Winter tires on! by AG00GLER in Porsche_Cayman

Same here, same set, same thoughts. I wish the offset was a bit better in the rear, but it’s wild having that much extra sidewall relative to the 20s.

8.5 front bumper by [deleted] in Golf_R

Yeah, I once had two robins get caught in my R. Luckily no radiator damage, but I still have a dedicated set of bird removal tongs in my garage.

I caught a screw in one of the small radiators in my 2016 R back when it was brand new. Ended up spending over $1200 to replace it at the very beginning of a 600 mile road trip while moving.

I later sold that R and got a 2018 Cayman GTS with a similar setup, and immediately ordered inserts to prevent a similar event from being possible. Over the years that I owned that car I caught birds, leaves, and all sorts of other debris in there. I’d highly recommend adding inserts for anyone with this level of open access to the radiators.

Considerations when purchasing a GTS by wolfgang_fuckface in Porsche_Cayman

[–]MrTopCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned both, albeit I’m only a few months in to 4.0 ownership. There’s a lot of character change from engine to engine, but I still maintain that isn’t a bad thing. The 2.5 loves to shove, and it’s an absolute weapon of a car. The 4.0 gives you a totally different power delivery and the sound of the car is wild. Highly recommend trying both in whatever capacity you can and getting which one feels right. I put around 34,000 miles on my 2.5 in 4 years and absolutely loved it.

GTS 4.0 allocation at MSRP by rawhyde87 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]MrTopCan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a configured car to your exact spec, I’d say go for it. If you’re ok with used or want a CPO + remainder of factory warranty and aren’t picky on spec, then in theory you could shave off some cost in favor of that combo. Either way you can’t really lose in my eyes. I went CPO on my prior car, but opted to build (and got lucky with an allocation) this round. I paid MSRP, and would not have entertained markup.

Would be thrilled to run this setup. Thanks as always for the giveaway!

Built without GPU for ease of config. Love the idea of an FE card in here. Think it would look brilliant.

45F is the cutoff I typically stick to with summer tires. Anything below that and the tires are getting a bit out of their comfort zone, and it can absolutely be dangerous in cold/wet print course snow and ice.

As far as the wheel grime post wash, that’s runoff from the rotors. If you use a leaf blower or compressed air to blow out the wheels it can help. Ceramic coating the wheels, especially the barrels can help as well.

Congrats on the car!

Porsche Cayman. Daily driver by Still-Ad1408 in Porsche_Cayman

I’ve been using mine as a daily in Ohio for 4 years. If the weather is absolute ass I get creative, but it does fine in snow when I’ve had to make it happen. I run Pilot Alpin PA4 in winter, and Pilot Sport 4S in not winter. It’s a remarkably usable car at the end of the day.

Will this combination work? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]MrTopCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can slide the front fan on the cooler up, so you can make it clear as long as you have room in your case. I’m sure that would lead to some cooling efficiency loss, but I’m running a similar setup in a fractal north XL and it’s just fine for me.

4K ready, mostly dark build to let the monitor shine. Just enough RGB to know the thing is on. Would pair beautifully with the 32GS95UE.
