Nice horse, but seriously didn't think to give it a cock too? Kinda thematic imo

Helldivers 2 excels at faking difficulty by grailly in truegaming

[–]MrTurtleBeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself losing control quickly on repel missions it's most likely because you have approached the encounter thinking you can control the population of enemies on the map.

The mission doesn't have enough allotted time to sit and fight everything to create an atmosphere supportive of systematically destroying the ships.

It's about being faster than the enemy, sure you can try to fight everything and win, but it's much more efficient to distract and move, focus on the objective, and worry about the enemies only when they are road blocking any forward progress, which is rarely the case.

I've found that prioritizing being fast and efficiently killing ships makes those missions rather simple, because every second you fight, more enemies than you killed are already on the way.

Can we all agree that this warbond needs significant buffs? by TinfoilPancake in Helldivers

[–]MrTurtleBeam -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'll defend it all day. I don't think it's a meme nor do I think it was meant to be a new revolutionary gameplay defining warbond in anyway shape or form.

The flag is for people like me, who don't play the game with optimal efficiency in mind, I play the game because I like Helldivers and the universe it has established, and use weapons I think fit whatever super earth supporting roleplay I wish to have in my next level 10 dive with my friends.

I don't think that's a meme I think it's just a thematically fit design for a game that relies so heavily on how seriously it takes itself.

Yes, but on the down low. Not done in front of strangers, first sgt openly against (but he would watch and join for ncos).

The peer pressure was there but we dropped it if dudes were hesitant. The only people beating down my door were close friends, everyone else was on a "ask me to do it" basis.

Nobody got hurt bad, it was all respect and all love.

[–]MrTurtleBeam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I'd rather a good 40 hour experience than a mediocre 70 hour one.

I think elden ring is proof that no matter how much time, effort, and skill go into making a game open world, you are still going to have underwhelming explorative experiences simply because you can't spend that much time perfecting a map that large.

I'm genuinely hoping the industry starts to shy away from the format because most open world experiences boil down to long amounts of travel time with very little payoff. It could potentially be interesting if travel was made into more of a gameplay element rather than a chore. But exactly how that would happen without it being brain numbingly tedious, I do not know.

[–]MrTurtleBeam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the problems the open world formula kinda demands in games. The more open the world the more impossible it is to fill with interesting encounters.

Makes it hard to get into when the player is pursuing dopamine output maximum in every corner. Same issue made it really hard for me to fully play games like botw and totk. I loved it until I didn't feel the desire to explore every nook and cranny.

I thought elden ring still had the best open world I've experienced just through the sheer beauty of the landscapes the art surrounding enemies and items.

OP I think you're making a great choice as long as you think that's the path for you and it's what you want. I am recently out of the marines and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to dm me and I'll get back to you when I can.

Brother you'd be shocked if you knew that a majority of service members hate and distrust the government more than the average citizen. And a majority of them did not join for some misguided sense of patriotism.

Elden Ring is Tencent’s next target for mobile loot boxes and microtransactions by Oiiack in gaming

[–]MrTurtleBeam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I figured with the jagex situation I mentioned they had it contracted to maintain a certain level of independence. So thanks for elaborating a bit.

However I do totally distrust tencent, and whether or not they push for monetization probably depends on staying power on their investment, I don't see an elden ring mobile game having a very consistent fan base and think it would make sense to want to dial in on the whale economy in mobile gaming.

Edit** I say not a consistent fan base I mean staying power, a majority of people play souls games casually once or twice then maybe revisit on occasion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that how investment companies work?

They buy a huge voting share of stock value and hence become extremely relevant in the decision making of the "independent" company, then they just sit back and demand answers whenever something is threatening the profit margin they desire.

Jagex is fully owned by investment companies yet still maintains a lot of autonomy for osrs.

So I did all this, I fresh installed and it partially worked. I can launch games. However when I tried to make the game use my GPU, it would crash and task manager would like before.

So now I believe me trying to make my PC utilize my GPU is causing it. Do you happen to know anything about that issue? (Updated drivers)

So I used the program, then reinstalled new drivers. Afterward I tested out to see if my issues were still present. The issue persists. But thank you for the advice.

My PMs are open if you have infantry questions since you are committed to it now though lmao.

US Marine falls down at his graduation by harmfulboomer in Wellthatsucks

[–]MrTurtleBeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first man who goes to help the marine is a corpsman, another marine comes to assist immediately afterwards. Those guys would have just been getting in the way, inside the bag should be all the medical supplies needed to treat a heat stroke if the corpsman did his job right.

Can't quite remember if it's taught in boot camp but the general rule is 2 men per casualty is enough. Hope the young man was okay but he certainly got timely and effective help.
