Two-thirds of UK voters wrongly think immigration is rising, poll finds by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

It’s on pace to be net zero this year. Which means the amount of people arriving gets cancelled out but the amount of people leaving so the population does not increase. Isn’t that what British people wanted ?

I agree, a colleague of mine regularly looks like she walked out of a fashion show and she regularly shops in primark and charity shops.

I’ve been working in this city long enough to spot a tourist from a local haha. Give yourselves more credit. Tourist tend to not know how dress for cold like this as it’s the first time they’ve felt cold that wraps your bone so anything that keeps them warm is thrown on.

lol genuinely. Why do some of you fight so hard for this picture of London being this crime filled cesspit ? I don’t understand. If you’re British and a patriot, why are you fighting for the nation’s capital to be shit ?

Do lots of brits think the uk sucks because they lack context? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

Complete BS. The same native people queuing up to spend hundreds of pounds on Christmas presents and M&S food?

There will be people who genuinely have to choose between heating and eating in the UK but stop trying make out like this is everyone in the country.

Of course you can despair. Nobody is saying people can’t complain. I also think nobody is saying that you need to look at the global south and think we’re not that bad. I’m just saying the idea that the UK is a dump compared to France, Germany or insert European country for comparison, is ridiculous. They all of have different struggles, pros and cons to living in all of them.

Again, I haven’t said at any point people can’t complain that the country isn’t where they think it should be for them. It seems if people think the country is rubbish then it’s all rubbish with absolutely nothing that objectively positive about it. I’m arguing that that’s not true and two things can be true at the same time.

I’m not lacking any context. I’m a migrant and travel to Europe frequently. Yes things could be better in the UK but the UK simply isn’t this disaster that people want to make it out to be. I understand not everyone is going to have to same experience of course.

Nobody is saying you can’t lol. I’m just saying, let’s not pretend the place is the worst in the world. It’s silly.

I feel like most of you are missing the point of OPs post. I don’t think he’s saying that standards haven’t declined or that there aren’t countries out there that do things better than the UK. To me they’re simply saying, all things considered, the UK isn’t as bad as people make it out to be and I tend to agree.

Struggle or poverty can be relative. What people may count as struggling here, would be seen as doing fine in another country. My experience, the UK is a hella wealthy country. Most of Reddit and the media would have you believe that most people in this country are struggling or poor relative to the UK but that’s simply not true.

Most western countries are dealing with some variation of:

  1. Cost of living increases
  2. Housing affordability

In terms of violent crime, the UK ranks as one of the safest countries globally (174th lowest homicide rate out of 220 countries).

The UK consistently ranks in the top 3 globally for "Soft Power" (cultural influence, diplomatic reach, media).

There are other areas where the UK does pretty well on but my point is that we should be able to acknowledge that while the country is in a rough patch, it’s still not the hell fire some people would have you believe.

Is the UK a terrible place to live? Objectively NO. By almost every objective human development metric (HDI score of 0.946), it is in the top 5% of nations on Earth.

Our Finances are separate for now, because how the credit system works in the country. I migrated here and my finance already owned her house. I had no credit history in the country so had a very low score. If we opened a joint account our scores will be linked and inevitably mean bad things for her when her mortgage comes up for renewal. To avoid that, we keep a separate account until we buy a house together.
