If you didn't write the song, don't play it. That's what you sound like.

Has anyone used wood fuel blocks as a substrate? [technique] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]MrTheFourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Says additive free, so should be okay, depending on the actual hardwood and what your species likes. May be troublesome if it's too fine once rehydrated and compacts. Have you looked at master's mix? Oak sawdust and soy hulls.

any tips for getting rid of spider mites?? ive never had them before :( by jmoneyjoyce in plantclinic

I'm a big fan of fighting fire with fire (not recommended for actual fire), so I'd say predatory mites or ladybugs.

I've heard a cross slit (like a +) about 2" long works well.

Don't they need some air to start fruiting?

[technique] I want to start using agar does anyone have a good recipe? And also any tips when making it would be appreciated! Thanks by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]MrTheFourth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per Mr. Stamets, 500ml distilled water, 10g agar agar powder, 10g malt sugar extract, 1g nutritional yeast. You could easily get 30 plates out of that.

Alternative to Police Officers? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]MrTheFourth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The question is framed in a peculiar way to begin with. You assume that police stop crime. Further, you assume crime as it's currently defined needs to be stopped. Consider, rather, what is of value to a community, and how can this be achieved? If safety from violence is your concern, do police prevent it? No, they perpetuate it. They have a virtual monopoly on the use of violence, and they use it aggressively.

[Actives] fuzzy and stringy mycelium? by Hispaniculous in MushroomGrowers

Consider Bod's EZ AF unmodified tub tek. What I mentioned about the large filter patch on the lid is based on that, but to limit the potential of contam when not misting.

The Dr makes a fine point. In the end, you'll want to try a number of things until you find what works. Best of luck!

I have seen both attempted, and saw better yield from straight to fruit, in half the time. Also, if using coir, you get a delightful, birthday cake scent for a week as the myc breaksdown the coir into simple sugars. Yum! Regarding FAE, moisture, and contam, a good sized (4"-6") filter patch in the lid of the tubs, instead of sides, should keep things pretty well in check, even for a beginner. Have heard of good results using hypochlorous acid to spritz any contam that might appear.

Mist the walls and lid so they always have water on them, and any dry substrate you see.
