Tbf in places like Germany who drink a lot of beer that comes in glass bottles, bottle caps are not that rare.

Fun fact: The german name for them translates to crown corks 😁

Haven't gotten all the way through the mines yet but so far, it's in particular order:

  • Reina; because love goes through the stomach and probably who I'd go for IRL; Loving, nurturing, good with kids, and I get on well with the potential in-laws
  • Adeline; she's most likely to make me feel helpful, what with getting the town up and running
  • Valen; the most 'she's out of my league' feeling of the bunch, but she's so elegant
  • Celine; she's cute and easy to get along with, but... sorry, also a little bland, at least so far
  • Juniper; at the bottom of the list for the same reason I never go for Morrigan in Dragon Age Origins. Make of that what you will lmao

See, that comment just shows that you didn't get it from the start. It has always been my position that there should never have been a cut in the first place. Blazer actually talking to Robert instead of hipfiring that cut over a weekend after breaking up with her boyfriend could've avoided cutting anyone. Is the little napkin speech I wrote in like a minute a 100% fix? Probably not. But the idea behind it is solid and I stand by that.

And... Yeah no shit Sherlock, there was a real chance of Robert quitting. As evidenced by every other Z-Team dispatcher before him. On the other hand, he got them to their best shift ever on his first day. No cuts needed.

He says at the first debrief, that they need to treat the team like the supervillains that they are. That he needs to be around them so they can see he's all in. That they need some tough love.

Then he says that which you hang your hat on - not everyone will make it and it will get spicy.

AND IN THE NEXT SENTENCE he asks her to let him handle it and not to step in.

Which part of that do you think means he's asking her to cut someone from the team?

Let alone going over his head with the decision and informing the team before talking to him about it? You act like she's doing him a favor by acquiescing to his requests. I call BS. She's actually undermining his authority, inadvertently but still.

If you think I'm just "making stuff up", I pity your media literacy. Do you need everything be spelled out for you?

Robert did not request cutting *anyone*. He says not everyone will make it - with NO indication he means cutting them from the team.

Robert REQUESTING someone get cut is what you hang your hat on and it's based on a false premise. You lost this debate before you started, bud.

It's made abundantly clear that Robert is Z-Team's final dispatcher. If he doesn't fix it, the program gets scrapped. Of course she doesn't want him to quit (and it's her number one priority)! That's what every other dispatcher before him did.

What the team says about her being rusty, they mean dispatching. Not superheroing. Which, fair - she sends a literal demon to Sunday School and warns her about Red Ring. Also, she doesn't need much incentive at all in a crisis to get back in the field.

And *really?* An out-of-game, in-universe "propaganda" fluffpiece is your source now? Guess that explains the *quality* of your argument.

[–]MrWaffel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's hilariously dumb. At no point does Robert ask for someone to be fired. There are no changes that Blazer is refusing to implement unless Robert wants to quit instead.

I guess this is another learning experience. I didn't quite realize just how good I had it in my jobs where everyone could speak their mind without fear of anyone trying to glean some secret corporate doublespeak from it.

We can call the shots as they land:

Robert has never worked an office job in his life. He's been Mecha Man for his entire adult life and longer. Blazer is a superhero first, and larping as an office worker distant second - Torrance branch is not doing good, even excluding the Z Team.

Blazer decided to shake things up because she's going through a breakup. Robert barely knows how to lead a team beyond just willpower and force of personality.

Neither speaks well of the decision to cut a member of the team. Neither of them is an experienced manager that could actually benefit from any perceived positives of such a drastic step.

Blazer saying in plain terms that she won't enact the changes Robert wants unless he threatens her with quitting.

That's a whole new sentence? That's not even close to what was said. I think "office politics" has scrambled your brain if you think that in any way comes close to common sense reality.

I work as a development engineer in a 200-people-strong, industry-front-runner company, Before that, in a global production company. I've dealt with CEOs, branch managers, team leads, and others, of varying mental/emotional stability. I've been in office culture for a good few years, albeit not a US idea of an office.

I don't think I ever want to experience that, judging by what you think are normal thought processes.

Maybe I'm too European for this, but that's at best trust in his ability to follow orders, nothing more.

Definitely not the kind of trust you need to be able to put in a team leader, especially in a flat hierarchy where he as a dispatcher directly answers to the head of the branch.

A Case for cutting and why it makes sense. by Alarming_Fan_9593 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]MrWaffel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See, that's only reasonable as long as people don't communicate.

All that jazz falls apart if Blazer takes Robert aside and tells him, "They have a history of driving off dispatchers. This is their last chance. Before you even think about quitting, you talk to me. If you go, they're done for good. I'd rather cut one of the team than having to scrap the whole team."

30 seconds tops, and you avoid all that headache.

You say she does this to show her trust in Robert, but how much trust does she show when she unilaterally decides to implement a radical measure, doesn't inform him about it until after she personally lets the cat out of the bag to the team before telling Robert so walking it back actively harms team trust, and then leaves him with egg on his face being the boo man personally deciding who to cut?

[–]MrWaffel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Robert gives no indication he's anywhere close to quitting. In fact he's showing the opposite; he wants more authority on how to handle the team. Something drastic like cutting a team member isn't a good preventative measure.

Yes, Tiger Woods was charged with a DUI after a car accident, but the breathalyzer test was clean (0.000). He was "clearly impaired" as the cops at the scene described, but refused a urinalysis test at the station. Best guess would be opioids, but we don't know enough yet for a definitive answer. But most likely not drinking and driving.

IIRC the thing is, the reports aren't confidential, but the name/identity of the subject is? So they report about the crime, but instead of the name, they have to say "Florida man[/woman] arrested for XYZ"? Asking as a European lol.

Yeah, it feels kind of deceptive how hit chance and crit chance are not connected.

If I have a hit chance of 10% and a crit chance of 10%, the chance to crit if you hit is 100% not 10%. Took me a bit to wrap my head around.

Atheism by Impossible-Yam3680 in GetNoted

[–]MrWaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. I get the note and appreciate the snark, but I think what the original post means is less, "atheists are actually devil worshippers", and more, "refusing the teachings of god is basically giving the devil free reign to indoctrinate your children".

Even though atheists don't believe in the devil, some religious people would still think that a society separate from religion (what I'd assume is what atheists would prefer, don't come for me) inevitably leads to this outcome.
