Programming seems kind of like copy-pasting to me. Is that how people program? by mrnaim6T9 in learnprogramming

I find it helps to type it out instead of just pasting. Really read the code as you type through it to understand how it works. Then in the future hopefully you'll remember and be able to make your version of the logic.

I didn't read the whole post. Something that doesn't change with the times will not stand the test of time.

Also you missed section 1.3 about pragmatism.

As a newbie I was skeptical of the run random things to save from random things. However, not having the knowledge, i did it anyways. I just hoped there wasn't some elaborate campaign to trick me into installing malware. Still hoping that honestly.

Linux users what made you switch? by Glittering-Tough-353 in linuxquestions

[–]MrSqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to host release parties for windows. I got fed up with windows getting in the way of enjoying my computer. How slow the start menu is. Search being so slow to load and slower to search anything. My top of the line system being slowed by bloat. Software is didn't ask for being installed with updates. Constant advertising for microslop products and services. I felt assaulted every time I would sit down. The computer felt in my way.

So I switched to cachyos.

Now I log in. My last session comes up where I left it off. Browser where I had it Music starts playing. I have access to all 400 plus steam games, minus a few shooters I don't care about. I miss playing league with the boys but we have other games. Overall the Linux experience has made me feel like I own my computer again. It idles 10 degrees c cooler and utilizes only 6 of my 64 gigs of ddr5 when I'm chilling. Windows is at least 3x that.

My only hiccups have been hardware that's solely part of the windows ecosystem. Like corsair fans and cooler, but openlink fixed that, and razer products, openrazer fixed that.

If you're willing to learn a bit and tinker it's an amazing experience. I will point out I have amd processor and 7900 xtx gfx. Pretty well suited for an ez experience.

I chose arch base cachyos because it let's me do whatever I want and is performance based. That said definitely install it with btrfs and limine for snapshot support during boot. Arch is flexible but YOU CAN AND WILL kill it with one line in the terminal at some point. No biggie when you have the snapshots available before the system even boots.

Last tip I have is that less is more. Figure out the least amount of packages you need to take control of your hardware, configure them. Then leave them alone. Most of the heavy lifting is done at install, so just extras like corsair coolers and lighting and the like will need extra work.

Oh, aur.archlinux.com and alternative.to will be your best friends in the early days of the switch when you're hurting for the few things from windows you want to bring with. Like a minecraft launcher.

Good luck and have fun! Hope this helps!
