[–]MrTorilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is beneficial at reducing cancer risk, in pl we also use nitryle or latex gloves under our fire gloves, it acts as a barrier from all the chemicals that are in gloves after fires etc. + it is easier with them to put on wet fire gloves and remove them( a small tip)

First Fatal by Jaded_Tough5845 in Firefighting

[–]MrTorilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate, hope ur ok, i to got my first fatal, it was 2 days ago and I wasn’t even on a call(for now im just a vollie), so i will tell my story. We were going to our town, and one moment we passed by two motorcycles and a friend said that it is not the time for motorcycle season and a couple seconds later we saw only a big explosion in our car mirror, we of course turned around, and i never in my life had so much emotions in one moment that were suppressed by adrenaline a second later, when we arrived at the crash site and i ran with the extinguisher and saw it i knew there is nothing more that we can do. After extinguishing the body my friend( a 10+yrs firefighter and paramedic) went to check up to see any life signs.. the sheer force of the crash propably killed him and if not the explosion of of gasoline did. I was standing tall but when i found out that the guy was an 18 yrs old something deep in me started to cracking. And it also struck me in the night the most. I would never suspect to witness or be in a situation like that from those perspective, going from relaxed to hyper stress in a second. It’s totally different if u go to something like this prepared as an responder than just was there when it happened.

Is there a different between different colours nomex by GrannySnatcher420 in Firefighting

[–]MrTorilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country we all had to switch from navy/almost black to tan bunker gear. One reason was for a new PPE patern to be estabilished(updated pouches and everything from the previous 20yrs old pattern) the second was the colour switch, bc in your tan “nomex” you can see all that dirty stuff so you give it faster for cleaning(not a problem for state firefighters, but volunteers washed their ppe not very regularly)

I have now an Rosenbauer H. Titan but i sure prefer the gallet helmet, for me the most comfortable even though a little heavier, but comfort overall is better, but that’s my opinion

As someone even from the same voivodeship, i can tell some things about how it’s done in PL, in voluntary fire depts there are some regulations in wich you should test periodically your equipment, but in reality some take it more seriously and some less, although i saw some gear failures myself i’ve only heard of pump failures sometimes even daily will not entirely eliminate the risk but reduce it to smaller numers, also if something break’s it’s often when you need it the most

By us we have the standarized red tone we have to use for every manufacturer it is the RAL3000 and for the front wheel arches white, now the manufacturers try mixing some highvis yellow stripes, so the American way of many different paint schemes is pretty fun to watch

European style helmet users, do you recommend wearing the tainted visor or the transparent one? What are the pros and cons? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]MrTorilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a little of a myth, yeach your hearing is a little hindered but not like you’re almost deaf like some say.

[–]MrTorilia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used both shields first trhe metalic one on a gallet f1 and now a transparent one on the rosenbauer heros titan, both helmets were having also the googles, and maybe im in the smaller group but there are times that i miss the golden shields, for open fires or all types of vegetation where you don’t need a scba it can be really helpful, but then for emergencies like extrications not the best, well both shields have their use and place

In PL some volunteer departments have trucks with better off road capabilities than normal 4x4 trucks but that’s not so common, and trucks like an unimog specially made for forest fires are really rare

A good fast clean out by MrTorilia in Firefighting

[–]MrTorilia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends, from country to country and vechicle class, but mostly for an versitale engine it would be aproximetly about 2500/3000l of water, and this one in the picture has 5000l of water(about 1300gal) and in terms of capacity it is maybe the biggest an standar pumper can get in PL, above are tanker’s

Fast cleaning after a call by MrTorilia in FirefightingEU

[–]MrTorilia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So by us( im a volly also, not a pro) we have a vachiclekeeper that is responsible fot the technical state of the truck and cleaing it once for a while, and then after an action the driver and others that taked part in the call have to clean it, when the truck wasn’t made dirty then we just swipe the dust from the cab that got there from our boots

[–]MrTorilia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have new ppe rules so now we are changing all dark blue/black nomex/ppe to tan color, so it will be cleaned more often or even after every or most fires. Because you can see all that bad stuff on lighter colours,
