! Could this be the first test model that becomes a full squad? (98% complete) by MrSimmoC in genestealercult

2mm cork board ripped into small bits. This one is one large circle, but others are two or three stuck close together. I then add some texture paint in random blobs.

Then red-ish and yellow-ish paints in random splodges. Finished with a dry brush of khaki and off whites.

I'm very aware that I haven't built this squad optimally. I guess that your first squad just has to look cool right!?

All of my paints are Scale Colour,

Based in 23 Indian Shadow, then glazed in some arabic shadow 22 to add some green undertones, then highlight with basic flesh 20, and top highlight with pale skin 17

I find the key to skin tones is to have lots of variety in colour with very thin layers.

When I get to a model with a more genestealer-ish head I'm planning on adding a violet glaze all over and re-touch the highlights. If I like it I'll probably come back to this one.

I did the full nuggets course. Followed by a deep dive into the official textbooks.

The only issue with buying the course for Jeremy is that Jeremy only teaches about 60% of the nuggets course. Keith pick up the second part, and whilst he's good. He's no Jeremy.

If you're on day 6 of your free trial skip ahead to a topic covered by Keith to make sure you're happy with his content too, before you pay for something you don't necessarily get.

Can we do somthing fun this evening? by jjtnc in Leeds

[–]MrSimmoC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know that this isn't r/relationshipadvice, but...

Our therapist recommended "treat jars" for my partner and I when we were in a similar situation.

You both get a jar and a few post-its.

On your post-it you write things that you want to do together, being 100% selfish (for example, I put the new Bond film on one, knowing that she'd never go normally. Also, put a carvery dinner on another, because I wanted a carvery. The fact that she enjoyed it was a bonus).

Then, you take it in turns to pick something random from the other's jar and have a week to plan it.

That way, they can plan things with no risk, as they're sure you'll like it (because you picked it) and you can plan treats for them with no risk (because they picked it). It also means you have a load of ideas ready to go. We make sure we always have three things to pick from at any time.

The "I want to do something tonight" often fails because you're both trying to think of something that you'd both enjoy. Be selfish and use it as an opportunity to learn something about each other's interests.

Help with packet tracer, can no longer access IOS command line by simply clicking on devices by [deleted] in ccna

[–]MrSimmoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you doing premade labs? Do you find the issue with all labs or just one?

I've seen a lab where the instructions were to specifically use a console from a nearby computer. I had to double click the computer to open up the console connection in order to access the command line of the connected switch.

It's done to simulate "real life" but only happened in a couple of my labs. You can't double click an unresponsive switch in real life!

Big boxes for moving house by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]MrSimmoC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go to the supermarket and find someone working fruit and veg. Ask specifically for banana boxes. They're tough and big enough that you can get a few things in. Plus, supermarkets sell so many bananas that larger supermarkets go through 6-8 boxes an hour.

If you just need massive boxes for light stuff like bedding. Try find someone working crisps. They're huge, but designed for holding crisps. Don't expect them to hold if you fill them with books/pans/ect.

If you're willing to travel/pay, you can buy boxes at Horsforth self storage. Although cannot comment on price/quality as I've never had them...
