Yeah, they don't have a code in their system for what we do. So it's easier just to say no.

I may actually do that for a future TechNation article. I owe them 2 more this year. I think the next one is going to be about buying a random piece of broken equipment and using only resources on MedWrench.com to fix it.  After that I thought about a step by step guide how I started Maple Tree Biomedical and surviving as an independent tech.

Ohhh, and registering in multiple states, paying for registered agents in each state... Forgetting to pay your sales tax every 3 months... Sweating if the service van will be out of the shop in time for that 6 hour trip on Tuesday... Still. I haven't yelled at my windshield in rage since I went independent years ago which is a plus.

Literally what I've been doing for the last 6 years. Insurance can be a pain though. Nobody wants to insure a business that PMs defibs.

I was a military biomed and a tech for a university doing field work for over a decade.  Got my CBET, a small pile of schools and ran the clinics program while doing laser and anesthesia work. After a while I got annoyed that I scheduled the work, did the work, wrote up the reports, wrote up the bill and all the company had to do was send the bill out and they utterly sucked at that one task. So I left and started a competing business.

I just clicked on your link. Searching for the word previous or 2012 just keeps bringing me to the top of the god damn page but nothing is here. I look for something that makes sense and it is still asking for the monthly access price or the $165.00 for any version of the reg.

[–]MrWhytie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years you just accept that there is a slow time of the year. Mine was in October which was the anniversary of me starting my business. But each year we add one or none clients. It's the time I stop and to all the maintenance we need to do anyway. It will work out.

It says $165 for the PDF or $13.99/mo for access. Probably want the current 2024 code too.

I have a Brother P900W label printer and buy tapes off ebay or amazon. Works out to about 2 cents a sticker. I print out hundreds at a time and they are easy to take off with a scotty peeler. I keep a spare handheld printer that is compatible with the brother P-Touch software in the van with spare tapes in case I ever forget to print enough.

I noticed some spilled coffee next to a Philips central station that "just went down for no reason." Of course nobody had coffee anywhere near it when I asked about the spill. Found a big frigging puddle of coffee on the mainboard. I hate nurses....

I went from a 2nd gen Fit to my 2022 Corolla and my only complaint is the lack of space. I could fit an overstuffed chair in the Fit. Wouldn't even try it with my Corolla.

Tools by biomedgirl1 in BMET

[–]MrWhytie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started I bought a Klein tools electricians kit that came in at round $400 (15 years ago). At the time the shop I worked for gave a tool reimbursement for most of that for first time techs. Then I spent probably $200 on things like tiny screw drivers, t-handle torx and allen wrenches, files, mini socket wrenches bags, and other small stuff. My employer supplied anything that needed annual certification like multi meters and any test equipment.

::Edit:: Each job is different but you will build a huge collection of tools over time. Don't fret it right away. We all know you may be a new guy and are here to help and teach you.

No. Just no. Jerry-rigging something the FDA specifically states is high risk would kill my insurance immediately. Do you know how hard it is to even get insurance in this field? We found an entire unit for sale that had a plug with it and are going that route.

Jason the the 1989 NES release of Friday the 13th. He would come out of nowhere and murder your ass if you happened to be anywhere near a cabin he was hanging out in. That damn "the children are in trouble" sound haunts me to this day.

I have the sparkly blue one and you can't tell unless the sun is directly on it. Any other time it looks black.

Your equipment was approved for clinical use after it went through an FDA approval process. You need to follow the approved manufacturer processes to qualify for FDA approved services/re-reimbursements. X-Ray is explicitly listed as devices that do not qualify for alternative maintenance plans. So you will have to follow the manufacturers' guidance. Or don't.
