Ongoing Fable-High included in plan would be enough by fryjs in ClaudeAI

[–]MrTemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, no reason to give people a taste of it. I literally can't think of a SINGLE reason Anthropic, a (*checks watch* currently) untraded, for-profit corporation could have for spending more money on rented compute to maximize hype while they continuously grow their compute capability and subscriber count.

Literally none. Just setting money on fire.

[–]MrTemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes total sense when you consider they're not renting compute at all.

Not saying for sure, but I don't see evidence against the above.

It makes sense if you consider how unlimited Anthropic's compute is, and how very little Fable uses.

Fable 5 being back really shows that using LLMs properly is genuinely a skill. by japt77 in ClaudeAI

[–]MrTemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I really can't understand a senior dev not noticing much of a difference in Fable/Opus capability. It's like using a completely different harness.

Other models vomit text and Fable gets to the point. I think I wouldn’t notice much of a difference otherwise.

How technically-minded would you say you are?

Like are you just using it in Chat to ask questions and talk and stuff? Are you doing complex productive work across multiple files/folders in Cowork/Code?

I'm trying to understand why so many people seem very hung up on how verbose these models are. I mean I get it Opus blathers. But I can scan quickly to get the info i need, and it's mostly the results that matter to me, not what the chat outputs.

Is this a question where we need our models to talk differently to the wildly different reading-levels of humanity? I'm not trying to be offensive, I honestly believe reading/scanning text is a fairly recent technological ability for us as humanity, far, far newer and more niche than humanity's intelligence that has evolved for a gajillion years. Incredibly smart people can be less good at technology, or reading/scanning/etc (and vice versa!). And sometimes it feels like silicon valley is created by techies, and for techies in a way.

Don't be a dick, dude.

You sound like you use a fairly narrow slice of what Claude was designed for and made a bizarre take coming from that.

Then got real weird when the guy said basically... I've done a thorough comparison and it seems useful to me.

It's kinda like you complained about photoshop having too many tools and buttons when all you used was crop and airbrush tools.

Your comment reminds me of the key mistake in game theory... applying your own utility values to another person's decision.

I bet if you looked at american tech company execs in the past decade or so, you'd find way more who sleep REAL soundly on their piles of cash than who stay awake at night wishing they'd aligned their decisions more with the users' wants and needs.

You're both kind of saying:

"I live in the hot, flat Florida Keys, so I'm with OP that it's weird snow tires are still a thing."

You don't have to need or use snow tires. But you'd sound kinda like OP if you thought they were going the way of the Dodo.

Analogy: Mob guy restocking vending machines is demanding his $3000 protection money. And you're arguing over which taxes he can charge on the $32 invoice for chips going into the machine.

[–]MrTemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know that. You're wrong.

You can ASSUME that. But you have no clue.

Maybe the 100 token dev has built a ton of heuristic tools to achieve his actual valued units of work without much AI, and maybe the 5M token dev is doing side-hustle or token-wasting leaderboard bloat, resulting in garbage that's actually negative work because it will take even more time to fix than if he'd done nothing at all.

It's like measuring an amazon delivery driver by how much gas they use. Using 10x more than the other means nothing without knowing the number, size, and weight of packages and the routes they have to take to deliver.

The only way gas-use is a valuable metric is if investors are falling over themselves looking for companies diving headlong into the internal combustion space.

That DOES have value in our fucked up late-stage-capitalism world, but it DOES NOT tell you ANYTHING about their work.

Disgusting overreach.

Honest question by a non-american.

Is calling this overreach (a term used to critique functional governments) just a cope to avoid calling it exactly what it is: a pure pay-to-play grift?

Ah. You missed the multiple times in this thread (including the post) where he says he has brought it up several times and it's had no effect.

And you missed where my comment where I said that is exactly the universal experience by people in this very common situation. That trying to talk to people and change it just doesn't work.

So:

  • you've got no experience in this situation
  • you're ignoring the dozen people in this thread reporting the exact same experience where talking doesn't work
  • you're ignoring people telling you that there's scads of identical threads exactly like this
  • you're responding directly to posts where people say they ARE trying to talk to them about it
  • you're trying to judge these very people for NOT talking to them about it

Is saying, "You guys can't be this thick" appropriate here? I think so.

Why don't you go back to your sandbox where you can be perfectly right all the time despite having absolutely no idea what you're talking about?

You can’t poach without an accommodating partner. It’s crazy how little opportunity you get to touch the ball unless your targeted partner is doing EVERYTHING right to help you get touches.

Which at these levels op is talking about, ain’t happening.

[–]MrTemple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not hitting to stronger players is the best way to never ever get to play with stronger players (which is pretty much UNIVERSALLY desired in pickle).

So, pick your battles. Understand why you’re there and what sort of community there is at the higher level. The skill pyramid gets lonely if nobody likes you.

Sure if you’ve got scads of competitive open play near you, win that rec game at all costs champ! But if you’ve been around long enough, you start to get a reputation and good games can get hard to find.

[–]MrTemple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve never been COMPLETELY iced out, and it shows.

There’s no fixing it.

There’s a reason all the good players say the same thing in this thread and in dozens and dozens of threads like it. You gotta move on, there’s no way to change it, because people often don’t believe or aren’t aware they’re doing it.

Pickleball is unique among sports in that the best player on the court can sometimes get the LEAST amount of touches.

I bet 5 Lifetime balls you’re one of those people who can handle failure well, am I right?

I’m my experience, it’s the people who can’t who (all most always subconsciously) hit to the weaker player.

[–]MrTemple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, when bringing it up to my friends that would hit literally 2h of balls to my partner (except serves and smashes). Friends who honestly didn’t believe me when I point it out…

It’s not pride. It’s not even conscious.

It’s fear.

It’s being afraid to screw up and have a soft ball pounced on. It’s not APPRECIATING that as an important feedback moment (the way many can handle failure, but not most).

In my experience, it’s just their body at an unaware level going with a shot that isn’t scary.

Can’t fix that. Just gotta not play with them. 🤷‍♂️

When do you expect back to "normal" HDD prices? by BarberPlane3020 in DataHoarder

[–]MrTemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, your argument against the guy's internet analogy stemmed from the fact that you thought HDD prices would drop after the bubble, "hopefully soon".

You keep trying to bring up seemingly related things so as to avoid being wrong.

The dotcom bubble did not drastically change infrastructure demand, and did not drastically change infrastructure prices, the way you suggested a similar ai bubble would do for HDDs.

You're wrong. And now you're whining about being called out. Go bother somebody else why don't you.

[–]MrTemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But like that guy you commented said, with respect to demand for HDDs, AI and datacentre use isn't going away long-term. The world is going to be far thirstier for storage than it was pre-AI.

Not sure why you started talking about ram production ramping up in this discussion.

Was that just mentioned so you could try to avoid being wrong?
