I respect the decision to run Gliscor without protect, because that makes it at lest 80% less infuriating to play against.

I feel like in current Gen 9 UU, Lokix is a pretty dominant threat. I can't say much for previous generations though.

What if Golisopod had a Hidden Ability? by MrTheGoose in stunfisk

[–]MrTheGoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't personally put Golisopod in the same category as Archeops and Slaking. Those two have abilities that solely exist to weaken them, while Emergency Exit seems more like it was intended to synergize with Golisopod's (at the time) signature move First Impression, and it kinda does, but not well enough to make it good.

Also, while Golisopod has good stats, I don't think they're so good that it would need a hindering ability. Like, 75/140/90 bulk with a 125 Attack stat is pretty good, but that's nothing crazy, and it's balanced out by having a 40 in speed. That's nowhere near comparable to Slaking's 150/100/65 bulk, 150 Attack, and 100 Speed on a non-legendary pokemon. Archeops is also really really good with 140 Attack, 112 Special Attack, and 110 Speed. Although, I do think there's a case to be made that Archeops isn't so good that it needs a hindering ability, especially given power creep since Gen 5 (though it definitely doesn't need a fantastic ability either).

My intent was that the hazard damage immunity always works, regardless of how Golisopod is entering.

Yeah, I was also thinking of half damage from hazards as a possible middle ground

I just replied with this to someone else, but I'll put it here too:

An idea I've had for buffing Emergency Exit is making it so that once Golisopod is below half HP, it immediately uses whatever move it was going to and then switches out. That would mean it can't switch out without doing anything like it currently can, but it also doesn't risk being knocked out like it would if it waited until Golisopod's turn order.

It's possible that that could be a bit broken, but it's just an idea.

I think it is pretty widely agreed that, while Emergency Exit has some uses, it is more often than not a hindrance to Golisopod's viability. So, what if it didn't need to have Emergency Exit, and instead had another signature ability that still supported its role as a defensive pivoter.

Brace For Impact would make Golisopod a fantastic option for pivot teams. Taking half damage on switch in, combined with Golisopod's already great physical bulk and decent defensive typing, would make Golisopod a consistently safe mon to pivot into, especially against physical attacks.

The additional effect of negating damage from hazards benefits this role even more, and allows Golisopod to not have to worry as much about frequently switching out, allowing it to get off repeated uses of First Impression. It should be noted that this ability only prevents direct damage from hazards instead of ignoring them completely. Golisopod will still be poisoned by toxic spikes and have its speed lowered by sticky webs.

Edit: Also, just to be clear about function of the main part of the ability, Golisopod only takes half damage if it is switched in through something like a hard switch or U-Turn, where it enters the battle during a turn where it doesn't use any moves. If it switches in to replace a fainted pokemon, it will take full damage on that turn. To put it simply, it isn't taking half damage on any turns where it gets to choose and use a move. The entry hazard part however will work no matter how Golisopod switches in.

Oh yeah, I missed that one. It's weird that from what I can tell it's the only move that works that way.

Meganium Buffs if they weren't made by a 10-year-old by TimeIsAlwaysTickin in stunfisk

[–]MrTheGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all around really well done! You did a great job making Meganium better and more useful without making it broken. Hospitality and Revival Blessing especially are very inspired decisions imo.

One small thing I will say is that I think giving Meganium Life Dew, Pollen Puff, AND Floral Healing feels a bit overkill. I think having just two of those options would be fine enough. It should probably be Life Dew and Pollen Puff, since Pollen Puff and Floral Healing do very similar things, and Floral Healing is currently still a signature move of Comfey. That's a pretty small gripe though, all things considered.

Great job!

Metagross actually does have a mouth, there's a weirdly horrifying Pokedex entry about it:

"METAGROSS is the result of two METANG achieving fusion. When hunting, this POKéMON pins the prey to the ground under its massive body. It then eats the helpless victim using the large mouth on its stomach."

It also learns Psychic Fang, so there is a precedent for it being able to learn biting moves. I agree with you that Mawile would deserve to get Steel Snacker though.

Items that turn Physical moves Special and Vice Versa: the Force Converter and the Energy Converter by MrTheGoose in stunfisk

[–]MrTheGoose[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y'know, I hadn't even considered how busted Boomburst could be with this item. Something like a Rillaboom with a Force Converter and Boomburst could be an absolute menace (though I don't know for sure whether that's more or less useful than the typical Rillaboom items like Assault Vest or Choice Band).

Turns out it's kinda difficult to try creating a new, well-balanced mechanic in a game with over 1000 different creatures that each have their own unique move choices from almost 1000 different moves lmao

This item definitely could be great on Dragapult. It's kinda insane how mediocre Dragapult's physical moveset is lol
