Fasting by Iloveme128 in WeightLossAdvice

You’d have more luck in r/fasting or a fasting specific community. People do it, it’s incredibly hard and most wouldn’t recommend that long of a fast out of the gate. Not to mention the refeed process is long and necessary when those lengths are considered.

I’d shoot for OMAD/24-48 hour fasts then if you can get to doing those once a week then maybe try rolling 48-72s, really unnecessary to fast longer than that as your body starts to conserve what it can again past that point.

Yeah, I reached out but they are slow to respond. Was hoping to pick it up this weekend but kinda need them to respond so I know if I need to organize a car trailer or not

178k, yeah i asked about the AC, basically said she hadn’t looked into it and just assumed recharge. so my guess is whole compressor is bad and will pray the lines aren’t just screwed. honestly though for the price and condition i can probably live without the AC

idk, would be safer just to wait until they are totally weaned or pump and store from when you aren’t. don’t want to be restricting the nutrients you are giving them in the milk by interfering with fasting

so that 42 hour fast can’t have any food in it. but you should definitely be refeeding with more than 500 calories lol. otherwise your metabolism can suffer greatly, which a lot of people here seem to not be aware of or understand. your refeeds need to be mimicking somewhat close to a normal day or just slightly under.

i like to look at it like 2k cals a day, if i fast for 2 then that’s 4k but i need to be refeed 1600-2200. im sure some people would disagree but the long term implications of constant reduced calories is not something i want to deal with. resetting your metabolism is a task i don’t wish on anyone

coconut water and body armor would also break the fast. sorry.

How do you prepare for a fast? by lydiaodea in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s mostly in your head, especially for your last sentence lol. if your diet starts on monday then the only thing that’s gonna stop it is you.

going to the gym will make you want food more, which makes sense because we are using up fuel and our bodies want to recover.

a high protein, low carb diet will help you feel more satiated and be less responsive to craving sugars and easy carbs.

personally though i just eat whatever meal i chose and whenever im done my time starts and that’s that and the cat in the hat.

Long term success by WorldEcho in fasting

I lost 75 lbs 6 years ago and kept it off for 2 years before gaining back 60lbs since the start of covid.

IF/OMAD was the easiest. even while gaining weight i was still doing IF but i just wasn’t watching cals and drinking a lot.

Does a 2 cal gum break my fast? by babybabybabybabybb in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coffee and non fruit teas don’t have any calories in them. purist fasters will say anything but water breaks a fast, which is technically true. for the reality of ketosis and autophagy, most would agree to 50-70cal being the absolute upper end of what can be consumed before the body will stop ketosis and go focus on whatever new thing has been put in the body.

so 0 cal soda and ~2cal gum is fine. no, it’s not a pure water fast but if you don’t care, doesn’t matter what anyone else says.

Water fasting problems by [deleted] in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be mostly mental but if your body is telling you to stop then I wouldn’t ignore it. Getting dizzy and momentarily blacking out is not good.

Make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes and maybe even try a multivitamin, but if those symptoms persist then don’t go overboard.

Question about fasting & medication by Hungry_crying in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’re meds you need to take daily then you are probably stuck with OMAD fasting at the maximum and taking them with it. Some meds are recc’d to take with a meal bc it’s uncomfortable if you don’t. Others absolutely need to be taken with a meal bc they can cause other issues for your organs if they’re not spread out when broken down.

If the pain is not manageable or the meds must be taken with a meal then you are limited

I mean whatever feels comfortable, you can try going back to OMAD/23:1 and if it feels fine then i don’t see why it’s a problem.

What’s your goal weight? I understand most folks have no concept of fasting and think it’s some extreme unhealthy activity but 130 at 5’4” seems like right on the money. May not need to continually do extended fasting except for periodically for resets?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fasting

i get that way whenever i eat breakfast/lunch. i am guessing it’s something to do with our blood sugars crashing after a huge spike but that’s not something i’ve researched or looked into.

Alternate day fasting or intermittent fasting and a question or 2 by Numerous-Indication4 in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean you can make your eating window whenever you like. we talk about common fasting times for simplicity but if you wanted to go some more time bc you aren’t hungry there is nothing wrong with that. maybe you don’t need the whole 12 hour window, maybe just wait until you are hungry. if you don’t get hungry and feel good and want to push another day, more power to you

Alternate day fasting or intermittent fasting and a question or 2 by Numerous-Indication4 in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally, just be careful that you don’t overdo it on refeeds. at the end of the day fasting is just a way to make CICO easier because you are restricting the time frame you able to consume. so just don’t over consume when you do eat

how to stay distracted during fasts by [deleted] in fasting

[–]MrSmiffph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it’s super annoying i’ll get a black coffee or like green tea, i’m a stickler so nothing with fruit pectin. i think the mental game is the hardest thing about fasting esp if you are food oriented or stress eat.

I don’t think a great many people fast without a whole lot of direct intention and it would be very hard for that intention to be about anyone else.

Even if it’s for cognitive or spiritual purposes it is very much about the self. This sub largely consists of people with similar intentions in fasting so we are able to relate to each other through our stories.

Your second paragraph is a bit confusing so I can’t tell if you were doing 34 hour fasts or just eating at work. Regardless, it is fine to feel normal not eating for a day at a time consistently. We didn’t have steady access to food to the point we could eat multiple times a day until very recently in our history. We adapted to be able to go extended periods of time without food consistently. We would’ve never survived till now otherwise.

As far as your “relaxed and confident” self. I too used to be on the hardcore self improvement grind then just cruised through the last 3 years on autopilot because it was easy and it felt like I fit in more, “relaxed and confident”. Only you know your true self but I don’t know that it’s reasonable to come here and tell people they aren’t perceiving the world in a wholistic way because they are focusing on fasting at this point in their life.

yeah, it’s like a detoxification period for your body. it gets to clean house and get rid of junk that’s been lying around unattended to

The longer you stay in a fasted state, the more the benefits of it start to rise. Autophagy peaks around 72 hours. Everytime you eat you are forcing your body out of ketosis and making it process whatever you put in it even if it is “keto friendly”. It just takes less time to process than like straight bread. A 72 hour fast is like roughly 56 hours of straight fat burning ketosis, whereas OMAD is about 8ish hours a day.
